Lucas was ready for a new school year, he had his classes set up and was waiting. This class was going to be an interesting one, the older years were different to the younger ones. They seemed more interested in doing practical experiments he had noticed.

It was his last class of the day, he had cauldrons set up and ingredients ready. On the board in his eloquent writing he had Alchemic Accidents. Causes and Effects . Lucas sat down and waited for his class to begin. Out the front he had a small glass vial filled with a golden liquid.

Sage walked into the Alchemy classroom. He wasn't surprised that he was the first one there. Sage likes being early to everything. "Hello Professor." He said and walked over to the right side of the room. Sage noticed a small glass vial filled with a golden liquid. He wanted to ask what it was but he decided against that. He didn't want to be seen as a teachers pet. So he remained silent at least for a moment. "How was your summer?" Sage asked to be polite.

Tess avoided this class for the past year, simply because it conflicted with her study time. But her last year meant making some sacrifices and soon enough she cleared her schedule to add the class. Pushing the door open, she noticed that there was the same hufflepuff as before. Sitting near the front, she sat patiently waiting for the class to begin. Her eyes caught the title of the subject, and her interest rose, wondering how exactly they would be practicing alchemy today.

Lucas watched as a few students came in, when one asked about his summer he smiled. "My summer was quite entertaining, how was yours?" he replied to the Hufflepuff, before smiling at Tess as she walked in. "Glad you could make it Ms Holmes" he said to her, watching as they both looked interested at the vial of golden liquid. "Do either of you know what might it be?" he asked the two of them.

Lucas sighed inwardly to himself, so far it wasn't a very big class. Hopefully it would get bigger, if not at least he had a few students. Normally his adopted sister would of been here, in fact he already missed her. He missed seeing her at the Ravenclaw breakfast for table, he missed seeing her face around school and being the quiet one in his class, and missed having her help with the infirmary. He didn't let it show however, it had been her choice and one he had to respect. He only hoped that eventually she would start speaking to him again.

"Nothing really happened during summer for me Sir." Sage said and smiled. "My 10 year old brother was really upset about not being able to come with me though." Sage said. He looked at the golden liquid. Maybe it was liquid luck? He didn't know for sure but it was worth a shot. "Is the liquid Felix Felicis?" Sage asked and hoped he was right. Otherwise he'd be embarrassed.

Cassidy rushed down the hall, bag dragging on the ground behind her, and red hair flying behind her. She was running late, of course. It was typical her to either be too early, or too late. She reached the door to the classroom, panting as she walked in, trying to look composed "Sorry I'm late, Professor" she said after a Hufflepuff boy took a guess at what was in the vial, walking quickly to take her seat.

"Is the liquid Felix Felicis?"
Lucas was about to enter when a rather out of breath Gryffindor came in,  gashing about how she was sorry she was late.
"Its alright Miss Cassidy, please try not to make it a habit" he replied before returning his attention to the class. "A good guess Mr Fawn, however incorrect. This is known as the BloodBerry  Potion, a very painful potion to the inhaler . However if made incorrectly, it can also be lethal to the witches and wizards that try make it.

Normally this potion is hardly adressed, however I think it is one that all aspiring Alchemists should be aware of, I won't be teaching you how to make it. However I can teach you to look for the signs of people that have tried to make it and have been injured from it and hopefully teach you how to combat it. Please go to page 63 in your textbooks, we will discuss it further from there. " Lucas explained to the class and stood back waiting for them to open their books.

Lucy was incredibly late, completely late. And she'd never been so late before, but she'd over slept. She sprinted through the empty corridors, almost passing the classroom she was meant to enter. She walked in and took the seat closest to the back to try and not draw so much attention to herself "Sorry Professor, prefect duties," she addressed him. She pulled out her textbook and hastily flipped to the page specified.

Slipping in to the back of the Alchemy class, Gina just about managed to keep in a groan at the sight of the class who were already here. Nobody she really knew, which meant the witch moved to the back and kept herself to being insignificant, as always.

