Herbology Lesson 2 - Treasure Hunt (years 1 - 7)

Tightening the scarf on her neck, Estelle went down to the greenhouses. After waiting a while, she didn't see anyone turn up for class. As she was waiting, she heard students murmur that she didn't read notices and it was down at the forest. Shifting uncomfortably, Estelle ran for the forest. The forest wasn't exactly hard to miss since it was on ground level. Her feet crunched underneath the snow and the coldness hit her cheeks. She could see her breath in puffs while she ran.

Seeing students piling up near a teacher, she assumed it was her class. She slowed down her pace and peered behind a tree, doubling checking she was in the right class. Shoving her hands in her pocket, she bowed her head down and joined the group, holding up at the back. Shivering slightly, she scuffed her boot on the ground, causing snow to flick up onto her black stockings.

Just as she was handing out roses, two more boys walked towards the clearing both from her own brood, making the witch smile wistfully to herself. "Hi Callum, Jax, here have a rose," she greeted them cheerily, handing the first a white rose and the latter a bright pink one. "Feel free to look for your teams, they're the ones with the same coloured rose as yours."

No sooner had she turned from them then little Gillian came into view, cold and likely a little uncomfortable. "Hi sweetie, here you go, a white rose for you," Azalea said, handing the flower to the little witch.

A Belladonna boy caught her attention then, he seemed to want to go unnoticed, perhaps that was why he was behind all the other students milling about. "Hello Mr. Laffayette," the brunette called out, passing him a blue rose. "Welcome to Herbology."

the little girl who turned after him also received a smile, along with a snow white rose. "Welcome to Herbology Miss Lovelace. Feel free to look for your teammates, they also have white roses."

Gillian received the rose from prof. Harrington with a small smile and a soft "thank you". She turned the flower in her hands looking for thorns; the girl didn't really get what all the fuss about roses was, they had thorns and weren't even that pretty, in her opinion, roses were some really pretentious flowers, but it was ok, is not like they were going to start growing roses if her guess was right.

Looking around for other people with white roses, Gillian spotted a boy from her house, Callum was his name if she remembered right; she walked towards him with, and with a small smile, waved at him with her rose, "hey" she said, and stood slightly awkwardly next to him, not really knowing what to say next. She wasn't that good with starting conversations, but once she felt confident about talking with someone, Gillian could talk about almost anything. Hopefully, this wouldn't be a bad move on her part, cause the boy seemed pretty cool.

Henley was handed a red rose and she put it on her uniform. She had no idea where to find the other red roses. The Nightshade was too annoyed with this assignment already and eventually just stood off to the side. When people from her team had to become a group that is when she would have to join them but for now Henley was staying to herself.

Upon seeing the students begin to mingle, Azalea decided the time to start the lesson was ripe. Any latecomers would join them as they came in.

Walking toward the center of the groups, Azalea closed her eyes a moment in concentration, making the small patch of ground she stood on rise slowly beneath her feet until it was about a foot and half higher than its original level, making an irregular stand of sorts from where she could address the class.

"Alright everyone, we're almost ready to begin. All of you should be in teams of threes or fours by now so please pay attention." The witch's gaze swept over the gathered students. "Today's task is a treasure hunt of sorts but before we begin, here are the ground rules. Firstly, no venturing too far in the forest, and I will know if you do. Upperclassmen, watch out for the younger ones on your team, though I'm sure I don't need to tell you this."

The girl paused, ensuring she had everyone's attention as she spoke. "You will be known by your color, as in, Team Red, Team Pink, Team Yellow and so on. You will each be given a different route by myself along with your first clue. Your goal is to solve the first clue to get to the second and the second to get to the third and the prize. Additionally, the team that reaches their prize first gets another gift because they would have displayed both intelligence, determination and teamwork. Keep in mind that all your teammates need to reach the end of the hunt unscathed. Meaning if only two out of the four of you reach the end, it doesn't count."

When the witch was sure she had everyone's attention, she spoke once more.

"So without further ado..." The Herbologist's eyes fluttered closed, only to open a second later as dried leaves rearranged themselves on the ground into arrows, pointing the way for each team.
