DADA Lesson 1 – Years 1 & 2 Empty

Summer had been something eventful for Jake, and despite not getting a rest from work over the summer like most professors, Jake was back in front of his class with his usual enthusiasm. The room was once more devoid of furniture, and Jake leant against the desk waiting for the class to start. Who would be here this year, he was completely sure, but he hoped that his first lesson would be enough to excite the younger years.

Behind him on the blackboard, the words “Curse of the Bogies” was written in his not so neat scrawl. Jake had already hung his suit jacket on his chair, freeing himself for demonstrations if necessary, but more for comfort than anything else.

Natasha really did enjoy school, and she also quite enjoyed class. Her summer had been alright, but really she just loved school, and she couldn't wait to return. She walked into the DADA class, and was slightly surprised to find that she was the first one in "Hi Jake," she greeted "Did you have good holidays?" she asked as she set down her bag and looked at the writing on the board to determine the day's lesson.

"Hi Jake," she greeted "Did you have good holidays?"

"I had lovely holidays, thank you." Jake replied with a small smile on his lips. "I hope you did too!" He added, though he didn't pry because some people weren't so open.

Jake waited for as long as possible for more people to turn up, but when it seemed it would only be one person in his class, Jake gave the witch a warm smile. "Well, Natasha, it looks like you're in luck, you get a personal lesson!" Jake commented warmly, standing up from his desk.

"What can you tell me about the Curse of the Bogies?" Jake asked, wondering how much reading the witch had done. Of course, if she didn't know, Jake wouldn't be upset with the witch, that was the idea of these lessons after all.

Ingrid finally found her DADA classroom, she felt sure that it was on the third floor not the second, never the less she strolled in noticing only one other student. The girl was surprised to find that this was the first classroom without desks.

The class had already started, as she placed her bag down she heard the Professor asking something, her eyes flicked to the board and saw written there "Curse of the Bogies", a sinister smirk graced the young Ravenclaw's face, her first lesson of this class and they would be learning a curse, Ingrid had a feeling this was going to be a good day

She was about to answer Jake's question when another Ravenclaw girl walked into the classroom. She turned back to Jake "Well, I'm quite sure that the thing you say is 'Mucus ad Nauseam'," she remembered from reading "And naturally, the light of the spell is green," she added with a small smile "Quite fitting, that," she commented and looked to the other girl, to see if she would add anything.

Jake had waited to see if the late Ravenclaw would add anything to Natasha's answer, but when nothing came, the professor decided to carry on. "Very good, Natasha, take five points for Ravenclaw!" Jake told the witch with a warm smile. "Today, seeing as there are two of you, you can try it on one another to see if you can do it, but also to feel the effects. I will reverse them before you leave so don't think you'll be getting out of classes!

"If you wave your wand in a hook kind of shape and speak the incantation Mucus ad Nauseam whilst concentrating on the effects of the spell you wish to see on the other, you should be successful. Don't give up if you don't succeed to start with. When you're ready, please begin."

When Jake further explained the spell, Natasha took mental notes in her head, of how to appropriately cast it. When he told them to try it on each other, Natasha took out her wand and turned to the other Ravenclaw "I'll go first," she stated to the girl, aiming her wand and pronouncing clearly 'Mucus ad Nauseam', concentrating on making the spell work, whilst waving her wand in a hook. The first time, nothing happened. She tried again, concentrating more on what she wanted to happen. There was a stream of gooey-green light aimed at the other Ravenclaw girl.
