Stealth & Tracking Part One Empty
PostSubject: Stealth & Tracking Part One   Stealth & Tracking Part One EmptyThu May 15, 2014 5:02 am

The classroom Louis had been given was mediocre to say the least. The Unseen University was nothing in comparison to the military stronghold he'd spent fifteen years working out of. Still, Louis shouldn't complain, this was not France, this was not the army. This was the corrupt Ministry of Magic that he had little and less interest in.

And yet here he was.

The class was prepared, and the sign up sheets had been returned to him along with a file on the history of each student he'd be teaching. Each one had been the usual run of the mill applicant, mostly fresh out of school and hoping to hit the big time.

They were going to have the shock of their lives, and that was precisely why he stood at the front of the class, face devoid of emotion, posture perfect. Waiting. His name was written on the board behind him in the military block he'd perfected over the years, and the title of the lesson displayed below.

Just another tedious programme to keep him from France's political power.

Scarlett had received her timetable for University and was absolutely ecstatic to begin. She had been waiting eagerly all summer to start and today was finally the day. Enthusiastically, she made her way to her first class. Stealth and Tracking, which was an absolutely essential part for her to become an Auror.

She walked into the classroom, noting first and foremost the stern-looking man, who would be her instructor. "Hi," she said "I'm Scarlett Waters, here for Stealth and Tracking" she said.

Aaron was beyond excited for this, he wanted to be able to protect the ones he loves and people he had no clue who they were from the same fate his sister, brother, and girlfriend (well ex-girlfriend) had all met. This was something he was meant to do even if it finally came to him when all the people he loved met their tragic end. Aaron had his timetable and walked into the class that taught Stealth and tracking. "Hello, I'm Aaron Rosier" he introduced.

"Hi," she said "I'm Scarlett Waters, here for Stealth and Tracking"

Louis hadn't looked away from the point he was focusing on when the door opened, but he was well aware of his surroundings. "Waters, take a seat." Louis insisted, noting the footsteps of another close behind.

"Hello, I'm Aaron Rosier"

"Same for you, Rosier. Sit down, talking is not a necessity." Louis continued, they'd soon learn that Louis took things very seriously, and so far, neither one of them sounded like they could pass the Stealth side of the lessons.

David had already had Bloodwork 101 class, and knew what to expect in these sorts of classes. he also knew NOT to be late, that was a big no no. He entered the class and immidately saw Scarlett, he walked up to her and placed a hand on her Shoulder "hey Scar, fancy seeing you here" He grinned, before turning to the professor, giving him a look over 'Professor. David Shuter. Pleasure.' He nodded before taking a seat beside Scarlett. He had heard the professors tone with Rosier, and knew this guy meant business , and he was not going to give the man reason to give him hell

Kaleb had to admit he was a little nervous about this, this was a big step in a career that would take a lot of dedication and devotion to other people that wasn't himself. Kaleb walked towards the class and looked around the room, he saw one face that was familiar but the others were not. Kaleb took a seat somewhere empty and waited for what his future brought.

'Professor. David Shuter. Pleasure.'

As the kid walked in, making a beeline for the only girl to arrive so far, Louis almost flinched at the lack of decorum between the boy and girl. "Shuter, please move to the back of the room, out of Waters way." Louis spoke clearly, despite the slight French tone that came with the disrespect of women. "You are all in a work environment now," Louis began, not acknowledging the next person that came in. "A professional work environment at that, I will not have the whole touching one another, especially not between men and women, in my classroom. If anyone has a problem with that, the door is right there."

Louis had always been a serious man, and already he could see that this was not going to go well. "We should get a few things clear, before we start. I am not a Professor, so you do not need to call me such things. We will use last names only in this class. Your training will be militarised, so please don't think this is going to be an easy ride.

"Now, for today we will be looking at Stealth and Tracking. In the Auror field, much like an military organisation, stealth is one of the basic methods of survival in this world. Can anyone think of any Magical, or non-Magical manners in which stealth is used? Any methods that ease the stealth process?" Louis asked, looking around the classroom. "One each, I want to see what you can each come up with."

