Personality: Zara is intelligent and quick witted but can sometimes be an air head. She is a people person and an animal lover. She hates bullies and injustice and always sides with the underdog.
Background:
Zara is a muggle born witch from Germany. Her mom was a squib, her dad is a Muggle, and her grandmother is a major part of her life. Long before Zara was born, her grandmother was a major player in the war in Germany. When her husband was killed, she faked her death and fled to the United States with her daughter. Zara's mother later returned to Germany, for her schooling, where she met her husband and would later have Zara. Zara was born in the United States, while her parents were visiting her grandmother, and holds duel citizenship in both Germany and America.
Zara's mother was killed when she was eight years old, by some rogue wizards who had a grudge against her grandmother. The only thing that saved Zara and her father is that they were gone for the day. Zara found her mother's body in the kitchen, when she returned from the Muggle primary school that she was attending, and as a result she had night terrors for a few years, only stopping about a year after she began attending Durmstrang. Her father was barely able to function, when her mom died, and immersed himself in work, causing her to become very independent at a young age. He tried his best to be there for her but when her powers started showing themselves, he didn't know how to handle them. She was already spending a couple of weeks in the summer with her grandmother, each year, so she decided to stay there longer, to learn more from her grandmother.
Zara attended Muggle schools in both the US and Germany before being invited to Salem Academy, in the United States, and Durmstrang, in Germany, and chose the latter. Her first day there, she met Alys, who ended up being her best friend and helped teach her ways to control her night terrors. The girls spent all the time that they could together, Zara getting them in to trouble more often than not. They alternated between her grandmother's place and Alys' parents place during the summer, each year.
Zara's most defining moment was the summer before her sixth year of school when the same rogue wizards, who killed her mother, followed her and Alys from Germany to the US and attacked the girls in the airport, intending on finishing her grandmother's family line. The girls were able to subdue and capture them, and the authorities arrested them on the charges of attempted murder and kidnapping, in the United States, as well as the murder of her mother, in Germany. However, she did not escape unscathed. The wizards used the Cruciatus curse on her a couple of times and as a result her night terrors returned, worse than ever. Alys, who was living with her after her own parent's death, was barely able to help her through that, especially when Zara was almost expelled from school for using magic underage, and she wasn't able to be there for her. Eventually, Zara was able to return and finish her schooling with Alys and her friends, finishing second in her class, only behind Alys.
When Alys married her school sweetheart and they had their daughter, Shiera (which Zara is a proud doting Godmother to) she left for the United States in search for higher learning and her calling. She frequently visits her grandmother, in Carmel, California, and visits her dad and Alys when she returns to Germany for the holidays. Zara is strong willed and is unafraid of everything at a borderline unhealthy level. She often talks to Alys, who helps keep her grounded. She enjoys verbal sparring, practical jokes, and chocolate; loves Quiddich, flying (she can't apparate worth a damn), and helping her grandmother create spells (which usually only happens after she embarrassingly messes one up); hates bullies and vegetables; and is fluent in German, English, and Spanish.
