Lucas was ready for a new school year, he had his classes set up and was waiting. This class was going to be an interesting one, the younger years always seemed more ready to learn. It was his first class of the day, he had cauldrons set up and ingredients ready. On the board in his eloquent writing he had Alchemic Accidents. Causes and Effects . Lucas sat down and waited for his class to begin.

Carmen wanted to try this year Alchemy lesson. She has never attented in that class. She soon walked in and realized she was first student in the class. She sighed. "Hello, professor," she said it with emotsionless face. She didn't show nkw very much emotions. She couldn't smile right now and she didn't want to look sad always too. She had lost few weeks ago her grandma, who was like mother to her and also only parental figure in her life. Girl sat down some wher middlw of classroom and waited now others. She tried not to think about her grandma.

Alchemy! Only the older years were allowed to take Alchemy at Beauxbatons and she's always looked forward to that and when she saw she could take it at Hogwarts, it was the first class she signed up for. It sounded so exciting and so much better than Potions, where you just mixed things together and hoped for the best.

She couldn't wait for the lesson the whole day and when the time finally came, she found the classroom quickly, as she had scouted for it the day before. Walking in, she saw another Ravenclaw - the one she followed to find DADA classroom, and the Professor. "Bonjour!" she smiled brightly at both and then grinned excitedly when she saw what it said on the blackboard. Accidents! That was the interesting part of anything, really. She took a seat, practically vibrating from excitement and had to tell herself do calm down.

Lucas watched as the first two students walked in, "Hello Miss Carmen," he replied to the first Ravenclaw. Watching as she sat down, he smiled. A new Ravenclaw walked in, smiling and looking overall bright and happy.

Bonjour! came the greeting from the new Ravenclaw, "Ah Bonjour Mademoiselle, I take it you are the transfer student from Beauxbatons ?" he enquired, knowing only a little French. Thana, his adopted sister had known it fluently, however that came from being Bilingual for her. "Do either of you know anything about Accidents in Alchemy?" he asked the two girls.

Alchemy was an alright class, and Violet certainly achieved great marks at it. So naturally, she would attend. She walked to the class calmly, and saw that two other Ravenclaw girls were already there. She took her usual seat, without acknowledgement of either of them and slid her textbook out from her bag, flipping to the chapter of Alchemic Accidents, and skimming over it with little interest.

Natasha really enjoyed Alchemy, so she was happy to see it on her timetable. She made her way eagerly to the classroom and saw two Ravenclaws and a Hufflepuff already there. She walked to her seat, and upon seeing what was on the board already, she flipped open her book to the chapter specified, assuming this lesson was more of a safety-sort of class. "Professor," she smiled warmly.

Victoria skipped through the halls with the hastily drawn map she'd acquired in the dorm rooms in front of her. Being new in the school was difficult to say the least, harder still when you had absolutely no idea which way the map was supposed to be facing when you held it. Eventually though, Victoria had found her way to the class she was trying to find.

Pushing open the door, Victoria looked around to see the class hadn't yet started - something she was highly thankful for to say the least. Moving to the seat at the front - something she would never give up if her life depended on it - Victoria took out her books. "Good morning, professor!" The witch acknowledged with a warm smile. She wondered for a moment if she needed to introduce herself with her transfer, but the newly sorted Hufflepuff decided not to draw attention to herself, the accent was surely going to do that enough already.

Running late was always nerve racking, but when it was for a favourite teacher's class it was just more awkward than anything. Louise could hear voices in the classroom before she saw the few people already inside. She slipped in and took a seat near the back hoping she'd go unnoticed for the moment, she could say her hello's later once everyone had left the room.

At the greetings from everyone, Lucas smiled. "Welcome back class, and to those of you who haven't attended before, my name is Professor Faowind. I am your Alchemy teacher, and I promise to try make each lesson as entertaining as possible while still actually teaching. Now today I want to discuss the dangers of Alchemy, and the accidents that happen. Has anyone here ever had an accident from making a potion or adding the wrong ingredient to an elixir ?" Lucas asked the class, wanting to know if anyone had experience in the area that they were discussing.

When the class started, Victoria noted their professor's name at the top of her notepad so that she wouldn't forget it. Not that she believed she would, but it was a reference point just in case. New schools were always a daunting aspect like that.

However, the first question of the day was to do with potions, and the accidents in potions. Victoria had never had a problem in potions, it was one of her best subjects. So she only shook her head at the question of accidents. She knew many people had accidents in the subject, something she couldn't quite comprehend, given the fact you simply followed instructions. So the witch simply waited for someone to agree with the statement so that they could move on.

