The plans for the next day Marilyn didn't react to, knowing just where she'd shove the golf tee... But it would work out to her advantage, leave her more time to talk to the firms lawyers and management staff. Get a better feel of the company. After all, socialising wasn't everything.

But she got revenge soon enough...

All in the spirit of fun Marilyn laughed with Mr.Wong until he was red in the face and she had tears in her eyes, cheering all the way through the song. It was a great bonding opportunity that she used to the fullest, setting up her phone to take a video of the whole thing, sending it to Louis with a shit-eating-grin smiley.

Instantly the reply popped up
"Staff Meeting. Friday. Thanks."

Grinning with mirth the business woman tucked her phone away when it was over and Jake came back to the table, "That. Was brilliant. Mr.Lin you have such great energy!" She complimented, "And you were very convincing as Ken, Jake." She supplied with a wry smile, quietly so only he could hear.

It was getting quite late so after one more round of drinks Marilyn smiled and picked up the tab on the company budget for the trip, a nice gesture towards their hosts and before they knew it she was back in her sleep clothes, walking around the suite, summarising her notes and dictating corrections into her phone to send to Louis.

"That. Was brilliant. Mr.Lin you have such great energy!" She complimented, "And you were very convincing as Ken, Jake."

Jake merely nodded in reply to the backhanded compliment, quite obviously not amused with the scenario for a single moment. Of course, it was part of the job, pleasing clients as best you could. But Jake hadn't felt comfortable the whole way through and was simply counting down the time to which they could leave. Which, thankfully, wasn't very long after. After a short conversation with Dave, sending him the video and then implying that the ending would not be the only time that week he'd have the woman sounding that way. Anything to reaffirm his sexuality to himself right now, because Mr Lin was...

Well, very open about his.

As they got back to the apartment, Jake had sat on the sofa, running his hands over his face and through his hair and letting out a sigh. Comfortable was not a word he recognised anymore. The situation wasn't exactly made much easier with Marilyn walking around in her nightwear talking in to her phone before him, either. Yes, it was possibly the best sight he had seen the whole holiday, but unlike every other time he'd seen a woman this intimately he couldn't touch. He was vastly aware of that, but it seemed his body had not got the memo.

"Do you ever stop working?" Jake asked the woman as she clicked her phone to stop the recording. "You work weekends, you work through the night, you... always work. Don't you have... something else to do?" He asked. It wasn't an offensive question in its tone, simply trying to get a gage on the woman before him because he could not work her out. At. All. "You must have hobbies or... something..." He added, to verify what he meant.

"Do you ever stop working?"

Marilyn had just clicked her recording off and sent it to Louis, turning to face him with a raised eyebrow, "No. I don't. I live to work. I even work in my sleep. Is that what you want to hear?" She asked, her tone not biting or mean, just dry. She was used to the rumours and her reputation, "According to you and the rest of the office, if my memory serves correctly," she looked him in the eyes, "You all think if I'm not working I'm under Louis' desk. Or am I wrong?"

She did not have to deal with his sudden interest in her, Mari didn't allow people in her life who only seemed to care when it was convenient to them. He was bored, she was the only one he could really communicate with in this country, so of course suddenly she's human enough to get to know? No, thank you.

"I have hobbies. I'm not sleeping with the boss, whatever you lot choose to believe, I simply don't owe any of you judgemental pack any looks into my life."

"No. I don't. I live to work. I even work in my sleep. Is that what you want to hear?"

Jake opened his mouth and closed it, seeing a rhetorical question in there and deciding not to answer. He'd just asked so that they had something to talk about, true, but he hadn't expected the curt answers. And when she moved to the idea of fucking Louis, Jake simply smirked. "Everybody thinks you are, yes." He told her, Jake had yet to decide whether he truly believed that though. It was an amusing thought, but there was no evidence to it.

"I have hobbies. I'm not sleeping with the boss, whatever you lot choose to believe, I simply don't owe any of you judgemental pack any looks into my life."

Jake paused, thinking through what she'd said and trying to come up with a reply. Of course, that in itself was difficult as she hadn't asked him anything, or given anything up. Just attacked everyone for their beliefs, founded or no. "Well... I enjoy sports, in my free time. Mostly the NFL, if I'm honest. I play at the weekends for a team in New York. Thanks for asking. But..." With a soft sigh, Jake got to his feet, deciding not to bother talking, it was only going to cause problems, it seemed. "I'll see you at midday, I'll probably be gone before you get up." He told her, heading off to the bedroom and getting in to bed without another word.

