PostSubject: DADA - Lesson 1 (Years 6 & 7)   DADA - Lesson 1 (Years 6 & 7) EmptyThu May 01, 2014 7:06 am

The idea of taking over Professor Finn had been presented to Jake in a letter from both schools. Apparently they deemed him capable of teaching the lesson and Jake had been more than willing to accept the role. It had been Azalea who'd helpfully pointed out that he simply wouldn't been able to juggle four days of teaching on top of his Quidditch career, so Jake had had to make a big decision on what he wanted to do.

And the answer came to him almost a moment later.

Defence Against the Dark Arts had been so much more fun to learn about, so he'd written back to the schools, asking them to transfer his job choice. Which left Jake ready for his lessons in Defence at the beginning of the year.

Nervous didn't cut it as Jake fiddled with his tie as he waited for the students to arrive. This was a big step up, but like Azalea kept telling him, he could do it. Continuing with Professor Finn's ideas, there were no tables or chairs in the classroom save his own, plenty of space to practice.

Now to simply wait for the lesson ahead of him.

Behind him on the board featured his semi legible handwriting, stating the word "Inferi".

To say that Mary wasn't a bit dissappointed about Professor Finn not teaching anymore would be a lie. She had grown to like the Headmistress and her way of teaching, but she understood she was a busy woman. And when she heard that Jake would be teaching instead, the dissappoitment disappeared completely. She would miss the Headmistress, but she knew Jake would be brilliant at his job.

The Head Girl walked in the familiar classroom with a grin on her face and in a good mood. "Hi, Jake! Congratulations on getting the job." she said with a wave. There weren't any tables or chairs in the classroom, as it was usual for this class and Mary put her shoulder bag on the floor against the wall and took out only her wand.

Charlie was a little shocked when she heard that Jake was now teaching DADA, it was going to be new but she'd wish him the best of luck with it. If it made him happy that was good for him. Charlie walked into the classroom and looked around. It looked the same as last year, but then again even she could miss the smallest detail. "Hey Jake, good luck with the new job. Hey Mary" she greeted to the two of them.

Diem was glad to be back, she had a great summer and hoped that it didn't end, but she was really glad to be back and ready for the new year. The brunette walked into the DADA classroom and was shocked when she saw her flying Professor standing there with a tie on. Diem was confused but let it shake off. "Hi!" She greeted to them all. Diem was glad to be back for her sixth year.

When Apollo had heard that Jake was going to be teaching DADA instead of Flying, he was a little disappointed. Apollo loved to fly but then again he could do that during his free time. Obviously something had happened with Professor Finn that caused her to take a leave of absence. Apollo entered DADA and saw three girls and Jake. "Hey Jake, I see you got tired of the Quidditch pitch" Apollo teased.

"Hi, Jake! Congratulations on getting the job."

"Hey Mary! And thanks, it came as quite a surprise. Azalea said... Well, she thought this would be good, you know!" Jake confided, glad to see a somewhat familiar face in the class that would help to ease his nerves slightly.

"Hey Jake, good luck with the new job. Hey Mary"

"Hi Charlie, thanks again, I'll need it!" Jake replied, thoroughly happy with the Wormwood display, they were always such nice people. The two girls before him showed just that. As three more people entered, Jake smiled to each of them. "Hi Diem, Apollo, Michelle. And not quite, Mr Oxton, I still have the Meteorites to play for. I just wanted... a challenge."

After a short pause, Jake checked his new watch he'd received for his birthday and then clapped his hands together, bracing himself for the lesson. "Okay everyone, the topic today, as you may have noted from the board is Inferi. I'm not going to say much in the hope you can all give me some answers. So, lets go with one fact each, who can tell me something about Inferi?"

Charlie watched as Jake answered everyone back when they either asked him a question or said good luck for his new job. When Charlie heard what was going to be taught in class, she thought about what he was asking. When she kept saying the name in her head, she eventually got what it was. "One fact about Inferi is that Skeletal beings that are said to resemble zombies" Charlie answered.

