PostSubject: Stealth & Tracking Part Two (Only Students who passed Part One)   Sat Jun 07, 2014 2:30 am

After the lesson before Christmas, Louis had gone back to the Palace with little and less enthusiasm to continue. How could people be so stupid in this day and age? Louis wasn't sure. Seeing Vanessa had helped though, the stress in his shoulders slowly ebbing away as they conversed on many and more topics. Vanessa had, as she always did, helpfully pointed out that he didn't need to work if he didn't want to.

But Louis had reminded her that he would drive her up the wall if he stayed home.

The fondness in her smile had been all that kept him coming back to the class. He had to be positive after all, there was one candidate who had made it through his lessons. Perhaps she could be promising today? Louis hoped so, because there was absolutely no way he was going through all that rubbish again.

With the scenario set up, Louis waited out in the field test, somewhere in the Cotswolds that had been turned in to a training exercise, for Scarlett Waters to turn up.

Scarlett had been the only one in her class to make it through the first part of Auror training, and unsurprisingly to, because that lesson had turned into a disaster. She still couldn't understand why they thought that the lesson would involve painting. Regardless though, she had made it through to the next stage, and was willing to give it her all.

She made her way out to the field, where Louis had set up a training exercise, both excited for the chance to really prove herself, and nervous, seeing as she was the only one going to be there. "Hello," she greeted politely as she reached him.

Louis was stood watching the final elements of the make-shift operation be put in to place when he heard the advancing of the only student left on his course. Scarlett Waters seemed to have a good head on her shoulders, and the folder with her data showed as much from her results at school.

"Hello,"

"Good morning, Waters." Louis acknowledged, turning to the girl who had just arrived and giving her a warm smile. "Congratulations on getting this far. Though, with the rest of them, you look like a shining penny in comparison. I hope you can forgive the abysmal first lesson." Louis spoke softly, he was not a bad man, he just pushed students hard. Anybody could say they wanted to be an Auror, but passing the course was a different matter all together.

"Today I have set up a real life situation for you to attempt. Seeing as everyone else has failed, I will be your partner for today. We will have to use everything you learnt from last lesson, as well as bringing in any knowledge from school and the wider world. The aim is to get to the centre of the building in front of us, take the red box from the middle, and get back out." Louis explained, pausing for a moment to let her take the information in. "All of this, without raising the alarm."

Looking back to the building and the surrounding area, a forest to one side, a plain view of the main entrance. Guards out the front. Right now, they were not on the clock, it would give the time witch to think her plan through. "Do you have any questions, before we start?" Louis asked, making a small motion with his hands that brought a small model in front of them. "This is the fort layout, memorise what you can." He added, hoping that she could keep up. Another job in the Auror training was to think on your feet, and try your hardest to remember every piece of information you were given.

"Congratulations on getting this far. Though, with the rest of them, you look like a shining penny in comparison. I hope you can forgive the abysmal first lesson."

"Thank you," she smiled softly at his warmth. It was clear to her that he wasn't necessarily as strict has he had seemed, he just had a low tolerance for stupidity. She listened as he explained the task for the day and nodded to show her comprehension at each point he made.

"Do you have any questions, before we start?"

She shook her head "Everything seems pretty clear," she watched as they bought up the model of the fort and studied it, trying to memorise as much as she could, particularly focussing on the entrance and exits, and places where guards would possible be "Got it," she said after a few moments to take it in.

The witch before him took everything in her stride that he explained to her, making Louis both proud and nervous at the same time. If she missed anything it could be vital, but if she had told him she understood, then he wouldn't argue. It was part of learning, after all. "Now, one last thing you should know before we begin, the people inside aren't real. They're just very realistic dummies. Therefore, you should use any spell you can think of, and don't hold back. Obviously, barraging the place is not what I want, but magic will be necessary in some cases."

With that, Louis pulled his rucksack on to his back and pulled out the wand he hadn't used in many and more years. Still, it was easier for the witch's imagination if she could see him working with her. "From now on, you're in charge, Waters. You give commands, you make the decisions on direction. When you're ready, please begin."

In that moment, Louis waved her forwards, wondering how she was going to proceed, how she was going to work against alarms and guards. He was quite sure she would do well, but only time would tell.

OOC: Task 1 - choose how to get in to the Fort - be creative.
Task 2 - disable a guard as soon as you enter - he spots you and goes to raise the alarm.

Arriving late as a last-minute write in Marilyn approached the area she had been told to go to. The somber girl arrived wand in hand and was a tad apprehensive about meeting the other student. The fleeting thought occured that with Mari's heavily scarred neck, shoulders and lightly scarred face in addition to her broken vocal chords, the other potential Auror could think she was the test and attack her. But she waved that thought away.

"Mr. Clement?" she inquired as she walked up to them.  They appeared to be on the verge of beginning an exercise.

"Mr. Clement?"

"Merde! Désolé, I forgot about you, Mademoiselle Caldwell." Louis told the girl, shaking his head at his stupidity before looking at both ladies apologetically for his swearing. "Waters, this is Caldwell, Caldwell, this is Waters. You're the two most competent Aurors in training we've got." Louis explained, hoping they wouldn't go too girly on him now the numbers were uneven.

