Valentine's Day (Jari) Empty
PostSubject: Valentine's Day (Jari)   Valentine's Day (Jari) EmptyFri Oct 17, 2014 9:25 am

Valentines Day.

Jake had woken up in America feeling a little sick. Despite being very happy in a relationship, the day was one he wasn't really ready to face. Though, it seemed from the kissy selfie he'd received from Marilyn with a text saying "Happy Valentines Day xxx" that she was celebrating. He'd replied in much the same manner, wishing her happy valentines day but without a selfie as he rolled out of bed that day.

Nor, did it help when he got to Salem to see the whole castle in the spirit of the holiday. He was, however, finishing early today, some holiday or other that the students had been given.

So when he finally finished for the day, Jake had gone back home full of uncertainty. The paperwork for his immigration to the UK had started, and they'd been told it would be three months before it would be finalised. Jake was forgetting about it, mostly, though Marilyn kept bringing up different places she had seen and she'd thought might suit. Jake hadn't been overly drawn by many yet, so he'd politely told her they'd keep looking.

Marilyn...

After changing from his work suit in to something a little more comfy Jake had apparated to England, more specifically London. He'd faltered on the walk to Marilyn's as he passed a florist, nearly at closing time before he slipped in, ignoring how his heart was thumping in protest. Opening his wallet and taking out some English money he'd accumulated, Jake looked around the flowers. Nothing stood out. At. All.

"Can I help you, sir?"

"Um... I'm... I would like to buy some flowers for my girlfriend." Jake told the man, still looking around. He probably should have kept walking but something had drawn him in to the shop.

"Very good, sir, and what type were you thinking? Roses, perhaps?"

"Um..."

"Or, perhaps something else?"

"Can you..." Jake looked away from the flowers to the aging man before him. "Can you please take one of each flower and put them in a bouquet?"

"Usually we keep to two or three different flowers to compliment, sir."

"I know, I just know if I take one of everything I'll get something right. Please, one of each?" Jake insisted, watching the man move off to get the flowers. It was a short while later that Jake had paid the man an extortionate amount of money for the large bouquet, that had a small card attached.

To My Mari,

Love

Jake

xxx

It was only a short walk back to Mari's flat, and as he got to the door, Jake paused, taking a deep breath. "Everything is fine, Jake, that was her, this is Marilyn. You're going to walk in, you're going to hand her the flowers, apologise for it not being much, she's going to love them anyway, and the night will be fine. She'll be here." He told himself in nothing more than a whisper, gently opening the door and letting himself in.

"Marilyn, I'm back!" Jake called out, kicking his shoes off by the door whilst trying not to drop the bouquet. "I've got something for you, too!"

Valentine's Day (Jari) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Valentine's Day (Jari)   Valentine's Day (Jari) EmptyFri Oct 17, 2014 10:15 am

Valentines day had not featured in the witch's life since she was a little kid. Marilyn had never been dating someone over the holiday, thus had absolutely no idea what to do. She'd spent her morning working in her lab and pouring over her books. The cuffs were making progress, but she still needed more time.

Around noon she got showered and changed and began her own little Valentines 'gift' for Jake, who would be joining her before she knew it. Her 'gift' was a bit risky on her part, but to her great joy (and surprise) everything turned out perfectly. She'd decided a simple, romantic dinner for two would be nice and appropriate. So Mari had, all on her own, managed to make spaghetti carbonara and for dessert a Tatte Pistachio Cherry Tart and nothing had burnt!

When he came home the witch had finished setting the table and had lit two candles and dimmed the lighting for atmosphere. The food was already on the table under a warming charm and Marilyn brushed her curls back as she walked into the hallway where she was greeted with an interesting sight that caused pleasant surprise to riddle her features.

"Jake? Are you behind the plethora of flowers or did they decide to hijack your body as a host?" Mari quipped with a wry smile, leaning against the doorframe to the darkened dining room, "I've got a little something, too, but first I want a kiss,"

"Jake? Are you behind the plethora of flowers or did they decide to hijack your body as a host?"