"Hey Scar, fancy seeing you here"

She smiled up at him and went to reply before Clement told him to move to the back of the classroom. As he explained the 'no touching' policy, she felt herself start to blush slightly at the insinuation, but she willed herself to make her expression neutral, professional.

"Can anyone think of any Magical, or non-Magical manners in which stealth is used? Any methods that ease the stealth process?"

"I think one method to ease the stealth process would involve using silencing charms. You could cast it on the general area you'd be walking through and that'd be sort of insurance if you were to trip over an obstacle or something," she answered.

"Shuter, please move to the back of the room, out of Waters way."

David shrugged. It was not like he planned on touching Scarlett. First of all, he didn't see her in that way, second of all, he was loyal to Shiva, but he moved to the back of the class as ordered.

"Can anyone think of any Magical, or non-Magical manners in which stealth is used? Any methods that ease the stealth process?"

"Waters already mentioned a silencing charm, which would go hand in hand with a Disillusionment charm, sir. Without being seen, or heard and as long as you don't run into anybody, you would be able sneak around most obstacles." The young trainee said, still slightly peeved at the whole 'boys can't be friendly to girls' thing. He had hopped to have at least one friend in the Auror ranks, and now he was told they could not be friends? He would get over it, but right now he was peeved

Louis paid little attention to the boy who moved to the back, he could think what he liked, but in this room, respect of women was a given. Starting with only touching one another when given permission. Evidently the boy was not from a sophisticated background, but the boy would learn.

But Louis wiped that away as Scarlett began to explain her ideology on how she would use stealth. A silencing charm was a good idea, and Louis nodded slightly. "Very good, Waters, but it would be poor show to use it on it's own."

As the next answer came from David, Louis' eyes moved to the young man. "The Disillusionment Charm is also correct, Shuter. Paired with the silencing charm, it would give you an advantage, though I don't think it would be quite as strong as you deem it to be." Louis explained, it would be good enough for a lot of things, but not as perfect as the boy believed.

"So far we've had only magical devices of stealth. What happens if you've lost your wand? Or if you're too weak to produce such spells? Or, perhaps your in a non-magical area, someone has made it impossible to use magic, then what would you do?" Louis asked, looking to the other members of the group for an answer. They were thinking too narrowly, and narrow minded people were always the first to perish in Louis' experience.

David gave the man a puzzled look "A totally none magical way would be Muggle Camo, but that does not do well unless you are in a forest area." He then thought a few more seconds before saying "You aren't leaning towards a invisibility cloak are you sir? Those aren't exactly none magical. It is true you do not need to cast a spell to use one, but its still a magical object. Not Muggle at all." He said with a hint of uncertainty.

As the boy who'd already made a clear view of himself spoke again, Louis had to close his eyes momentarily to stop himself from using unnecessary magic. The Army Corps had taught respect of not only yourself but others, it seemed this boy knew neither. "Mr Shuter, I do not know if you are compensating for something by making a show of yourself, or you just wish to get on my good side by supplying all the answers, but I will have you know that neither are impressing me."

The Frenchman took a moment. "Please, head down in to the grounds, to the furthest point away from me, quickly, and find me the best clay in the Earth in this area. I do not wish to see your face back here until you have a bucket of the stuff." Louis explained, not even beginning to reflect on his answer. The boy had not listened and he did not deserve a reply.

"So far we've had only magical devices of stealth. What happens if you've lost your wand? Or if you're too weak to produce such spells? Or, perhaps your in a non-magical area, someone has made it impossible to use magic, then what would you do?"

She listened as David put forward his answer, and as the lecturer sent him outside to collect a bucket full of clay. Woah, was he tough. Scar didn't quite understand, nor could she fathom reasoning for his actions, but she decided that there must be something. He was far more experienced than any of them here, so clearly he knew what he was doing, however obscure it would be to her.

Now, non-magical concealment. She returned her thoughts to what she knew muggles used for stealth "There's tonnes of things that can be used," she mused a little "I suppose clothing is a huge factor. When people think of stealth, they think of all-black sorts of clothing. But really, it could just be dressing to blend into the crowd, if there is one. And technology, technology's huge. I guess an example of that is that there are certain devices that can detect movement. Knowing where your enemy is can help you to know where to be at different times to avoid them. Things like that," she answered.

