PostSubject: DADA - Lesson 1 (Years 1 & 2)   DADA - Lesson 1 (Years 1 & 2) EmptyThu May 01, 2014 7:02 am

The idea of taking over Professor Finn had been presented to Jake in a letter from both schools. Apparently they deemed him capable of teaching the lesson and Jake had been more than willing to accept the role. It had been Azalea who'd helpfully pointed out that he simply wouldn't been able to juggle four days of teaching on top of his Quidditch career, so Jake had had to make a big decision on what he wanted to do.

And the answer came to him almost a moment later.

Defence Against the Dark Arts had been so much more fun to learn about, so he'd written back to the schools, asking them to transfer his job choice. Which left Jake ready for his lessons in Defence at the beginning of the year.

Nervous didn't cut it as Jake fiddled with his tie as he waited for the students to arrive. This was a big step up, but like Azalea kept telling him, he could do it. Continuing with Professor Finn's ideas, there were no tables or chairs in the classroom save his own, plenty of space to practice.

Now to simply wait for the lesson ahead of him.

Behind him on the board featured his semi legible handwriting, stating the words "Disarming Charm".

Jaden was running to make sure that she was going to get to class on time. It was strange that her sister wasn't going to be in classes. But she knew that Sadie was the school healer. When she looked around she at least seen that she wasn't late. Which was always a good thing. She couldn't help but wondered when Brayden was going to be there. The boy was on her mind a lot. But that was because he would always make her smile. She then waited for the professor.

Brayden loved DADA, it was a great subject to learn because when you were in battle and needed something to help you, you would need to learn the defense against it and this was the best class to do it. Walking in Brayden saw that the flying Professor was now this Professor. "Hey Jake, how was your summer?" He asked trying to be polite.

Ares was a little exhausted from the transportation to the school, he had stayed up during the entire ride, ate his dinner, then stayed up a bit more just goofing off with his fellow roommates in Wormwood, they had a blast but then again he always had fun with his fellow boys. Ares knew his brother would eventually hear about it since he was appointed Prefect which of course made their parents happy. Ares took a seat when he entered the room.

"Hey Jake, how was your summer?"

"Good morning, Brayden, Jaden, Ares." Jake replied, giving each of the younger students a smile in turn. "My summer was good thanks, I'm sure the three of you enjoyed them thoroughly too, though I do hope you each had a chance to glance over your books too!" He joked, knowing not everyone was going to be like his little sister.

"So, seeing as this seems to be everyone for the day, lets begin. The Disarming Charm is our topic for today. Lets see, can each of you give me a fact on the spell in question? Just one, and any information you can think of." Jake asked, looking between the students hopefully.

Brayden paid attention when Jake began the class and he got a little excited when he heard what spell they would be practicing. Brayden had read about the spell from when his parents made him read all about spells he would most likely learn in school. When Jake asked for a fact about the spell, Brayden raised his hand a bit. "Well the name speaks for itself, but nevertheless, its a spell that helps you disarm your enemy" he answered.

"Well the name speaks for itself, but nevertheless, its a spell that helps you disarm your enemy"

"Correct, Brayden." Jake replied, giving the boy a warm smile, despite his very short answer. "Five points to Belladonna. Can anyone tell me the incantation for the spell? Except Brayden, lets see what everyone else knows." The professor continued, looking around the class for some more people to participate in the class.

Ares was glad that his fellow classmate got the answer correct, it just meant that their year wasn't completely useless and you had someone from each house in the class. When Jake asked for someone who wasn't Brayden to answer what the incantation was, Ares raised his hand. He mine as well try and win some points for his house. "Expelliarmus" Ares answered. He remembered his brother telling him that once.

When the Wormwood boy, Ares, answered the question, Jake smiled happily. "Well done, Ares, five points for Wormwood." Jake replied, glad to see people knew their information. "Okay, so today, we are going to practice on dummies, they have a wand in their hands, and I want you to disarm them. The more powerful spells might even knock them backwards, but your main aim is to just disarm."

Flourishing his wand, Jake made three dummies appear in separate areas of the room. "Please move to a dummy and try the spell out. If anyone needs help, I will be walking around to assist you." Jake explained, waving them away to try the spell out.

Brayden knew that he couldn't answer the question since he already had but that didn't stop him from trying to, but he got beaten to it by the Wormwood boy. It didn't matter who answered the question as long as they go it right. When Jake told them to practice the spell out on the dummies, Brayden grabbed his wand and went to a dummy. He raised his wand and spoke. "Expelliarmus" when nothing happened he tried again. "Expelliarmus" this time the wand went flying out of the dummies hand.

Ares watched as Brayden did what he had to do and Ares looked at the dummy in front of him, it really didn't look or seem like much to work with but if it got him to pass the class then he was all for it. Ares walked over to a dummy he was now marking as his and raised his wand to the ugly thing. Ares just needed to knock the wand out of its hand but it could also knock the thing over. "Expelliarmus" Ares said, the light flew out of his wand and knocked the wand out of the dummy's hand. Ares had to duck because the wand flew right passed him.

"Sorry" he apologized for that.

Jaden then went over to a dummy to practice. She knew the spell because of Sadie's textbook, but she didn't want to say anything. Jaden then raised her wand and then made sure that she spoke clear. " Expelliarmus" At first nothing was happening because she started to cough. And she knew that was something that couldn't be avoided. Jaden wasn't going to give up and was going to try again. " Expelliarmus!" She then watched as the wand flew out of the dummy hand. She was actually proud of herself.

Watching each member take their turns, Jake nodded to himself, satisfied with their work. As one wand flew over the Wormwood's head, Jake smiled, catching it effortlessly and waving the boys apology away. "It was a good spell to do that, Ares." Jake encouraged, waiting for Jaden to take her turn.

Once everyone was finished, Jake smiled to each of them. "Okay everyone, we've covered the basics for today. The spell will get stronger with practice, though that does not mean I condone you disarming people freely. You're welcome to come up to the classroom when you have any free time and practice if you choose. Or you can set up some time with me if that is easier for you.

"But for today, that is it, everyone is free to go." Jake explained, flicking his wand towards the door to open it. "Unless anyone has any questions, of course."

Ares watched as the last student went and Jake began to speak. When Jake told him that it was a good spell for that to happen and waved off the apology, he nodded. Ares didn't want to have to get in trouble for hitting someone accidentally in the head because the wand the dummy was holding went flying. When Jake dismissed them, Ares grabbed his stuff. "See you next time Jake" Ares then left the room and continued on with his day.

Brayden listened to Jake as he dismissed the class. Brayden didn't know where he was heading to due to the fact that this was his last class, but he'd find something to do to keep him busy. The Belladonna picked up his stuff and packed it all up and just as he was finished he saw Ares saying goodbye to Jake and leaving. Brayden sent a wave to Jake as a form of saying 'goodbye' and walked out the door.