Lowering the bouquet so that he could see the witch, Jake smiled sheepishly. "I brought you flowers." Jake explained unnecessarily. He'd relaxed slightly, but Merlin he was still nervous. Until this day was over and everything was fine, Jake probably wouldn't relax. He just had to hope that Marilyn wouldn't notice. "I didn't know which flower you liked the most, so I got you every flower in the store. I... hope you like it. The florist was a little sceptical at my decision..."

"I've got a little something, too, but first I want a kiss,"

Moving towards the door frame, Jake held the bouquet to the side and pressed his lips gently to Mari's. "Have you been cooking? Something smells really good..." Jake mused, stealing another kiss from the witch. "And the picture you sent me is now my phone background." He told the witch with a small smile. There, that must be saving grace for not knowing her favourite flower, mustn't it?

"Do you have a vase?" Jake asked, motioning to the flowers.

"I brought you flowers."

"I can see that," she smiled, "Thank you." As the explenation came that he had literally bought one of every flower in the shop just so that he wouldn't miss her favorite she felt a surge of affection the brought an even happier grin to the witch's features.

"You are the sweetest," Mari remarked as she kissed him back once and then twice. With a smug smirk she nodded, "I have indeed, this time with no house elf help whatsoever. And it's your favorite, if I remembered correctly."

She took him by the hand and carefully led him into the dining room, "Ta da..." she said softly, letting him take it in, "Also the wine on the table is more symbolic, there's a beer in the fridge." the witch chuckled, gently taking the flowers and putting them in three vases around the dining room.

With the thanks and the notion of being sweet, Jake simply allowed the witch that much. Arguing was not something he wanted to do, especially not over trivial things. He hadn't forgotten her words since Interrogation, and he was still confused as to why she saw him that way. He was, in his mind, just Jake, and that wasn't anything especially sweet, or anything else. Just... just Jake.

"I have indeed, this time with no house elf help whatsoever. And it's your favorite, if I remembered correctly."

Jake smiled at that, allowing Marilyn to lead him to the table, where there was indeed his favourite meal. "This... looks wonderful!" Jake commented as she explained there was a beer in the fridge. "Wine will be fine." Jake told the witch with a smile as she took the flowers and put them in vases around the room. The witch hadn't supplied what her flower was, but Jake would find out somehow.

Taking a seat at the table, Jake took the bottle of wine and poured them both a glass, waiting for Marilyn to sit down with him. "How was your day?" Jake asked, politely waiting for her to so he could start the meal. He was starving, but manners were always the forefront of his upbringing.

"This... looks wonderful!"

Marilyn beamed at his approval and flicked her wand to add some water to the vases, purposefully not yet telling him her favorite flower, though she'd spotted it in the mass of the bouquet.

The witch would enlighten him later.

Taking a seat opposite Jake she thanked him for pouring the wine and smiled at his question, "Uneventful, no breakthroughs, calm. Full of contemplating whether to...text you...whilst you're working, but I figured you could wait," the witch smirked, picking up her wine glass, "So, to us?" She proposed the toast with a satisfied smile. Then they could dig in.

PostSubject: Re: Valentine's Day (Jari)   Valentine's Day (Jari) EmptySat Oct 18, 2014 11:35 am

Listening to how Marilyn's day had been made Jake smile. She worked hard, he was quite aware, and she didn't work harder than she worked on those cuffs. Jake knew enough to know what she was attempting, but hadn't pushed further than that. It was work specified to an area he wasn't in, so likely he shouldn't know, but these things happened when you lived with someone. Or, were going to anyway.

"So, to us?"

"To us." Jake replied, gently pushing his glass against Marilyn's. Taking a small sip, Jake put the glass down. "But what were the texts I missed out on?" Jake asked, picking up his knife and fork and digging in to the food before them. His first mouthful was big, trusting Marilyn enough to just go for it.