No wonder she has no friends. Jake summarised as he closed his eyes, drifting off to sleep only a few moments later.

"Everybody thinks you are, yes."

"And if you believe for one second Louis would ever sleep with an employee you are even stupider than I thought you were." She said more fiercly, loyal to Louis no matter what. That man had given her a home as much as her grandparents had and he had never shyed away from the responsability for her. And Marilyn would be damned if she let people insult him around her.

"Well... I enjoy sports, in my free time. Mostly the NFL, if I'm honest. I play at the weekends for a team in New York. Thanks for asking. But..."

"The answer to a question I never asked,"
she rolled her eyes and looked back at her phone, letting him leave. As soon as she was 100% sure he was asleep she pulled her knees up to her chest and let out a long breath she hadn't realised she'd been holding. Hugging herself she took deep breaths.

Regardless of the rumours that she didn't have a soul or that she had a heart of ice, Marilyn was just a human being and it hurt that she worked her ass off at her job, she didn't target or bully anyone, she simply worked hard, she didn't take anyone's bullshit, she didn't pretend to be like people she didn't like. All in all, she had a life, she was happy with it. And the woman didn't owe any of the jealous gossips at the office anything.

Most certainly not Jake Newbury with his fake interest. Marilyn wasn't an entertainer, she couldn't be switched on and off at whim. And she didn't let herself be treated less than she deserved. She ended up falling asleep on the chair, phone in hand and a frown on her face.

PostSubject: Re: Office AU (Marilyn & Jake)   Sun Oct 19, 2014 12:00 pm

The notion of being stupid was never a welcome one with Jake. He was perfectly aware he was never the smartest human being in the world, but he was not stupid either. So when she thought of calling him 'stupider' Jake had had more than enough. Thankfully, he was leaving before he could retort because the woman probably would not have like his answer for a moment.

And he'd known she hadn't asked, that was the idea. Show her she was rude, but that it seemed had gone over her head.

Sleep had come and gone and after waking up, Jake had padded through to the bathroom without acknowledging Marilyn hadn't been beside him. After showering and pulling on some comfortable clothes, Jake had moved through the sitting room, noting his partner asleep in the chair and tutting to himself before he left.

The morning went by fast, Jake came second in the golf after Mr Wong. Mr Lin had been awful. After leaving them at their homes, Jake headed back to the hotel to quickly change in to his suit for the next meeting. Once Marilyn was ready they'd headed to the next meeting, much like the one the day before in nature. It had stretched a bit more though, and Jake was quite glad when they'd finished. The evening was free for them to catch up on sleep, explore and just have time away from the client, which Jake welcomed gladly. He did not want to spend another night with Mr Lin.

In the taxi back to the hotel, Jake decided he would try again with the woman beside him. After all, this was day three, they had another seven before they were free of one another. "So, what do you want to do this evening?" Jake asked as he slipped his phone in to his pocket. He changed his strategy half way through and held his finger up to motion for her not to answer. "How about we get dinner at the hotel restaurant, head for a walk around the city for maybe an hour, and then come back and look at our notes for tomorrow's sales pitch?" He amended, raising his finger once more to stop her from adding something just yet.

"Yes, I know you need to work, but you need to eat at least. And, we need to be on the same page tomorrow if we have any hope in succeeding. One night, all I ask." Jake explained, trying to see if she was listening. This was business, purely business, and he was not trying for anything more. He just wanted their pitch to be smooth because if it wasn't they could lose everything.

"So, what do you want to do this evening?"

Stay as far away from you and your fake niceties as possible, she thought, not looking at him or responding, which was just as well since he didn't want her to answer anyway.

"How about we get dinner at the hotel restaurant, head for a walk around the city for maybe an hour, and then come back and look at our notes for tomorrow's sales pitch?"

"Fine. But I'm not walking through the city with you for an hour, no point in pretending you want to spend time with me any more than I do with you. Dinner. Revision. You can feel free to walk wherever you want." Preferably off a bridge.

Text to Helen Masters: Helen I'm torn.

Hel: Between?

Mari: Homocide and suicide.

Hel: He's a prick, I vote homocide. What's he done now?

Mari: I can't stand the fake niceties. I get enough of that in my job, no need for that anywhere else. And he thinks I'm difficult. I'm just honest.

Hel: Well he's an idiot. Most people are. Maybe you can get something out of this...

Mari: wth are you on about?

Hel: A nice fuck if nothing else

Mari: *buzzer noise* wrong answer.