Conjuring the map back up for Mari's use, the man looked to Scarlett before addressing the situation. "Infiltrate to hear," he explained, pointing to the centre point. "Stealth will be required. Use everything you have learnt so far, get out undetected. You'll work together, I will follow to supervise and intervene if necessary.

"When you're ready, both of you please begin." The man explained, looking between the two of them in a silent plea for questions.

Scar didn't remember the other girl being in the previous class, and judging by the scars, it would seem her acceptance was well-deserved. She assumed that they had come from a battle, she didn't know for sure though. She gave the girl a smile as Clement quickly re-explained the task for her.

"When you're ready, both of you please begin."

She looked to the girl and drew her wand "Come on," she said to her quietly. She had decided to head for the trees surrounding the fort, towards one of the sides. She figured that would be the best approach. She darted behind a thick-trunked tree and waited for Mari to come, to see if she had some input. She wanted team work, not to be the one calling all the shots.

Marilyn pulled out her wand and nodded her agreement, staying closely behind the other girl until they were in the trees.
Then, in hushed tones she spoke, knowing her wrecked voice probably sounded like something out of a horror film under these circumstances, but she pressed on, "We should get up. Better overview. Check if there's guards on the roof and go from there." she suggested. "and we'll need to hide the bodies. Maybe a Disillusionment charm for that. that'd be easier than trying to drag the bodies." She offered her insight and awaited her partners input. Teamwork was essential for a successful mission, for a successful auror. And Waters seemed very competant, and that would hopefully prove in the duration of this lesson.

She listened to what the girl had to say and nodded "Good idea, so get rid of the guards above first, that way we've only got the ones on the ground to worry about when we get through," she said "As for the bodies, we could levitate them somewhere outside of the fort, then use the charm, because if someone trips over them, we risk discovery," she added. Mari had good ideas, and she could tell that she'd be competent. Following Mari's idea of getting up, she decided the best way would be to scale the tree and use the leaves to hide while she observed where the guards were stationed near where they were going to enter.

The witch nodded her agreement and began scaling the tree she thought best for the job. Quickly scanning the area she saw two guards on the roof and she waved at her partner, "on the count of three we take them out, I'll take the one on the right. You take the left. okay?" She waited until she saw the girl was ready before pointing her wand, "one...two...three, Stupefy" a flash of red his her target in the back and he fell. Now the could get over and levitate the bodies off the roof. Marilyn looked to her partner for confirmation after voicing, "Should we levitate first and then go over or go over and do it from there?"

She saw the other girl start climbing another tree close to her, and found a stable branch to sit on that was high enough to see the guards and looked from behind the trunk. Seeing the two guards on the roof, she barely had time to formulate what to do before Mari jumped in. She nodded at the girl's suggestion and aimed at the guard on the left.

"one...two...three, Stupefy"

"Petrificus totalus" she cast on the count of three. It was a nice, clean shot, hitting the dummy spot on in the back of the head, limbs snapping to its side and toppling over.

"Should we levitate first and then go over or go over and do it from there?"

"From here," she answered, and shot a winguardium leviosa charm at the guard she'd taken down, which now hung slightly above the ground "Then we'll be certain we've hidden them properly," she explained, waving her wand to move the guard towards the bushes "That and a disillusionment charm and we'll be sweet,"

"That and a disillusionment charm and we'll be sweet,"

After petrifying her own dummy the witch nodded in agreement, "Wingardium Leviosa" She murmured, guiding the figure down to the bushes carefully. She let him down, releasing the spell and then cast a disillusionment charm onto it, watching relieved as it shimmered and faded from view. So far so good. Two guards down, competant partner, all good as far as Marilyn was concerned.
Staying focused she turned to look at her partner, "Now, do you have a map? Perhaps once we're on the roof we can get in through an air vent or such. Unless we take out the guards out front from above, but by acting from above we risk someone inside seeing two guards passed out and flying away."

She lowered the guard she'd taken down behind a bush and cast the disillusionment charm on it. Hopefully it wouldn't wear off anytime soon, though she wanted to move quickly incase it did. She tried to memorise what guards were stationed "The air vent idea is good. And we can put a silencing charm so they don't hear us," she said "And those guards at the bottom are just going to walk away," she added. She felt some nerves wash over her with her plan, she had never used an Unforgivable curse before. But taking a deep breath, concentrating on what she wanted to do, she aimed her wand at one of the guards and looked to Mari "Imperious on three?" she asked her.

"Imperious on three?"

Marilyn didn't bat an eyelash, she'd used all three unforgivables before in her escape and certainly felt no moral obligation towards a dummy. She decided against asking her partner if this was her first time using one. She nodded, "One...Two...Three, Imperio" she whispered in full concentration, calmly willing the dummy to walk very far away, watching the golden mist from her wand take one dummy hold as he did as she wished.

