Visiting over theHolidays (Vallegra) Empty
PostSubject: Visiting over theHolidays (Vallegra)   Visiting over theHolidays (Vallegra) EmptyThu Oct 02, 2014 11:17 am

It may be December but that made no difference in the heart of Mexico; San Miguel de Allende, home of the Montez family. Not only was San Miguel one of the largest LGBT friendly cities in Mexico, it was also the largest wizarding living area next to Mexico City. Being a Squib Raphael and his family had always lived there, even after he'd been thrown out of his parents' home at sixteen he'd been able to stay at friends' houses until one day, much much later, he'd married the muggle Alma from Mexico City and they'd lived together in San Miguel since then. And with two magical daughters, only one of whom they knew for certain was magic, San Miguel was simply perfect.

The family of three lived in a house with  one family, in a two story building squeezed between two others with a small courtyard in the middle of the first floor where the gardens were. Not that the gardens were confined to that area. Vines grew out of one window (Allegra's) and there was moss all over the floor of the courtyard provinding a soft place to sit or step. Not to mention the vines growing up the bare brick wall of Allegra's bedroom, the mossy stones that served at seating opportunies on her floor or the magical moss carpet (self cleaning!) at the foot of the bed.

Allegra's room was on the second floor, right at the front of the building and to get up and down there was a narrow, winding staircase, railing covered with curling vines, and the room next to hers was the common room/living room area for all the families. Across from her room was her parents room and downstairs there was a large kitchen, used by all the families, that was always very clean despite the number of people that ate there. On the diagonal opposite was Sofia's room, the white door locked.

On the ground floor when one came in one saw a bright open spaced hallway that led straight to the courtyard with doors leading to the bathrooms (one for each family) which were marked with name signs, and the door leading to the second and family's rooms. The walls of the house inside were all either bright orange, bright blue or bare brick, but each room had a cheery atmosphere and was well lit at all hours of the day.

The courtyard was full of magical and non magical plants, mostly tended to by Raphael, Allegra and Alma, and was wonderfully suited for eating in as well. Raphael, who was something of a carpenter/handyman, had carved Alma a beautiful wooden bench once for her birthday and for christmas a table to go with it and there the family ate most of the time.

The family they lived with consisted of Armando, Raphael's best friend, who was six foot five, very muscular and a metal charmer; his boyfriend of twenty years Jack, who was equally tall and muscular and a potions master from Texas; and Carla, their six year old, adopted, squib daughter, whom Allegra sometimes babysat.

And when Allegra arrived in London Armando was there to pick her up and apparate her home, just after saying goodbye to her friends, where the sun was just rising, around five AM. The warmth of the air encompassed her and brought a grin to her face, running straight into her parents' arms who were waiting in the doorway for her and Lupa.

A few days into the holidays, before the 24th, which was when they celebrated Christmas, Allegra woke up at five, again, full of excitement. She got ready and watered her plants, had breakfast with her parents and Armando before her mother and Armando left to their workplaces. Alma was the assistent manager at a local hotel and sometimes worked long hours, sometimes even weekends, but today she would be home at around five thirty. At six AM Allegra and Lupa helped George get Carla ready for her day care center.

By eight in the morning Allegra was already done properly tending the garden with her father, who'd then moved on to prep the kitchen for chocolate making. In her letter she'd written Victoria she'd given her the floo address of George's potions shop so he could just take her home with him when she arrived, which should be any minute now.

The discussion of going to see Allegra in the holidays had not been a discussion for very long. After positively squeeing over the idea, Victoria had written to her parents asking if it would be okay to head down to Mexico for a day, she'd stay over and head back the next morning, because when her mom had written back she'd kindly reminded the witch that Christmas was a busy time and she shouldn't stay too long.

They'd finalised the details shortly after, with Victoria being transported via a Floo network of Jack's potions shop. Victoria didn't know the man, but he sounded cool from what Allegra had told her.

When the day had arrived, Victoria had picked out a summer dress, despite the cold of Minnesota, and her hair was curled gently around her face. When the time came for her to leave, with a small rucksack full of clothes and food and Mr Snuggles, Victoria bounced in to the flames, announcing quite clearly where she'd like to be. It was a few moments before she landed, but there, in front of her stood a large man stood before her. "You must be Victoria! I'm Jack, Allegra's Uncle." The man told her in a voice much too soft for his size. Victoria, however, didn't notice and simply grinned up at the man. He passed her a small brush, stating it was to brush off the dust, which Victoria did quickly, letting out a soft thank you for the thoughtful gesture.