Diem heard her fellow classmate Charlie give a fact about Inferi, Diem heard about them actually looking like zombies and really hoped she'd never have the chance to actually see one, but then again this lesson was based on them so there was a pretty good chance she'd eventually see one, but hopefully it would be fake. Diem raised her hand when she remembered something about them. "Inferi have no free will" Diem said, she lowered her hand.

Well, the subject was sort of morbid but Mary supposed they needed to know this sort of information. It was interesting, of course and even though she had read about the Inferi before, she wanted to see what Jake had to say about them. She hoped she would never have to come face to face with one, but if she did, she wanted to be prepared.

She listened to Charlie and Diem and then raised her hand as well. "They're sort of undead puppets, charmed to do the will of their master."

Jake listened to the girls as they each gave an answer to his question. A nod came with each point, showing he believed them to be alright. "All of you are correct, five points each!" Jake told them, happy that the girls had at least done their reading before coming to class. "Inferi are undead creatures created by someone to use as puppets, to summarise. This makes them incredibly difficult to defeat, you can't kill something that is undead, and they cannot be deterred by anyone but their master.

"Can anyone tell me of any ways in which we can defeat Inferi? Preferably someone yet to answer?" Jake asked, looking to those who hadn't given an answer already to include as many people as he could in the lesson.

Michelle heard what other girls in this class said and she nodded on that all quietly. She really didn't know to.much about it. "I don't really know how to kill but I know they don't like fire or light. So you can use fire-spells against them. Not sure if it will kill them," she stated then something what she have heard somewhere before. She wasn't sure if it was what Jake wanted to know or not.

"I don't really know how to kill but I know they don't like fire or light. So you can use fire-spells against them. Not sure if it will kill them,"

"Correct, Michelle, five points for you too!" Jake replied, smiling happily at the fact his class seemed to be well established in their knowledge. "Now, a simple Lumos isn't going to cover it, so I need you to think fire. Nothing too extreme, just enough to rid them. Today, I have a few specimens. Please do not be alarmed, you are safe in this classroom." He insisted, taking out his wand and lowering the light to a very dim glow.

But enough for everyone to see.

"I have enough Inferi for each of you to face one. I want you to allow the creature to move close to you, have a look at it, but when it goes to attack you, you will need to defend yourself. I will be here throughout, so no harm will come to you. Do I have a volunteer to give it a shot?" Jake asked, looking between his students for one brave soul to step forward.

OOC Note: Jake has a trunk with the Inferi in, each student has permission to GM Jake opening the box for them only. If you character should come in to trouble, I will post my intervention as I deem fit.

PostSubject: Re: DADA - Lesson 1 (Years 6 & 7)   DADA - Lesson 1 (Years 6 & 7) EmptyThu May 08, 2014 9:58 am

Mary was ready for this. If she wouldn't be refraining herself, she'd be bouncing on the spot, like a wrestler before an important match. When Jake asked for a volunteer, her hand shot up. She was a bit nervous, but she knew the Inferi wouldn't hurt her. Not here, not now. But she was bound to come across them outside of the classroom and she wanted to know how to get rid of them.

Jake opened up the trunk and a pale body rose up from it. It looked a bit like zombies in the movies her Mom and Dad loved watching. It was far more terrifying than that, though. It approached her slowly and Mary held up her wand in front of her, gripping it tight.

She was breathing slowly, forcing herself to remain calm and she was studying the dead body. There wasn't much time, however, as the Inferi suddenly pounced towards her. Mary jumped back to get out of its reach and gave her wand a flick as she thought 'Incendio'. Flames burst from out of her wand and the witch allowed herself a second of triumph. The Inferi winced away from the fire and backed away into the trunk. Mary extinguished her wand and looked to Jake.

"Was that good?"

As Mary stepped forwards to give the spell a try, Jake was glad his apprentice (of a sort) had the courage to give it a go. "Good luck." Jake stated before opening the trunk, allowing just enough space for one creature to escape. A moment later, the disgusting creature was moving towards the Head Girl, and Jake watched carefully.