"Perfect, now we could scale the wall if we climb down the tree again ad use a temporary sticking charm on our fingers and shoes, it would be quicker than using rope. Then silencing charms and off into the vent we go. Okay?"

On the count of three, Scarlett cast imperio at the dummy. It was a strange feeling, using an unforgivable curse. She felt as though she'd get in trouble for using it, despite it being her idea. That was her problem a lot of the time, she thought up ideas, but rarely followed through. She concentrated on making the dummy walk away from its post, calmly.

She listened to Mari's plan and nodded "Okay," she said and she made her way as quick as possible, trying to stay as quiet as possible. She sprinted over to the wall, light on her feet, and began to use the sticking charm on her hands and feet, as Mari had said.

As soon as she was at the wall Marilyn murmured the sticking charm, stuck her wand in her teeth and began scaling the wall, feeling slightly odd, climbing up awall like the geckos that used to stick to the walls in her old home in Mexico.

It didn't take long for the witch to clamber over the edge onto the roof, dropping her wand into her lap, taking her wand to her hand, "Finite Incantatum" and becoming un-sticky. Thank merlin, it had been a vaguely unpleasent sensation. "Let's look at the map first, so we're not aimlessly lost in the vents."

Louis watched the witches from a distance, his own presence would not register to the dummies, so he could walk in the open to have the optimum view of their activities. Taking down the guard dummies had been easy enough for the witches, something he'd marked down before they both used Unforgivables with little trouble.

It was worth noting, though he hoped the witches wouldn't rely on those spells, even though they were permitted to use them. Though, he was quite sure both of them knew the limits, and the right and wrong time to use such spells.

The air vents was a clever idea, one that Louis was quite proud of them for thinking of. If these two worked together in the future, well, it seemed they were going to make some team.

Second set of objectives:
- Candidates must show an act of patience in their attempts to infiltrate. (For example; use patience instead of violence to get past guards.
- Candidates must show some kind of confidence in the other. (Use a test of trust, or something similar to collect the target in question.)

Once she'd finished climbing, she removed the sticking charm from her hands and feet. It had been an odd feeling to her, and she hadn't liked it much, but it got the job done. She brushed off her hands and looked to Mari when she said to look at the map and nodded "I think we just should keep as straight as possible. But we need to make sure we don't go too far, or we'll miss the centre," she said. She glanced around where they were "Through there," she pointed to the door and jogged quietly towards it to peer in.

Marilyn nodded in response to her partners point of direction and peered in with her.
"Okay, let's get in. I'll go first," she crawled into the vent, it wasn't too tight a fit but it definitly wasn't comfortable. She crawled on for a while, keeping straight, looking back sometimes to make sure Waters was alright. Then there was a sort of barred space like a window in the vent from which she could see a guard, but was still hidden herself in the vent. They seemed to be patrolling, and from her mental map this was a good place to climb out, they could open the vent and climb onto the nearby shelf and then to the floor.
She crawled back a little bat and turned her head, "I think if we wait for a few minutes the guard will go on with his patrol. Then we can climb out and go on from there. There's a shelf we can climb out onto. Okay?" she whispered oh so quietly, so only Waters would hear her.
Now, to wait.

She looked around as she waited for Mari to crawl into the tiny vent. As soon as there was room, she crawled in quickly, making sure to hook her foot on one of the bars to close it behind them. Mari stopped crawling, presumedly to look through a vent, and Scar waited patiently while Mari explained. "Okay," she breathed in response. The space was too cramped for her liking, and she felt awkward with such limited movements of her limbs, but she would be patient, it was essential if they wanted to complete the task.

The girls stayed where they were for about ten-eleven minutes, breathing quietly and staying still until, finally, the guard turned around a corner and Mari heard his steps fading away into nothingness. Then she used her wand to open the vent, setting the casing aside.
"Alright, I'm gonna go down feet first, hold onto my wrist until I'm on the bookcase, then I'll help you out, okay?"
She barely managed to turn around, but then held onto the other girls wrist in a secure hold, looking back and forth between her partners eyes and the bookcase, hoping to Merlin she didn't let her fall.

Louis watched the witches working with interest, as he moved around freely, invisible to the dummies, he watched them navigate over the walls and in to the events. All undetected and very carefully planned out. Louis was nothing short of impressed with the two candidates that had made it this far.

As the witches completed each task he'd set, though not known to them, Louis decided he'd seen enough. Sure, they hadn't finished the whole task of retrieving the information from inside, but Louis had seen enough to know that they were competent enough to pass his class.

Moving to the middle of the room as Mari navigated her way successfully from the vents, Louis gave both witches a very small smile.

"Congratulations ladies, I have seen enough today." He told them, turning his clipboard around enough for the two of them to see they had ticked each criteria on his list. "You need not complete the assignment. I will look forward to seeing you both in my next class, and your credentials will be passed on to Mycroft Holmes. Your rank in the Auror field will be updated within due course."

With that, Louis turned on the spot, apparating away, he didn't need to stay, it was only small talk that would ensue, and quite honestly he wasn't interested.

Class now closed, well done ladies!