"Hi!" She managed, excitement radiating off of her as the man told her to follow him, which she did, skipping alongside him. Or... at least until they hit the heat outside and the witch was almost knocked off her feet. But she didn't let it show, simply grinning as she took in the colour, making sure to stay close to the man beside her as they navigated the streets. Jack helpfully pointed out a few places that were of interest, and the witch took them in greedily until finally they stood before a front door.

"Come on in, Allegra will be waiting." Jack told her.

"Thank you!" Victoria responded, following him through the door a little shyly as she looked for her friend in the room. Jack left, obviously going to do whatever it was he needed, and Victoria noticed as the man disappeared that Allegra was moving towards another room off of the hallway. "Allegra!" Victoria greeted, her tone thoroughly excited to see the witch as she kicked off her shoes and hurried to hug the older witch close. "How are you?" She asked as she pulled away, smiling warmly as she took in the room. "Mexico is so cool! And hot, much, much hotter than I thought it would be!"

"Victoria!" Allegra grinned and ran into her friends arms, hugging her excitedly, "I'm great, I'm so happy to be back home, but even better now my best friend is here! How are you, did you get here alright? And don't worry, it's nice and cool in all of the rooms, let's go to the kitchen, my papa is so excited to meet you-" Allegra grinned, leading her best friend to the kitchen where she was promptly cut off by a grinning Raphael who came forward to hug Victoria as she entered the kitchen, "My daughter has told us so much about you! I am Raphael, you may call me Rapha, Allegra says you'd like to make some chocolate, yes?"

The man spoke with a heavy accent and stumbling grammar, but it was understandable enough and as warm as the sun. One could see where Allegra got her demeanor from, the whole house radiated happines. Jack reappeared soon with a crooked grin, popping his head in, "What's this I hear about chocolate?" flicking his wand to summon some fruit from the basket on the table to take with him he added, "Save me some, por favor, I'm going to take a nap. Carlita's been keeping me up all week." The man gave Allegra a kiss atop her head as he passed and left again, leaving a nodding Raphael in the kitchen with the girls.

"How about I prepare the things we need and you show our guest the house, querida?"
Allegra nodded eagerly, smiling at Victoria, "Would you like to see the house?"

Victoria was grinning when Allegra said she was happier now she was here, she felt much the same way too. "I'm fine, thank you! The trip was amazing, you see little flashes of so many people's houses, it's quite interesting. And then, obviously, I met Jack, who was lovely and gave me a brush to get the dust off, though I expect I missed some somewhere!" She explained excitedly, Flooing was so much fun!

As Allegra showed her in to the kitchen, Victoria took in the quaint little house before her. It didn't matter to her how these things looked, because honestly everything was perfect!

"My daughter has told us so much about you! I am Raphael, you may call me Rapha, Allegra says you'd like to make some chocolate, yes?"

The man that stood before her was like the sun, cheerful, welcoming, warm. Victoria didn't miss a beat with how Allegra's father looked, it didn't matter, but his shirt... his shirt was absolutely awesome. "It's very nice to meet you, Rapha." Victoria replied, copying the way he said his name perfectly in her soft voice. "Allegra has told me so much about yourself and her mommy. Not to mention the chocolate! We've been waiting for ages to make chocolate because Hogwarts doesn't like students going in to the kitchen! I love your t-shirt by the way, where did you get that?" Victoria asked, because she would very much like a matching one if she could get one.

Just then, Jack reappeared, and Victoria smiled warmly at the man as the exchange happened. The witch simply nodded when he asked them to save some of the chocolate, that she would most definitely do, because they'd need to save some for Allegra's mommy.

"Would you like to see the house?"

"Definitely!" Victoria replied with a warm smile. "I can drop my bag in your room too, then, if that's okay?" She added, pointing to the pink rucksack on her back.

Raphael laughed and it was full and enveloping, warm as everything else he did, "Thank you, Victoria, I got it at the thrift store down the street, perhaps Allegra can show you sometime. I'll prepare here, you girls go have fun exploring the house, I'll call when thing's are ready," the man kissed his daughter on the head before she grinned at Victoria, positively bouncing off.

