Desdemona sat down on one of the big, black couches that sat by the fireplaces in the dim green light of the Slytherin common room. She couldn't help but smile and feel at home here, under the castle. There was something peaceful about their dormitories that kept Desdemona at ease every night. She was immensely glad that Hogwarts had asked her to attend and was actually looking forward to next year; her fourth, her brother's first. Artemis is going to love this, I just hope he's in Slytherin too. Desdemona thought of him and knew he would be just like her, and their parents, and their parents' parents... after all, they were Malfoys by blood. She chuckled and picked up her newest Potions book before carefully opening it to the right dog-eared page and settling in to her reading.

It had been a long day, but Tristan was not exactly ready for bed; there had been quite a few assignments and homework given by the Professors, and he wanted to get a start on them so he would have more time on the weekend. Heading down from his dorms, his stuff tucked underneath one arm, he made his way over to the fireplace - his favourite place by which to study.

First on his list was Herbology, and he sighed; while lessons were interesting, he did not particularly fancy plants, and found essays on them dull. Taking a seat on one of the couches, he dumped his stack of books onto the table in front of him and picked out the Herbology text-book. It was only then that he caught sight of the person next to him - Desdemona, if he remembered correctly - and offered her a smile. While he had seen her in classes and around the common room, they had never really talked much before.

Desdemona peered over her Potions book at the boy that came into the common room and sat down. His name didn't come to her mind, so she bit her tongue, not really wanting to say anything wrong. "Did you get the Herbology homework?" she settled on asking. She would talk about what she knew, at least. And he had been the only Slytherin in that class, which meant he was the one she was most likely to speak to and actually put effort into possibly knowing.

"Did you get the Herbology homework?"

He looked up from his book. "I think so. It's not too hard. I just don't like writing essays," he said with a smile. "I'm Tristan, by the way." He hoped she would introduce herself as well, just so he'd know if he got her name right or not; he was most definitely not going to attempt a guess.

Shifting in his chair to get into a position that was more comfortable, he crossed his legs, placing the thick Herbology book open in his lap as he reached over to grab the quill and ink. "What about you? How s your homework getting on?"

Desdemona was glad he said his name and immediately responded. "I'm Desdemona... I finished that essay just before you came in. Now I'm trying to work out the Draught of the Living Death for Potions." To be honest, Desdemona didn't mind the schoolwork - she liked learning more and growing stronger in her skills. And Potions was her favourite class. "Are we the only two Slytherins in that Herbology class?" She looked at Tristian, fiddling with the edge of her book. She didn't really like having classes with other Houses, but couldn't say anything because it was Hogwarts and after Dumbledore, there was a lot less stress about being a pureblood than there should have been... in Desdemona's opinion, at least.