Frowning she put her phone away, finally back at their building and stepping out the car. "Freshen up and have dinner in half an hour?" she suggested, walking up to the elevator.

"Fine. But I'm not walking through the city with you for an hour, no point in pretending you want to spend time with me any more than I do with you. Dinner. Revision. You can feel free to walk wherever you want."

It was a compromise, but Jake accepted it with a short nod of his head. Neither of them particularly wanted to do this, but it beat sitting alone in the restaurant which was the other option. Yes, it would give him something to play with if he managed to find someone attractive, but for the most part he saw Chinese people and he just didn't see them as attractive, or rather, he hadn't seen one yet that he found attractive.

As the witch reverted to her phone, Jake watched the city pass by without another word. Which could quite easily have been passed off as awe for the city they were in had it not been for the fact he simply didn't have anything to say. Which, for Jake was a first when he was in the company of women as beautiful as the witch beside him.

Freshen up and have dinner in half an hour?"

"That's fine." Jake replied as they stepped in to the elevator. "I'll meet you down there though, I have a call to make." He explained, moving to their room and straight to the bedroom. After spraying some deodorant and change from a suit to a shirt and tie combination, Jake did as he said and went off downstairs, calling his parents to let them know how he was getting on. Victoria was glad to hear from him, and for the first time he let out a genuine laugh as she went off on how she was doing at High School. As always her grades were high and she had too many friends to count, but the main thing was that she was happy and that was all Jake had ever wanted.

As the time drew closer to the time he had to meet Marilyn, he told Victoria he had to go and that he loved and missed her. After saying goodbye half a dozen times, Jake hung up, heading towards the entrance to wait for Marilyn to come down.

"I'll meet you down there though, I have a call to make."

Marilyn nodded and grabbed her things before taking to the bathroom, taking the time to spash some cold water on her face. Keep your cool, Caldwell, keep your cool, she thought to herself. This assignment was truly dragging on and she did not want to spend any more time talking to Jake than she had to.

Which brought her attention back to Helen's suggestion. Well. It would certainly shut him up. That was for sure. From what she heard he wasn't terrible in bed. Perhaps this could actually work...if he wanted to sleep with her, by all means, fine. It would be better than pretending to be nice to her.

So she got all dolled up like she always did, always priding herself in her looks, something she'd learned early on from Louis was that she was beautiful and nothing anybody else said mattered. And if what they said hurt, crush them.

Perhaps not the best thing to say to a thirteen year old. But still. It had had an effect. A lasting one, at that.

Checking her lipstick one last time she made her way down, arriving on the dot, exactly on time. "Shall we?" she led, no particular tone in her voice.

Jake hadn't had to wait long for Marilyn to arrive, and as always she looked impeccable. Though, Jake didn't comment on this, each time he'd said anything it had been met with little and less, so he'd decided to stop bothering.

"Shall we?"

"After you." Jake replied, motioning for her to enter first. After being shown to their seat, Jake took up the menu and started browsing, deciding on a simple beer as the waiter came to take their order. The currency here was astronomical in comparison to the dollar so Jake had absolutely no clue how much anything was, but he'd noted short of getting a soft drink the beer was amongst the cheapest.

Once the drinks had come and they'd ordered, Jake going off the Italian side of the menu rather than Chinese this evening, the waiter had disappeared and left them alone. Taking a sip from his beer, Jake toyed with topics of conversation in his head. But one sprung from last night that was probably something everyone wanted to know.

"If I may..." Jake started, running his finger over the edge of his glass. "What is the relationship between you and Mr Clement?" Jake asked, not daring to look up at the witch. He was genuinely curious, but only because she'd been so adamant that they weren't fucking. Which meant that there had to be something that made them so close. Though, knowing the woman before her he wasn't going to get an answer, but it was worth a try.

After ordering her standard glass of champagne, resisting the cognac, that could wait; a liking she'd aquired via Louis over time, Marilyn ordered a caesar salad and bruscetta. Feeling no need for conversation that was forced she remained silent, passive. Waiting for her drink and thanking the waiter when it came.

"What is the relationship between you and Mr Clement?"

For the love of- why were people so nosy? Goodness, he really was no different than the rest of the herd. A bunch of busy-bodies Marilyn was sick and tired of. Might as well shut them up for a while.

Taking a sip of her drink she looked him dead in the eye, "He's my dad." And then she paused, letting it sink in, "For all intents and purposes, anyhow. My parents died when I was young, he raised me, with some help, but mostly he did it alone. And before you think about it, I worked very hard to get where I am, he never gave me anything in this company."