And, he wasn't disappointed either, because it was absolutely delicious. "This..." Jake paused taking another mouthful and savouring the taste. "Is almost as amazing as you." Jake told the witch, a grin on his face at the double compliment he'd paid the witch in that moment. "Honestly, this is probably better than mom makes it." Jake added a moment later, taking another mouthful and really savouring the taste this time.

"But what were the texts I missed out on?"

"Oh, you know..." Marilyn faux shrugged it off and began eating. The perk to making the food was that she got to make her own, small, serving size. After swallowing she grinned, "Just some pictures...some texts...no big deal," Mari teased, lifting another forkful to her lips.

His compliments made her grin and finally laugh, "I'm glad you like it, though I doubt it's as good as your mom's. if the christmas dinner was any standard to go by I'll never catch up to her, but thank you." Twirling more pasta onto her fork she let him finish before asking, "How was your day? Hand out any detention?" The words were lighthearted and teasing, Marilyn was well aware that Jake wasn't really the punishing type, but it was fun to tease.

And it brought images to mind that she decided were probably better for another time. The slightly flush of her cheeks was the only betrayed of her thoughts.

"Just some pictures...some texts...no big deal,"

Jake raised an eyebrow at that, definitely not believing her for a second that it was no big deal. But, he didn't comment, he didn't wish to make himself look like an idiot, so he just mused in his head.

The comment on his mom made Jake laugh. "That's her job... in a way. She stays at home all day and does the housework. But, honestly, I think this is better than hers." Jake replied, really meaning the compliment. It didn't seem like she was going to believe him though.

"How was your day? Hand out any detention?"

"It was okay. Salem seems to have lost it's... umph. You know? Since... since the attacks." Jake admitted, he didn't enjoy teaching at Salem as much as he used to, but he was sure it would pick up soon. Hopefully, anyway. "And you know I don't give out detentions." He added, though it wasn't necessary.

"I'm just glad to be back with you, today, despite being a half day, dragged like anything!" He admitted, shrugging slightly as he lifted his glass to his lips and took a mouthful of the liquid. After placing the glass back down on the table, Jake paused, trying to think of the right way to ask his next question. "I... haven't done this before." Jake admitted softly, glancing up at Marilyn slightly. "Did you... do you want me to take you out this evening? Or... What would you like to do when we've finished dinner?" He finished with, hoping she would forgive him for not knowing, this was the first time he'd celebrated Valentine's Day, and he had no clue what Marilyn was expecting from him.

Valentine's Day (Jari) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Valentine's Day (Jari)   Valentine's Day (Jari) EmptySat Oct 18, 2014 12:33 pm

Marilyn was quiet, not letting her concern show as her playful banter went straight over his head. Something was off, very off, with Jake. He didn't seem as relaxed as he usually would be, nor was he flirting like he usually did, every joke just bounced off him.

As he continued to talk the concern did furrow the witch's eyebrows slightly, tilting her head, eyes crinkling critically in thought as he took another sip of his drink. But soon an answer, or part of an answer, came from the wizard and it clicked in Marilyns brain.

"Did you... do you want me to take you out this evening? Or... What would you like to do when we've finished dinner?"

Marilyn shook her head and stood from her seat, walking around to his side of the table and carefully situating herself to sit on his lap, her hands cupping his face, "Please, relax," she murmured, "I've never done this before, either. I just want to be with you. Is this what's bothering you? Because you seem so off today and I'm getting a little concerned?" Each remark was punctuated with a gently kiss to his cheek, his other cheek, his forehead and finally his lips, looking into his eyes. Her hands moved from his face to gently ub his shoulders.

When the witch stood up, Jake lifted his eyes to Marilyn once more, worried about where she was going. Had he said something wrong? Probably, his head chimed in reply, not helping him in the slightest. Though it was rather unnecessary as Marilyn situated herself in his lap and cupped his face.