Natasha listened as the Professor inquired about if they had ever had any accidents. She supposed that the lesson would be for what to do if something went terribly wrong. It would be a useful lesson. "A few times," she spoke up "Most of the time I just start again, I never have brewed anything particularly dangerous," she said. She was too young to do anything bad enough that would warrant a burn or serious injury.

Kedzie was once again late for her next class, she didn't know what was up with her luck in classroom attendance but she needed to step up her game before she got into some serious trouble with the Headmaster who frightened her a little bit. She walked into the classroom and saw that the Professor had once again began his class. "I apologize for being late sir" she said as she took a seat at a desk.

"Ah Bonjour Mademoiselle, I take it you are the transfer student from Beauxbatons ?"

Bea grinned brightly and nodded. "Yes, sir." she replied. "I'm still used to talking French all the time, so I apologize."

More people came in the classroom and the Professor started the class. Beatrice wrote the question in her notebook with enthusiasm and jotted down the answer from what looked like a fellow Ravenclaw. She raised her hand and waited for the Professor to motion at her.

"I've had many accidents." she told the class happily. "We didn't have Alchemy at Beauxbatons, but I was rubbish at Potions. Things always blew up or were close to exploding. One time, there was rainbow coloured foam just flowing out of my cauldron." Bea said and refrained from saying that it was her way of coming out. It was a great day.

"Has anyone here ever had an accident from making a potion or adding the wrong ingredient to an elixir?"

"Nope, nothing too serious," Violet answered, with a visible roll of her eyes "As long as you're not careless, and you pay attention, and you're intelligent enough to read, elixirs and potions and crap are easy to do. If you have a mere slip of the hand and add too much of something to a mixture, counteract it by adding more of the other ingredients, as if you're just making a larger quantity." she shrugged. That method had always seemed to work for her, if she was quick enough levelling out the ingredients.

Lucas listened as everyone gave their answers, some were yes and some were no. Some people had been injured, and some hadn't. "To the people that have had accidents, what happened? What potion were you attempting if you can remember it. " he asked, then felt ready to give his announcement.
"Now I have an announcement to make, so please listen up. In the next few weeks there shall be an extra lecture , with guest speaker Aurora Dourse. All students are invited, and I would recommend taking this extra opportunity especially if you are interested in the healing area." he announced to his class. Leaning against his desk, "If there are any questions I open the classroom to them." Lucas finished, waiting for his students to ask questions if they had any.

Louise was only half listening and half feeling guilty for not paying full attention. However her ears pricked up at the mention of healing and extra lectures from a guest speaker. With her attention now focused she started coming up with a few questions she wanted to ask, making a note of them in her notebook so she could ask after class, not really feeling up to talking in front of anyone else right now.

Kedzie listened to what her Professor was telling the class and thought that it sounded pretty interesting to her and she would gladly like to see this. She raised her hand before she spoke to her Professor. "I have a question, would this guest speaker be talking here like in this particular classroom or somewhere else?" She asked in complete wonder.

I have a question, would this guest speaker be talking here like in this particular classroom or somewhere else?"

Lucas looked over at the girl who asked, smiling broadly. " A very good question and yes, Miss Kedzie it will be held here in the Alchemy classroom. However we will try make it more relaxed, I do suggest bringing something to take notes with. Any form is fine." He told the class and smiling at Kedzie. " Does anyone else have any questions? If not I would like to ask you all to read chapter three of your books and I would like a short essay on common accidents within Alchemy." He asked the class. Waiting to see if anyone else had any questions.

Common Accidents in Alchemy

In Alchemy it is most likely that accidents will arise from not following instructions carefully when making the potions for the class. It is therefore suggested that only skilled potioneers take the subject to avoid many - if not all - accidents in regards to the potions.

Also, it is always crucial to label mixtures that are made. It has been found that many accidents occur because students use the wrong ingredients from lack of labels. This is, of course, a very easy point that can be rectified if the person is careful.

As there are a lot of chemicals in alchemy, it can be said many accidents are due to not wearing the right safety equipment. Gloves and goggles are amongst the main items neglected in experiments which has led to people losing hands, and eyes during experiments because they weren't using them properly.

There are, of course, many accidents in Alchemy, like all subjects, so they're not limited to the above.

~ Victoria Newbury

Standing up, Victoria took her essay to the professor and handed it in, moving back to her desk and waiting for further instructions.