Perhaps she could go back to thinking about what trouble she was going to get in later that day. Anything was more interesting than this class. Whatever the professor was talking about was beyond the witch, but she did hear the notion to open their books to page sixty three and the witch obliged willingly, though she didn't read.

Alchemy had never been one of Josh's favourite classes, in fact, he really didn't like it. But like he did with all classes, Josh took them merely for the fun of it. He could watch people in lessons, and collect information. He'd learnt almost all of the curriculum so many years ago in his private studies in the summer that school was useless, but until he'd graduated he had to endure.

Slipping in to the classroom, Josh took up his usual position in the middle of the room, not bothering to acknowledge anyone as he sat down. If he was late, he didn't much care, though it didn't look like the class had started. Opening his book to the page that everyone seemed to be turning to, Josh simply read the words he'd already been over and waited for something to actually start happening.

This classroom certainly had a different pace than others. For one thing actually opening up the textbook in class. She was used to more hands on learning, but nonetheless did as told, opening the book and rereading the passage she had read the night prior. She tended to take her classes as if an exam could come at any moment, and today it seemed she had wasted her time. Still, she waited patiently hoping this professor would have something up his sleeve.

Lucas watched as a few latecomers came in, he nodded softly to each of them. "Very well, now it is historically been written that BloodBerry Potion is identifiable by its golden yellow colour and the smell of roses it sends off. Historically, it was used by witches out of jealousy.
Now the affects of this vary from creature to creature, and depending on the amount also depends on how long the person has to live.
It only requires three drops to be lethal, and if it gets into the bloodstream it almost always kills. The most common ways of poisoning by this is ingestion." Lucas explained, carefully removing the Vial and pulling out a raw steak he had taken from the kitchens onto the bench.

Slowly he pulled off the lid of the vial and poured a few drops onto the steak, allowing the class to see the results. Almost instantly the steak sizzled and started disintegrating. "Now on your desks there is a weakened form of the BloodBerry Potion, and some meat. Once again please be careful. We DO NOT want any accidents, so please use the safety equipment. Please partner up, I want you to observe closely what happens, you can put your textbooks away now. Write down the different ways and options you think you would be able to combat the BloodBerry potion" he instructed the class, giving the class the opportunity to see the potion in action for themselves.

Gina was only listening half-heartedly to the lesson, well, she was until she heard that this stuff they were using had the potential to kill. That interested the Hufflepuff slightly. Not that she wished to kill anyone, no, she just found dangerous things much more her style.

When they were asked to partner up, however, Gina realised that for her six years at Hogwarts she didn't have any friends. With a small sigh of frustration, the witch looked around the room. Why couldn't they just work on their own? It's not like this was difficult. Spotting a pretty looking witch, Gina stood from her desk and slipped in to the seat beside none other than the Head Girl.

"Would you mind working with me?" The Hufflepuff asked, ready to move away again if the girl said no.

Josh had listened to the explanation but not really found any excitement in it. Things disintegrating was normal in his mother's line of work, and he'd been brought up around it for many years. Therefore, when the meat disintegrated before them, Josh hadn't reacted like most people might have.

When they were told to pair up, despite this experiment definitely not needing a partner, Josh looked around the room. He noted Tess already had a partner, so that took out that option. But then his eyes fell on the red hair of a very familiar face. Standing from his seat, Josh moved across the room and slipped in to the seat beside Cassidy.

"Young." He acknowledged, never asking if they could work together, because the Gryffindor had never said no before, and he doubted she would start now. "Do you want to do the physicality's of the experiment, I'll write the notes?" He offered. Josh didn't wait though, pulling her notepad towards him and stealing her pen as he got to work.

The dangers of this lesson would be definitely interesting, that is if they were practicing more than theory. But for now it was all based on their own creativity, somewhat disappointed but overall manageable. When asked to partner up, Tess was ready to go to Josh as her usual routine since her third year. But was immediately stopped by a Hufflepuff before she could even move.

She'd never met the girl before, and she wasn't too big of a fan of Hufflepuffs, but she figured being the Head Girl meant being approachable. A small smile graced her face at the girl who looked a bit ready to scram at words notice.

