Today's class will be in the form of a maze, as you may have already guessed. The objective is to reach the middle past four different obstacles. Each obstacle will be given once you complete the one before, and the team will only be able to move on through a team effort.

It should be noted that this lesson will not be marked based on perfection of characters, but marked solely on development and realism of the writing.

Every team member will be given up to FORTY points for participation (you will be marked separately so work hard!), being TEN points maximum for each stage.

You are welcome to explore characterisation throughout, and PM each other or myself with questions and ideas you may have.

If, at any point, you are having difficulties with the task, you need only point your wand to the sky and shoot sparks and you will be removed from the task.

Good luck!

Your first task: Get through the attacking bush into the clearing beyond. It will try to bind you, and stop you from getting through. What the bush is, is down to personal preference, and how you defeat it is up to your group.

Tess was not fond of group work, not at all, all the more if it meant with younger years. But there was one silver lining; she took comfort in knowing that she was with Rhian for this exercise. Yes the little Ravenclaw was attached to them, but even that was more reliable than other people she'd worked with before. Smiling at Rhian she nudged her softly and turned to face the kid. If her best friend thought that the boy was good enough to talk about, she figured as the Head Girl she should try to help him out too. After all, she wasn't fond of a child getting hurt on her watch.

"I'm Tess by the way, sorry for not introducing myself" she said as kindly as she could.

Looking at the instructions, she knew that they would have to figure out exactly how to go through the maze successfully and as a group, which mattered. Shuffling through the area, she wished she had worn pants, boots or trainers instead of her flats, but she powered through, figuring there was no use to complain out loud.

"I think I see a clearing" she called out, waiting for them to catch up.

"Hi," she whispered. "Ready to have some fun?"

Finley had slightly jumped at the sound of a soft voice beside him, looking up at the Gryffindor who now stood beside him. She was pretty, very pretty, and that only made the Ravenclaw more nervous. "I-I think so." Finley managed after a moment, trying to look more sure of those feelings than he really did.

But it didn't much matter, because the professor had started talking a moment later, and Finley turned his attention to the Quidditch star. Well, ex-Quidditch star. The confidence that exhumed from the man was amazing, but Finley managed to keep from squeeing over the man. Instead, he readied himself for the lesson. When the instructions were finished, Finley readied himself to get going.

"I'm Tess by the way, sorry for not introducing myself"

"F-Finley." The boy replied, pointing to himself in explanation that that was his name. He'd never been a big talker, especially with two older, beautiful girls. Instead, Finley just followed Tess along the bushes, taking out his wand, not that it was much use. When she said it looked like she'd found a gap, Finley darted in to it. Quite quickly.

Except, it could never be that easy, and a moment later, he was caught, lifted and thrown back towards the Head Girl landing at her feet with a soft groan of pain. "N-not an opening." He assured the witch, getting to his feet and dusting himself off.

"F-Finley."

As he pointed at himself, Tess' lip twitched as a smile almost broke. She'd forgotten about how first years were, so adorable and innocent. Covering her mouth she was glad she was ahead while Rhian was as usual quiet.

She figured that there was a way they could reach the clearing if they minded the plants. Things were tricky here and she noticed some foreign foliage compared to usual, but nothing that she deemed too dangerous.

"Wa-"

The small boy dashed ahead and before she could stop him it seemed something already had. 'Shit' was the first thought that popped into her mind as the poor boy was thrown back towards her feet. Bending down she assessed if he had any injuries. She figured it was nothing more than embarrassment and as he dusted himself off, she patted his shoulder lightly.

"I'm so sorry" she said frowning, "but remember we can't just rush off, we need to stick together...but did you see what thing threw you?" her eyes curious.

It wasn't a Devil's snare it wouldn't have let him go. Perhaps a venomous tentacula? It wasn't a snargaluff tree since there were no cuts on the boy. Turning over to Rhian she asked,

"What do you think we should do? I'd rather not hurt a sentient plant if it's not too dangerous."

"I'm so sorry" she said frowning, "but remember we can't just rush off, we need to stick together...but did you see what thing threw you?"

"It's o-okay." Finley insisted once he'd righted himself. Nothing hurt, and in honesty, that had been more than a little fun. The question of what threw him, made Finley nod slightly. He might be useless at many forms of magic, but he knew what had thrown him. "They were vines, I think. Magically enhanced ones. There didn't seem to be anything else around them that I can tell you about though." He explained, looking up at the Head Girl hopefully. Defeating them, he had absolutely no idea how to do, but if they knew what they were coming up against, the older girls would probably know how to do it.

"What do you think we should do? I'd rather not hurt a sentient plant if it's not too dangerous."

Finley turned all the way around to look at the Gryffindor with a questioning look. Maybe this witch knew. Finley was out, but he didn't mind playing bait if they could move on. It had been fun, flying through the air like that.