"Please, relax,"

"I'm fine." Jake replied softly, though, that was a lie. But, he was trying to be fine, so that probably counted for something, didn't it? The part that followed made Jake look away, even as Marilyn kissed him, she knew, of course she knew. But Jake didn't have a clue if the truth was better. Today of all days, the truth could not be better.

But then... honesty hadn't proven to hurt them. Honesty had proven to help them.

"If..." Jake started before shaking his head. It was no use asking her not to laugh, this was Marilyn, she wouldn't laugh at him. "I was... a little bit scared that you wouldn't be here when I arrived." Jake admitted, still not looking in to her eyes because he couldn't. "I didn't know if the flowers would be enough... and I really don't know how I'm supposed to show you that you... I'm used to ignoring the existence of Valentine's Day, and after last year I was all for ignoring it forever. But... but now I have you, and I tried, but I think I messed up. I... have messed up now, anyway." Jake told her, his jaw setting as her hands moved to his shoulders that were much more tense than they really should have been.

Jake leant his head on the witch's shoulder, closing his eyes and letting out a heavy sigh. "I'm so sorry." He whispered, quite evidently annoyed with himself because he didn't need to be told he'd screwed up.

Valentine's Day (Jari) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Valentine's Day (Jari)   Valentine's Day (Jari) EmptySat Oct 18, 2014 1:09 pm

"I was... a little bit scared that you wouldn't be here when I arrived."

"...this is my flat. Why would I not be in my flat?" She asked, confused by his words and fears, but in no way did her tone implicate that his fear was silly; she took him seriously. As always. Further words followed and Marilyn's puzzled expression turned to some measure of understanding. Or the attempt to anyhow. Especially after last year...what had happened last- oh. Oh. Oh no.

"But... but now I have you, and I tried, but I think I messed up. I... have messed up now, anyway."

In Marilyns head the sentences read as 'But now I have you and I tried but you're not her.'

So this uneasiness was because of...well, her. Marilyn for her part generally tried to ignore her existence and her past role in Jake's life for two simple reasons. One, because she had been the one to introduce them indirectly and now Marilyn was dating her ex and that was awkward on so many levels. And two, whilst Marilyn didn't know the details of the end, and didn't want to know, she knew enough. And that was enough to plan a tiny, tiny, tiny seed of doubt in her mind, like she was only second best and would always only be second best.

"I'm so sorry."

He was sorry... Marilyn felt her breath catch in her throat. Oh Merlin, this was her worst nightmare. Was he upset because he missed her? And this holiday had reminded him of that? Was he sorry that he'd let this continue on? Oh God, but he'd told her he loved her. They were moving in together? Was that all just because he couldn't have...better? Was she a consolation prize, she just wanted to make him happy she loved him, more than anyone.

Oh Merlin, Oh Merlin, Oh-

"Merlin, I- I- I think I'm going to be sick." Marilyn pried herself free and quickly walked to the bathroom, her face hidden by her hair and her voice shaken. Finally in the bathroom she fell to her knees before the toilet but nothing happened, it was just the feeling. Her lungs constricting, stomach churning, throat choking up. All the symptoms of having to throw up or having a panic attack.

"Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God," she murmured to herself, pressing one palm to her forehead, all she wanted was Jake to come in and reassure her.

"...this is my flat. Why would I not be in my flat?"

"I know... I just... It was silly of me... I'm sorry." Jake told the witch gently. Telling her that was probably not his best decision, because she didn't understand. Though, that was his fault. He hadn't spoken to anyone about that, so she couldn't know. Merlin he was making a mess, such a mess. He didn't want a mess. Deciding to ask the witch to ignore him and they could continue dinner, Jake opened his mouth to speak.

But instead of words of his own, he felt the witch tense up on his lap, for what reason he wasn't sure...

"Merlin, I- I- I think I'm going to be sick."