As the Inferi looked to strike, Mary was quicker and Jake could feel the smile of pride touching his lips. She was good, very good, even. And with non-verbal magic, too. Jake was impressed.

"Was that good?"

"Very good, Mary, very good!" Jake replied, nodding to her. "Who else would like to have a go?" Jake asked, looking between the rest of the students hopefully.

Charlie watched as Mary had a go at what was supposed to be in the trunk. Charlie knew this was going to be a creepy lesson and she was all for it, she loved being able to do this type of thing in class, but not when it involved.. zombies. When Jake asked who would give it a try next and Charlie thought now would be her best bet. "I'll give it a shot" Charlie volunteered. She grabbed her wand and went towards the chest.

Jake opened it up for her and Charlie kind of froze when she saw the pale like zombie figure come out of it. The red head thought it looked less scary from where she was at previously. Charlie raised her wand and took a deep breath. "Incendio" the pale like zombie went up into flames. Charlie felt like she could breathe again knowing she 'killed' that thing.

As the second Wormwood attempted the whole ordeal, Jake gave her a warm smile. Just like Mary, the witch used Incendio and the Inferi slunk back to the trunk, likely feeling sorry for itself. "Well done, Charlie, another good display." Jake praised, looking around the room.

"Who else would like to give it a shot?" The professor asked, a welcoming smile in place as he waited for the next person.

Diem watched the two Wormwoods succeed at the spell and she sat back and watched. When Jake asked for someone else to give it a shot, Diem stepped up. "I'll do it" Diem walked to a certain spot and stood there. Jake opened the trunk and out came her target. Diem felt like should could smell the death that was radiating off of it and Diem raised her wand. The other two girls used Incendio and she thought that was her best bet. "Incendio."

As Diem stepped forward, Jake gave her an encouraging nod before opening the trunk. A third Inferi climbed out, and moved towards the Nightshade, and with the same confidence it was banished back to where it had come from with the use of fire.

"Very good, Diem! Let's keep things moving, next!" Jake called, ushering the next person forwards.

Apollo watched as his fellow classmates were correct with what they were doing. When his fellow Prefect was there and succeeded, he gave a silent pat on the back to her. Apollo had never really gotten to know Diem on a personal level, but she seemed like a nice, sweet girl to hang out with. When Jake asked for the next person to come and try the assignment, Apollo stepped up to the plate. Apollo waited for Jake to open the trunk and when he did Apollo's wand was out and ready.

The Inferi came towards him and Apollo simply didn't let it bother him that the Inferi was creepy looking. "Incendio."

As Apollo moved to the front for his go, Jake watched the boy closely before opening the trunk. The Inferi moved towards the boy, readying itself for an attack, but it seemed the Nightshade was not one for hanging around as the spell came pretty quickly, shunning the Inferi back in to it's trunk.

"Very well done, Apollo!" Jake congratulated the boy, stepping in front of the trunk, the smile on his face showing he was happy with the boys contribution. "So that leaves... Michelle. When you're ready, please step up and give it a shot." Jake explained, waving her forwards.

Michellee did saw what her classmates did. She did say that fire was way of them get back to drunk and now everyone used it. She wanted to yty something else now. She wanted to be unique right now. She did take deep breath and stepped forward then.

Jake did open the drunk for then. She saw how that inferi walked solwly towards her. She at first wanted to use some other spell but she couldn't remember exactly how it was spelled so ahe decided to go as others did. "Incendio," she said and before saying sje did point wand at the inferi.

Watching Michelle take her turn, Jake reflected on how well this lesson had gone on the whole. No one passing out, or freaking out, that was a good lesson for him. As the Wormwood completed the task, Jake smiled warmly at her.

"Congratulations on completing the task everyone. This week you are free of homework due to your performance." Jake explained, flicking his wand towards the door. "You're all free to go, but if anyone needs anything, please don't hesitate to stay behind.