After contemplating in silence she added, "Now that you know, and soon so I don't doubt will the rest of the herd, admit it, it won't make a difference. If they think I slept with the boss or if I'm the boss's daughter? They've all already decided that I don't deserve what I get, that I haven't earned it." she scoffed and rolled her eyes.

They couldn't stand that they couldn't touch her. Jealousy had blinded them from day one. Jealous of her success, her relationship to her boss, jealous that she didn't care what they said or did.

"He's my dad."

Jake's eyes went wide with that information, because quite simply that as not what he was expecting. They didn't have the same name, they didn't look anything alike. The explanation that came after didn't make it much easier to digest either.

Though the moment she moved to tarnish everyone in the office with the same brush, Jake simply wasn't going to roll over and take that. "You know, if you let people get to know you, they wouldn't judge nearly as much as they do now." Jake replied, it was nothing more than a whisper because he was still processing what she said, and he knew whatever he said he was going to get shot down. He didn't like it, but such was the woman before him.

"However, I will put it out there, that you're obviously not the favourite, because if you were, I wouldn't be here with you." Jake added, showing that perhaps he wasn't do narrow minded as the rest. He knew their sales figures were on par with one another, so it was on commitment they were here.

"You know, if you let people get to know you, they wouldn't judge nearly as much as they do now."

"Why should I? I'm not particularily interested in being friends with people who would judge someone so harshly and spread such horrible lies without knowing the person. What they say about me reflects more on them than on myself. This may come as a shock to you, but I do have friends." A small smile crept onto her features at the thought of her friends. True, her friend group was tiny, but they were genuinly caring, good people. And Marilyn didn't need more than that.

"However, I will put it out there, that you're obviously not the favourite, because if you were, I wouldn't be here with you."

"Dad is a fair man." she shrugged, "We may not agree on everything regarding the company, god knows, but if you're here it means he thought you could deal with it."

Her argument was something Jake could agree with, he'd made friends quickly enough in the firm so he hadn't been subjected to the bullying nature that Marilyn had. But that was probably because he'd never had a problem with just throwing himself in to things and getting going. The job had been no different. "I think you underestimate my opinions. You may have friends, yes, but I don't think you have many at work." Jake told her, but he wasn't completely sure on how large or small that group would be.

"We may not agree on everything regarding the company, god knows, but if you're here it means he thought you could deal with it."

"Does that mean you don't agree?" Jake asked, wondering what the witch thought of him. He guessed it wouldn't be anything nice, he wasn't particularly bothered by that, but it would be nice to have an idea. "I mean, I messed up the first day, but if you overlook that one sentence." He added as their dinner arrived, Jake instantly picking up his fork and tucking in almost instantly.

"I think you underestimate my opinions. You may have friends, yes, but I don't think you have many at work."

"Don't need friends there." she shrugged, letting him continue to process and taking another drink from her champagne and listening to his question before tucking in to her own food with a sly smile.

"Does it matter what I think of you?" Marilyn asked, not quite coyly, but not far from it. Curious, almost, to see if he had put any thought into it. Her answer was noncommital, not betraying whether she thought he was competant or a complete waste of oxygen.

As far as Marilyn was concerned, she didn't care about what Jake thought of her. It in no way affected her opinion of herself, nor did his opinion carry any weight into her career.

"Don't need friends there."

"I think we need friends everywhere." Jake replied, a small shrug of his shoulders showing it didn't really matter if she agreed or not with him. There was absolutely nothing wrong with her idea, but, Jake made sure he had friends in everything he did so that someone had his back at all times.

Not that he wasn't competent in fighting his own battles, of course.

"Does it matter what I think of you?"

"I think your opinion matters highly. My boss is your father, and if you don't like me, I'm sure you could tell him to drop my ass in a matter of minutes. In which case I would have no income, and my parents would be struggling more than they already are to keep the roof over our head. Not to mention it would make it insanely difficult for me to make sure my little sister gets through college." Jake replied, not looking up from his food. He was highly aware the witch had power over him, he didn't like that notion, but such was life. "But, you don't have to share if you don't want to." He added, shrugging once more and continuing with his dinner.

In which case I would have no income, and my parents would be struggling more than they already are to keep the roof over our head. Not to mention it would make it insanely difficult for me to make sure my little sister gets through college."

Marilyn's eyes widened slightly at all of the information she was supplied with, not quite ready to believe it all. After days of nothing but rudeness it would make sense for him to go for sympathy now that he knows who she was, she would to get what she needed. But he wasn't quite her. But he wanted her opinion? Fine.