"I wouldn't mind" she said softly, "I'm Tess"

Scooting over so the girl could move closer, she put away her book as directed and waited for the girl to come closer so they could begin to brainstorm. She knew that taking lead was something that she should do, but with less force.

"Do you want to do the experiment?"

"Gina." The witch replied, relaxing slightly seeing as she didn't get dismissed almost instantly. Not that Gina would have cared, one shot at trying to be social and she could leave and do the experiment on her own.

"Do you want to do the experiment?"

"Oh no, I'm happy writing notes." Gina replied, slipping in to the seat beside the Head Girl and getting her notebook ready. "If you want to dictate, I'll add that to the notes and you can copy them afterwards." The witch added, though mostly she hoped Tess would come up with answers because she was really not very good at this subject.

Like most classes in this school, really.

Rhian trudged through the corridors, exhausted already. It wasn't even the second week of classes and she was ready for it to be over. She'd overloaded herself this last year, signing up for classes she'd never taken before, like this one. One thing she hadn't anticipated was that she didn't really know where the classes were located. So, like a naive first year, she was showing up late to most of them. She was rather annoyed with herself, but figured late was better than completely absent.

Finding the classroom finally, she pulled open the door far enough to slip in. She caught sight of the board and was at least a little intrigued. Her bag was placed under a desk as she saw people pairing up. Eyes scanning across the room, she saw that Tess was already with someone. Looking over, she caught sight of a Hufflepuff she'd never met before.

Taking a quick detour to the front, she approached the professor. "Sorry I'm late, sir. It won't happen again."

With that done, she moved back to the boy. "Hey, do you mind working together? Today's a bit off, and I missed a bit." Her smile was apologetic, and she was hopeful he'd understand. Maybe if she showed her merit during the work, then he would think she was a total tosser.

Lucas watched as a late Gryffindor came in, "It's alright, just please don't make a habit of it. " He replied, now everyone was here he was ready to make his announcement. "Not to take too much time out of your work, but there is an announcement. In the next few weeks there shall be a lecture , with guest speaker Aurora Dourse. All students are invited, and I would recommend taking this extra opportunity especially if you are interested in the healing area." Lucas told the class, "That is all, keep working until the end of class. Notes are to be handed in once you are done, then you may go." he finished, returning to walking around the room and checking on everyone's progress.

Cassidy listened to the explanation of the lesson given by the Professor, and watched the demonstration given. She was rather impressed, and very excited to be working with such a potion. They were told to partner up, and Cassidy looked around the room for a potential partner, but she didn't have to look far, or for long, because Josh Murray had slipped into the seat beside her.

"Young...Do you want to do the physicality's of the experiment, I'll write the notes?"

"Josh," she acknowledged, a slight smile at her lips. She hadn't seen him all holidays, or heard from him for that matter. But she supposed he had been busy, as she had been, of course. "Yeah, that sounds good," she replied to his suggestion. He knew she wouldn't say no as he took her own notepad and pen, beginning to write, and she was quite thankful for that. He was much smarter than her, and she knew that she wasn't the brightest, she never had been, and she was glad to stick with the practical side of the experiment, she was far more comfortable.

She took the vial of the Bloodberry potion, and pulled the paper under the meat towards her, dragging the meat with it. Taking a dropper full of of the potion, she squeezed some drops into the middle of the meat, and watched it sizzle and disintegrate before her eyes.

It came as no surprise that the witch beside him didn't say no to working with him, Josh knew he held something over this witch, and it was good to see that nothing had changed over the holidays. The Gryffindor seemed to just move in to the work, which was fine with Josh, the less questions asked the better, really.

Waiting for Cassidy to begin the waste of time of a project, Josh began to scribble down the notes they would need.

  • Instantaneous results when touching meat - combatting this poison would mean very fast reactions. Wash off immediately.
  • Disintegration begins from the area touched and moves outwards, so dependant on size of target depends on how quickly the disintegration occurs. Try to isolate the area affected where possible.
  • To avoid simple accidents, store securely as possible. Keep away from children reach.

Josh looked sideways to Cassidy once he'd finished. "Anything to add?" The Head Boy asked.