"Mr Shuter, I do not know if you are compensating for something by making a show of yourself, or you just wish to get on my good side by supplying all the answers, but I will have you know that neither are impressing me."

David was shocked, he was just trying to answer the questions so that the man could actually teach them things. Since no one else seemed to be doing it. "I am not doing such a thing.. sir." He said stiffly. He had nothing to compensate for.

"Please, head down in to the grounds, to the furthest point away from me, quickly, and find me the best clay in the Earth in this area. I do not wish to see your face back here until you have a bucket of the stuff."

David contemplated not coming back at all. But he needed this course to continue in his job, and be good at it so he said "Yes sir" he then grabbed a random bucket and walked out of the class room. He did not know what the professor was going through to make him such a killjoy, but he hoped he would get over it soon. He did not look forward to a full semester under that cranky man.

(He will come back after a few posts)

"I am not doing such a thing.. sir."

Louis did not give a reply to the young man. He neither cared for motives nor had he asked for back chat. This was going to be a tiring year, to say the least. But, they would push through, because Louis could make sure that people learnt. It was just a demonstration was needed. Eventually, however, the boy walked out, and Louis allowed the moment to generate a calm inside him once more

As Scarlett spoke up again, Louis gave a tired sigh. Too many egotistical people in this room for his liking. Instead of allowing others chances, they went for glory. "Thank you, Waters, but once again, there are others. Your first warning. Don't have me send you on pointless errands." Louis spoke clearly, before moving on to the answer at hand.

"Both ideas are correct, you're thinking outside the box a little bit more now." Louis praised the witch, he wasn't a bad man, afterall, and he knew talent when he saw it. The witch before him had exactly that. "And you touched slightly on tracking too, which is good. Using as many concepts as possible.

"Come on Rosier, Chase, speak up, you'll get no where in this business if you shy away from people."

There were many times Kaleb was going to answer but never could get in quick enough, finally when Clement decided to call him out in the class, Kaleb had to hold back an eye roll. He was thinking of something that could be useful in the Stealth or Tracking. Finally Kaleb just came up with something that could work but it could also go wrong without extra precautions. "Well if you want to track someone, you can always use a Glamour Charm and pretend to be someone you're not and it will be easier to track the enemy. Like the people always say, keep your friends close but your enemies closer" Kaleb answered.

Aaron listened to everyone's answers with interest, everyone had good ideas on the two subjects at hand. The ex-Ravenclaw and Belladonna was quite intrigued but knew he needed to pick up his game so that he could become an Auror and be able to find his sister's killer and either kill the guy or imprison him, he needed to know what to do first though. Aaron had an answer on Stealth and spoke up.

"For Stealth in order to take precautions you never enter a place alone, always make sure you have backup and always make sure that your senses are on high alert, if they're not then there will be a chance that you or someone else could die" Aaron knew that you were never supposed to enter a place without having your backup present.

"Well if you want to track someone, you can always use a Glamour Charm and pretend to be someone you're not and it will be easier to track the enemy. Like the people always say, keep your friends close but your enemies closer"

"A good idea, Chase, though that would require some previous knowledge of the person you are disguising yourself as, habits, schedule, mannerisms, doable, but a longer route for tracking. I am liking the thought track though, keep it up!" Louis replied to the boy, glad that the boy had found his tongue because his answer had been correct.

As Rosier spoke up next, Louis noted the name of a former Death Eater. Wondering if the man before him was related for a split moment, Louis nodded at the answer that was given. "That is an essential answer, Rosier. Auror training should teach you the importance of working together. Of realising not one of you is standing alone in this field. You must trust one another, you must know each other inside out, but most of all, you have to be ready to kill for one another. This isn't a light hearted situation."

"In part two of your training you will be expected to get through many obstacles to prove your competence in this field. You will need to have as many spells in your arsenal as possible. You will need to think on your feet. Not only will you need to track people, but they will be tracking you. It will be a simulation, so if one of you makes a mistake, you're going to make everyone else fail." Louis explained.

"So, tracking, there are more spells to use to track people, as well as Muggle devices. Of course, we might not just be seeking people. Explosives, traps, alarms. You need to be aware of all of these. Anyone give me an idea how we might get past this?"