"You want an honest assesment?" She asked again, "Alright. You're not stupid, but you have a tendency to go with your gut even if it doesn't comply with your head. Sometimes that's good, sometimes rules are there for a reason. You're attractive and you know it, which isn't inherently a fault, but you have a reputation that precedes you somewhat, not very positive. And you care too much. You're good at your job or you wouldn't be here, but I'm not really sure if you could take the pressure of a higher position. And to calm you, I can't get you fired. We're not mafiosi's, he can't drop people just because I don't get along with them."

All of this was rather matter of factly spoken and finished with a small smirk.

Jake listened to the assessment, nodding at the insinuation on his intelligence as well as the comment on his looks. Jake grinned at that comment, well, at least her eyes worked. "Reputation?" Jake asked at that comment, as far as he was aware he didn't have too much of a reputation that could be seen as negative, but then he couldn't say he knew everything.

The comment on caring made Jake frown slightly. He cared about his family, and keeping their home and getting the best for Victoria, but apart from that, he didn't really care about the rest of his life. But, he didn't flag that up. The pressure one, however, made Jake look up at Marilyn. "I can handle pressure." He told her firmly, before shaking his head at her words.

"But at least my job is safe until I actually do something wrong. Not just because you dislike me." Jake concluded, finishing up his dinner and lying his knife and fork down. Bringing his drink to his lips, Jake concluded Marilyn wasn't that bad, still not overly likeable, but not as bad as he had first thought.

At that moment, Jake's phone rang, and he quickly scrambled to get his phone, he'd forgotten to put it on vibrate. "I'm so sorry." Jake told the woman before him, answering it a moment later.

"Dave, I'll call you back, I'm having dinner... With Marilyn, obviously." Jake spoke in to the phone, glancing across the table and away. "No, Dave. Seriously, I'll talk to you later... You're so funny!" The comment came out as sarcasm as the man on the other end of the phone asked if they'd been fucking yet. And after the no, he'd played the song from the karaoke with Marilyn making the sexual noises down the phone. "Bye. Dave." Jake finished, hanging up and turning his phone on to silent.

"Did you want dessert?" Jake asked, not meeting her eye as he tried to dismiss images from his head that most certainly didn't need to be there.

The woman didn't respond to his query regarding his reputation, no need to give away her sources. Honestly, it wasn't like the women in the office had much else to look at or talk about when they thought Marilyn could hear them.

"But at least my job is safe until I actually do something wrong. Not just because you dislike me."

"I'm not the type to get someone fired for personal reasons. I'm good at my job and I'm professional. So sleep easy, I suppose, if you ever lose your job it won't be because of my feelings." She finished her salad and her drink, right when his phone went off.

Raising an eyebrow at the, to her, one-sided conversation, she nodded the apology away. What she did note was that he'd stopped looking her in the eye. Interesting. "How's the office holding up, then? And no, I've not got much of a sweet tooth." Marilyn leaned back and crossed her legs.

"I wouldn't be opposed to drinks in the room, though."

"I'm not the type to get someone fired for personal reasons. I'm good at my job and I'm professional. So sleep easy, I suppose, if you ever lose your job it won't be because of my feelings."

"Que Sera, Sera." Jake replied with a small shrug. It was about the only phrase in another language that he knew, and he quite liked it. He knew he couldn't always get it his way, but if anything went wrong he would be straight back out looking for the next job that would make sure Victoria got everything she wanted and needed.

Or so he hoped.

"How's the office holding up, then? And no, I've not got much of a sweet tooth."

"Missing me." Jake replied with a small smile. "Busy, as well." He added, figuring he had better make sure they had actually talked about work even though they were thousands of miles away from the office. "Dave had been keeping me up to date, but obviously now isn't convenient for such talks, so he can wait." Jake explained, hoping to throw her off of what had really just happened.

"I wouldn't be opposed to drinks in the room, though."

Jake wasn't sure on the tone of those words, so went with a small smile and a nod. Well, they'd gotten through dinner without killing each other, that had to be a good sign. Motioning to the waiter, Jake told him to put it on their bill, giving the man their room number before they headed up to the room, a bottle of Champagne on order and a few bottles of beer.

After settling in to the room, Jake undid his tie and the top couple of buttons on his shirt. He was stretched out on the sofa, a beer in hand, relaxed. "Did you want to start revision now?" Jake asked, kinda hoping she wouldn't but not wanting to stall her from doing her work. If he'd learned anything this week, it was that Marilyn Montez did not let anything get in the way of work.

