The Prefect's Handbook
which covers almost everything you need to know about being a prefect at any of the three magical schools at HAF

So you've been chosen as your House prefect? Congratulations! You must either be a very good student or have earned the respect of your school teachers and Head in some other way to land this position. Give yourself a pat on the back!

So, how did you end up becoming a prefect? Well, here is the HAF criteria we use as well as number of positions allocated annually. When you think "prefect", the following should be able to come to mind:

  • Only students who are in fifth year or above are allowed to apply for a prefectorial position
  • HAF only takes two prefects from each House (not including Head Boy and Girl of each school)
  • We do not pick the two prefects based on gender (both prefects being girls, for example, is fine)
  • Prefects are usually granted the position when they have shown to be both exceptional students and role players. Prefect's are chosen by the staff and appointed via Private Message. If you have been made a prefect and do not want the post, you are free to decline.
  • Once appointed, you remain a prefect until you graduated unless 1. You get sacked from your post or 2. you go on to become Head Boy or Girl
  • Only one prefectorial position per handler is allowed

Cool, so what do prefects do? Well, you have the unlimited powers to boss other students around XD But in all seriousness, prefects do enjoy certain perks such as

  • Being able to stay up later than regular students
  • Being able to represent their school at international events
  • Being granted the freedom to travel between schools
  • Being entitled to using the shiny, sparkly, clean and luxurious prefect's bathroom
  • In addition to the above, Prefects also get a sparkly badge

It should be noted that Head Boys and Girls are also entitled to all the above and they also get additional facilities such as:

  • Their own private Dorms
  • Unrestricted access to the Restricted Section of the Library
  • A personal Elf to mind their dorms
  • Part time jobs/apprenticeship facilities

Important note: Heads are usually chosen from the rank of seventh year prefects but there are times when a sixth year is chosen as head (at the school's discretion) in which case he/she has two years in office.

Needles to say, all the prefect and Head's privileges are only for the sake of role playing. Prefects may neither award nor deduct points - that duty only lies with professors. But feel free to role play a prefect taking away points. It just won't be counted in the House Point threads.

As usual, if you have any questions about being a Prefect or Head Boy/Girl, feel free to PM Tess Holmes and she will get back to you in a tick!

Sincerely
HAF Staff