David returned with the bucket full of clay just as the professor started his question. He placed the bucket at his feet then said "It depends on the type of trap, alarm and explosive, but the common denominator is keeping your eyes, ears and yes, even nose open. Do not walk in blindly, get a feel for your surroundings. Knowledge on muggle technology would help tremendously" He was sure the professor would start on him about being a knowing it all or whatever, but he supplied an answer, which was why he was at this university, to learn, and to demonstrate is knowledge or lack of knowledge. If that was not the reason to be here, David was out.

He then went back to stand at his previous position, arms crossed over his chest, waiting to get yelled at.

PostSubject: Re: Stealth & Tracking Part One   Stealth & Tracking Part One EmptySun Jun 01, 2014 3:15 am

When the door opened, admitting David Shuter once more, Louis watched the boy move to his side and put the bucket down before him. No note of an apology, no mention of completing the task, just the same indignant tones of an answer. The boy was right, though his answer was very unspecific. The boy obviously thought a lot of himself, Louis summarised, even though he knew nothing more than a child.

"Thank you, Shuter." Louis replied, the bucket of clay began to mix itself, a small amount of water mixing with the clay to get it to the right consistency. No wand in sight, nor even on Louis' person, and no other words were muttered. Buckets began to move to the front of the room, without any warning or show of magic. Wandless and non-verbal magic, Louis had perfected at the age of the students around him.

Along with many other things.

The clay began to split itself between two other buckets, tilted enough for the class to observe the process. "I'm sure you're all aware of the Muggle version of camouflage?" Louis asked, looking around the class for confirmation. "When I was your age I served in the French army, everyone who joined at the time believed they knew how to disguise themselves. Everyone failed the exam." Louis explained, walking down the middle of the class and motioning for Shuter to sit down.

Slowly, the buckets change in to three colours, black, green and brown.

"Resourcefulness is also a key factor to your work in the Auror division. The university did not supply me with pre-made camouflage. We have now made our own. Your books will teach you the spells for such things. Partner up, Shuter and Rosier. Chase and Waters. Auror work is about partnership, you're going to apply camouflage to one another's faces. Your work, could, one day, be the difference between your partner staying alive and your partner dying." Louis explained, the buckets pouring themselves out equally and distributing the colours to each group.

Scarlett listened intently on the answers given by the others in the class, not wanting to step out of line again. She had always taken her studies seriously, and continue to do so, now more than ever. David returned with the bucket full of clay, and an answer to Louis' question. At first, she was curious as to what the clay was for, until he had begun to explain his time in the French military, and the importance of camouflage.

When it was stated that they'd be applying it to a partner, Scar already felt inadequate. She wasn't very good at this sort of thing at all, and she had no clue how to even begin to apply it to someone's face. She could apply make-up with ease, but that was a whole different spectrum. But she'd have to learn one way or another. She took the bucket and moved to where her partner for the task was "Just letting you know first off, I'm not very good at this sort of thing," she said to him.

Aaron listened to Clement talk along with Shuter and before he knew it he was partnered up with David Shuter, he had got up and went to meet David and watched as the other two in the classroom partnered up like the two males. Aaron was okay at what they had to do but he wasn't a complete artist like his partner would probably be. Aaron didn't know what to say really to his partner.

I believe he said we were partners." He flashed the man a smile before he went and grabbed his bucket, coming back and saying "Do you want to be painted first, or do the painting?"

Kaleb had to admit he was highly amused at the scene that was unfolding in front of him, he decided that he'd just step in. He walked over to Scarlett and began to speak when he met her where she was. "Hello, would you like me to start first and follow me after?" He had heard her say how she wasn't very good at what they were going to be doing for the class. Trust him, he wasn't good either but he sure as hell was going to try.

Aaron thought about it, did he want to paint first or be painted? He really wasn't sure, he didn't know if he wanted to embarrass the living hell out of himself by painting something wrong and then having his partner out due him by being completely better, but then again this was not a competition between the two males so he decided that even though he was an okay painter, he'd at least go first. "I'll go first if you don't mind... I mean with being the painter" he clarified.

(OOC: Yes I did Razz Sorry, didn't realize the mistake until I reread the entire thing, edited my post XD)
