Adelaide settled into her office like it was a second home. Already, she had set up filing cabinets of different cases filed under different topics. There was also a beverage and food area where she frequently made cups of coffee and ate chocolate frogs. Sometimes Adelaide would find herself staying in her office for two days straight or half a day at a time. An unusual feature inside her office was a huge cork board. Upon that board was a familiar case: the death of Lily and James Potter. It was a well known story about the Boy who Lived and why he lived. Adelaide was transfixed on this topic, trying to crack any secrets within this spell. Death was a dangerous, dark and curious topic. there was something to be discovered and she could do it, she had to find out what it was.
Tonight was one of her more relaxed nights where she didn't have to direct orders, look over other case files and attend meetings. Adelaide arrived late afternoon with a long sleep in. She had ten hours of sleep in her system and the familiar determination towards cracking cases was back. However, as soon as she went for dinner, an owl swooped into her office with an envelope between it's beak. The owl landed on her desk where Adelaide rushed over to get it. Opening it, she read it slowly and carefully.
There has been an attack at Salem, seeing as this is your area, we would like you to come and investigate. This could also be used for research in one of your cases.
Those two sentences were the most important in the letter. This was a great opportunity for Adelaide. Deciding to go along, she took her coat and bag before using her own floo network. She stood in the fireplace and spoke clearly,"Salem wizarding school, main entrance." Adelaide dropped the floo dust and found herself whisked away from her office.
True to her words, Adelaide was in the main ballroom where the attack took place. The first thing that Adelaide noticed as she stepped out of how the air smelt of death. She stood for a moment before heading into the main ballroom. She saw bodies all over the ground that were adults and students. Adelaide was horrified at the sight but she bore a mask of no emotion. She had to remind herself what she was here for. Standing at the doors, she could imagine what happened. The windows were broken and glass was across the ballroom floor. Parts of the wall had holes in them and some crumpled from dodged spells. It made her nauseated for the lives lost and those who were injured. Taking out one of her equipment, she stepped into the room.
In her hand Adelaide held a camera with a high definition lens. She started taking photos of what was around her before writing down notes. There was a heavy presence in the room but she ignored and kept looking around. She came to a student who was laying face down on the ground. Adelaide slipped on rubbed gloves and touched the girl's face. The students skin felt hot and she jerked her hand away in amazement. She looked at the young girl for a moment before turning her body to the front. The girl had lost half of her face. It looked like she had been knocked around the room. A wall near her was smeared in blood which was where she was most likely murdered. Nodding to herself, she stood up. "Well, that case isn't useful. It was a muggle death without any spells. It feels like magic was involved but she was knocked around to her death."
Adelaide walked over to two curious people. It was mentioned in the message she received earlier. There was head leader of the Black Widows and an ordinary student of Belladonna. They went by the names of Constance Vale and Estelle Lovelace. There was something odd about those two women. Bending down, she took photos of their bodies. Even though there was strong magical use to Constance's death, Estelle did have magical presence for her death.
It was odd. Adelaide felt she would need further examinations on these bodies. Something in her didn't feel quite right. It could cause sensitivity to the staff and students if she were to remove Estelle's body. However, Adelaide felt that this could be taken further. Adelaide decided that she would take the bodies who had magical influenced death back to the ministry for further research. Taking out her wand, she levitated each body she thought had magical influenced deaths and lined them up. Time passed and Adelaide realised that she worked through to the morning to see the sun rise. It shine through the room and light sparkled off the glass. It was beautifully tragic, she thought to herself. This room was full of mystery waiting to be discovered. Knowing that action had to be taken, she sent messages to her workers to be on scene to gather the rest of the bodies and place them into preserving caskets. From there, they would match bodies to profiles and let the school decide on what they would like to do.
Once all of the bodies were removed from the scene, she felt empty. Adelaide had ignored the ongoing nauseous feeling it gave her. She thought that it was vile to want to kill innocent people for useless mind games and 'fun' killing sprees. The weird feelings inside her vanished along with the bodies she examined. Her throat hurt and her legs felt stiff from all the crouching she did. It was another days work and that was something that Adelaide would have to keep reminding herself. Adelaide turned and closed what was left of the doors. It was not in her area to clean up after this and it was up to the school as to whether they wanted to destroy this area entirely. Turning her back, she went back to the floo network. Adelaide spoke the words clearly as she exited the school,"British Ministry of Magic." And then she was gone.