Before he could comprehend the sentence, Marilyn was gone. Hurrying towards the bathroom. Jake simply managed to blink once before he was on his feet hurrying after the witch. "Marilyn?" Jake called after her, catching up with her just as she sunk to her knees before the toilet.

"Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God,"

Sinking to his knees beside the witch, Jake gently lifted her hair from her face, his free hand gently rubbing her back. "Marilyn... are you okay?" Jake asked, the worry quite clear on his face. He didn't know why there was this sudden reaction, but he was worried, as he should be. "Do you want me to get you anything? Some water, maybe?" He asked, continuing to rub circles on her back to help. Hopefully it would help, anyway.

Marilyn flinched when he touched her and pulled away slightly, both from the toilet and from him, trying to stop damn near hyperventilating.

"Do you love me? I mean, I'm serious, tell me if you mean it, because if I'm just second best to you because you can't have her then- then just say that." The witch was just staring at her tiled floor and her head was spinning and she thought perhaps this was what a heart attack feels like.

"And God, if that's not what you meant then say that, because that's- that's what it sounds like so if you're sorry you let us get this far then- then you are really fucking- You- I love you,"
the last three words made her voice break slightly.

It stung, really hard, when Marilyn flinched from his touch. There were no words to describe it, if Jake was honest, other than it hurt much, much more than he would have realised. Pulling his hand away from the witch, Jake simply waited for her to say something.

"Do you love me? I mean, I'm serious, tell me if you mean it, because if I'm just second best to you because you can't have her then- then just say that."

That... was not what Jake had expected. And, for more than a moment, he didn't have a clue who 'her' was. It hit him hard though as he realised what Marilyn was speaking of. Azalea. Jake hadn't thought of the witch in a vast number of months, and in honesty, even today hadn't brought her forward. She was the past, not coming back, he didn't want her back. "I... I told you this, Marilyn." Jake whispered, the hurt that she could accuse him of such things clearly written on his face. "I love you. You're... You've never been second best."

"And God, if that's not what you meant then say that, because that's- that's what it sounds like so if you're sorry you let us get this far then- then you are really fucking- You- I love you,"

"I meant... oh, Mari." Jake leant forward, pressing his lips firmly to hers. "I'm not sorry about anything we have. I meant, I'm sorry I didn't make today better for you. You deserve more than... than flowers. But I didn't know... How you do this. And, now, I've made my girlfriend believe that she isn't enough for me. We're sat on the bathroom floor for fucks sake. I'm sorry. You deserved better than this."

Taking a deep breath, Jake looked in the witch's eyes. "I love you, Marilyn. You're first, second and every number to follow." He told her seriously, his eyes were stinging from the inward battle he was having with himself, but he refused to let that build. "Please don't think otherwise, I'm... I'm sorry if I made you think otherwise..."

"I meant... oh, Mari."

He pressed his lips to hers and she kissed him back, her arms going around his neck as she kissed him back passionately, pulling close to him. And when he began explaining she buried her face in his neck, holding on close as she cried. But it wasn't normal crying, it was dry, just dry sobs that came out of a mixture of self-loathing and relief.

"...But I didn't know... How you do this. And, now, I've made my girlfriend believe that she isn't enough for me. We're sat on the bathroom floor for fucks sake. I'm sorry. You deserved better than this."

She shook her head and looked back up at him without letting him go, "No, no this wasn't all your fault I always- I wasn't enough for my parents, I'm not enough for Evan, I was never enough in any of my relationships I just- I get so used to not being enough that I assumed..."

"I love you, Marilyn. You're first, second and every number to follow."

"I love you, too, so much,
" Marilyn kissed him again and cuddled him close, unable to find the right words, "I'm so sorry for freaking out. I'm sorry."

As the witch pulled him closer, Jake knew he hadn't completely messed up. He had messed up, he was aware of that, but not to a breaking point of messing up. Pulling the witch in to his lap as he began to explain himself, Jake sat against the bath, hoping she would calm down. But the crying started, and Jake had to bite his lip to stop himself from joining in. Both of them in a mess would not help.