"Missing me."

Marilyn rolled her eyes, but playfully this time, not in a rude or exasperated way like before, but now he wasn't threatening to destroy her hard work with a passé drop of words or the wrong gesture- so she could relax slightly. Or at least, feel less exasperated.

To be quite honest she didn't feel irritated by his presence in that moment, he seemed pleasent enought to get on with enough to make it through dinner. Of course, none of that swayed her personal opinion of him, but on the surface that was enough.

Once back in the apartment she slipped out of her heels and padded over to the bar to make herself a cognac on ice, the champagne they could save for after the pitch. Taking herdrink with her she sat on the opposite couch, also stretching out to lay on her back, upper body elevated by the arm of the couch and pillows, her dress riding up her thigh as she pulled one knee up slightly, just to get comfortable, sipping her drink.

"Did you want to start revision now?"

"Hmm, that can wait a few more minutes..."

"Hmm, that can wait a few more minutes..."

Jake 'mmm'ed in agreement, taking a sip of his beer before he put it back on the table, bringing one arm up behind his head to rest on. Looking over at the other sofa, Jake's couldn't help but roam slightly. From the manner the woman was sat with her chest pushed out, if only marginally from the way she sat, to the way her slightly bent knee was moving her dress up in something of a provocative manner.

She simply had to know what she was doing, Jake was quite sure of it as he looked away.

From Dave's words to what he was now being tormented with, Jake decided to close his eyes. Of course, that didn't make the sight go away, it simply made it worse, more graphic, detailed. Jake was not winning this one. "So, do you have a boyfriend, fiancé or husband?" Jake asked casually, he hadn't seen a ring, but that could just be because of the fact she'd been flirting outrageously with Mr Wong and a ring wouldn't fit the bill.

But Jake liked to think that the woman wouldn't be like that. That was, in his eyes, much too wrong, not that Mr Wong was any better, of course.

"So, do you have a boyfriend, fiancé or husband?"

Marilyn laughed, shaking her head and downing her drink before setting it aside, "No I'm unattatched," she clarified before turning her face to look at him with a wry smirk and a dry drawl.

"Why? Do you have a boyfriend, fiancé or husband?"
The question was followed by genuine laughter, amused at his face. "Oh come off it, I know you're straight..."Marilyn looked back at the ceiling, letting her head lean back into the pillows, exposing her neck under the warm light of the hotel lamps.

Vaguely wondering why he'd asked she was pretty sure she knew why, but didn't comment on it. She never initiated these kinds of things, always rather curious how the other person (or persons) would.

With the knowledge that she was unattached, a hint of a smile touched Jake's features at the much. Well, that he probably could have guessed, seeing as she worked so late and so damn hard, if showed in those qualities that she didn't have commitments, or rather distractions, outside of the office.

"Why? Do you have a boyfriend, fiancé or husband?"

A pillow was launched at the woman for that comment, playfully, and a moment later, Jake let out a laugh. "Not gay!" He retorted as she said she knew he was straight. "I just apparently have a knack for attracting the gay men in China." He explained, shaking his head. Yes, it had only been one, but Jake didn't mind making things bigger and better than they were for attention in this regard.

"I'm definitely straight, and one hundred percent single." Jake replied to her question, clarifying to make sure it wouldn't come back to bite him. He didn't make any more comments as he led quite contently on the sofa, waiting for instructions from Marilyn to get back to work. He was comfy, and maybe, just maybe they'd found something of a comfortable conversation. Surely, it wasn't best of friends kind of conversation, but it was something to make this trip bearable.

"I just apparently have a knack for attracting the gay men in China."

"Poor Lin," she mused, "It's kind of sweet, he's going to be so sad when his hunky American boy toy has to leave..." She smirked, shielding herself with the pillow he'd thrown from the second one, laughing softly. Then they laid on their respective sofas in comfortable silence for a bit before she pulled up her other knee, turning her body to get up.

"Right, I'm going to change into something more comfortable and then we can do the revision, it might get late and I'd rather not fall into bed in my clothes later on."

With that she went to the bathroom and changed into her nightwear again, her hair still in loose waves from before, tying her robe around her and taking out her contacts, replacing them with her glasses before grabbing her notes and phone and rejoining Jake in the living room, not entirely unaware of the effect her appearance may or may not have on him.

To be fair, Marilyn wasn't entirely physically uneffected by the way he slept, either...