"Sure, Victoria, follow me!" Allegra grinned, leading her friend into the hall and pointing at the doors opposite the kitchen, "This is the bathroom. Next to it is Jack and Armando's room, Carla's is behind it, she's so cute, she's six, you'll meet everyone at dinner time I think. Then up here..." Allegra led up the winding starcase.

"There are plants pretty much everywhere, but they don't get in the way really, you get used to them." the girl explained as they reached the top, "That's the living room," she pointed at the open door at the end of the hallways, "And this is my room." Allegra added, not mentioning the door opposite it.

Opening the door Lupa came bounding out, jumping with excitement around the girls' feet and Allegra quickly scooped her up, pressing a kiss to the dogs head, "Come on in," she smiled, "I hope you don't mind sharing the bed, again." Spoken more out of politeness than anything else, seeing as the two girls often shared in their dorm out of comfort.

The information that the shirt came from the thrift store was deflating, not because it was a thrift store, Victoria loved that idea, but she was aware that a thrift store was only likely to have one, which meant she most likely wasn't going to get one. But, she really liked the t-shirt on Raphael, so it didn't matter that she wouldn't get her own.

When they were dismissed, in a manner, Victoria bounced off after Allegra, taking all the rooms in as she was told about them. It didn't take much for the witch to keep up, she was very, very good at absorbing information when she was given it. "I'm looking forward to meeting everyone. Your daddy is so sweet! And talkative!" Victoria replied at the notion of meeting everyone at dinner time.

"There are plants pretty much everywhere, but they don't get in the way really, you get used to them."

"Having plants everywhere is cool! Mommy only has them in the garden, unless daddy brings her some pretty cut flowers home." Victoria explained. Alexis liked her house being just so, so plants were for outside, which was also, just so. As the rooms we're pointed out, Victoria noted that Allegra didn't explain the door opposite. Her natural inquisitive nature told her to ask, but she figured her friend probably had a reason for not sharing, so Victoria left it, instead focusing on the small animal that appeared a moment later. "Lupa!" Victoria acknowledged the Chihuahua, petting the dog's head gently once Allegra had picked her up.

"I hope you don't mind sharing the bed, again."

"Of course not, it's just the same as Hogwarts!" The witch replied happily, following the witch in to the room, and putting her bag next to Allegra's bed. But, she paused as she noted the moss rug, her eyes going wide. "Is this..." Victoria paused, reaching down to touch the soft moss, a smile playing on her lips. "This is wonderful! Did you buy it, or did you grow it by yourself?" The witch asked, looking up at Allegra for answers.

"I'm looking forward to meeting everyone. Your daddy is so sweet! And talkative!"

"Yeah he's great, and so is everyone else. My mama is really strong, and smart. I've never met anyone as smart as her." Allegra nodded proudly with a beaming smile. Her parents were her idols, role models in every aspect of her life.

Pleased that her best friend didn't mind the fact that they'd be sharing a bed Allegra felt her usual contentment bubble into joy.

"This is wonderful! Did you buy it, or did you grow it by yourself?"

"My old herbology teacher grew it for me for my birthday and I've kept it growing ever since." The young witch explained happily, sitting cross legged on the large carpet, her fingers threading through the softness ofthe moss and it, being magical, seemed to respond positively to her touch, bring a small smile to her gentle features.

"Yeah he's great, and so is everyone else. My mama is really strong, and smart. I've never met anyone as smart as her."

Victoria beamed at that knowledge, deciding that she was going to really like Allegra's mom too. Knowledge was something the younger Hufflepuff thrived on, and she most certainly wasn't going to waste an opportunity to learn more. "She sounds amazing!" Victoria insisted happily as they settled on the bedroom floor, and she meant it.

The knowledge on the moss rug made Victoria smile. "That's so wonderful! And thoughtful, you've done an amazing job growing it so vastly. I remember a few years ago, my old Care of Magical Creatures professor got me a present, you know my pink quill? It's from a very rare bird he saw on his travels. He presented it to me, but I've used it so much now it's beginning to split. I'm going to have to buy a new one after the holidays. At least yours is sustainable!" Victoria offered, a grin on her lips.

"I know that my mom would never ever let me have one though. She's insistent on things being really, really clean, and obviously this isn't ideal. But, I really love the feature." Victoria explained, captivated by the rug as she ran her fingers over it gently. "I'm going to guess all the plants around the house are yours in some manner or another then?" Victoria asked, she knew Allegra was keen on plants, but that didn't mean it was limited to her best friend.