"No, no this wasn't all your fault I always- I wasn't enough for my parents, I'm not enough for Evan, I was never enough in any of my relationships I just- I get so used to not being enough that I assumed..."

"I'm not any of them." Jake reminded her softly, pressing his lips to the top of her head. "You mean a lot to me, Mari. You're one of my best friends, and my girlfriend." Jake whispered as she dry sobbed. "Please don't cry, Mari..." He added, though he knew it had to come out, she needed to let this out.

"I'm so sorry for freaking out. I'm sorry."

"It's fine." Jake told her, simply holding the witch close. "It's all going to be fine." It was a promise, they were going to be okay. They sat quietly for a few moments before Jake gently sat her up so Marilyn could see him.

"I don't hold any feelings for her anymore, okay?" Jake asked the witch, because he really wanted to make this clear. "She's my past, she's staying in my past. But you," Jake lifted his hand tenderly to Mari's cheek. "You're my present and my future, Mari. Please... if you believe nothing else in the world just believe that." It was probably going to take a while for Marilyn to believe, and Jake couldn't hold that against her. Tenderly, Jake brought his lips back to Marilyn's, there was simply nothing more he could say, but he knew he could show her that she meant a lot to him.

PostSubject: Re: Valentine's Day (Jari)   Valentine's Day (Jari) EmptySat Oct 18, 2014 2:55 pm

Letting him pull her onto his lap she curled up and listened to is reassuring words and as she calmed down she felt an overwhelming sense of immense stupidity and blatant idiocy on her part. A shameful insecurity. She could just hear her grandfather scolding her. Caldwells didn't feel insecure, most certainly not about themselves.

"I feel so...stupid, there's no logical reason to feel so insecure," she shook her head, "I love you and I know you love me I just..." she sighed, he knew what she meant, what she felt. Even if she couldn't quite explain it now.

"You're my present and my future, Mari. Please... if you believe nothing else in the world just believe that."

The witch nodded and pressed her lips to his again, pulling him in close for a deep kiss, "Show me," she whispered, kissing him again, "Take me to bed," Another kiss, "And show me, please..."

This was probably not how to normally handle this kind of thing, but Marilyn didn't give a damn, this was what she needed, wanted. So that was what she asked for.

"I feel so...stupid, there's no logical reason to feel so insecure,"

"You're not stupid." Jake whispered to the witch, still holding her close to him. "Everyone has insecurities. They're... normal." He assured her, whether she would agree was a different matter, but he was hoping she'd understand through that that he wasn't upset by them, wasn't going to run away from them. They happened, Jake was very aware of that.

As his lips touched hers, Jake felt her pulling him closer, deepening the kiss for a moment before she asked him to show her. He panicked momentarily, not sure how he was going to show her that she was everything to him, but her next words explained how.

"Take me to bed," Another kiss, "And show me, please..."

Nodding once, Jake gently lifted her up from the floor and carried her in to the bedroom, motioning to Jagger that she was okay as he closed the bedroom door and moved to the bed, lying the witch down gently on the bed. His first kiss was very hesitant because he wasn't sure that this was the best way of dealing, but as he kissed her, Jake knew that for now, if this was what she wanted, he wouldn't say no.

The remainder of the evening, Jake spent every second carefully showing the witch what she meant to him. Kissing, caressing and appreciating every millimetre of her body, until he was quite sure that she knew that he meant every word he'd told her in the bathroom. To the point of exhaustion, Jake didn't relax, kissing her entire body even after he'd made love to her, holding her hand and telling her softly again and again that she meant the world to him, that he loved her and nobody would change that.

Even as he fell asleep with his head on her chest, Jake managed to tell her one last time he loved her, his voice heavy from sleep, but each word coherent enough to understand.
