PostSubject: Poisons & Antidotes Lesson 1 : The Body, The Poisons, The Consequences    Poisons & Antidotes Lesson 1 : The Body, The Poisons, The Consequences EmptySat Aug 09, 2014 4:15 pm

A whole new setting, brought back old memories to Mycroft. It was around fifteen years ago that he had stood in the very room, learning from master Aurors about how to work on the field and how to get that correct mentality of being on the field. Looking in to the classroom, he pulled the curtains open, letting light enter the classroom. It was all so stuffy, opening up a window letting fresh air in. Taking a deep breath he couldn’t help but wonder if this was the right step to take. Teagan had warned him that he was being spread thinly on all responsibilities that he held, but after the Ministry work, after the failure of a graduating Auror class, that’s when he knew he needed to get in gear and help Clement.

The afternoon was a perfect time to begin the class. He had seen the people that had signed up for his list, all familiar faces. But just because he knew them, in no way meant that he would soften up on them. For the handful of students that he had, he knew that they could handle harder work, and those who didn’t..the door was always open for them to leave. He wasn’t going to be easy, this wasn’t Hogwarts, there wasn’t a way for them to try half-heartedly and earn points for their house. The mentality needed to shift.

Cleaning the room up, he began to put things in place. Various phials on the large black desk that would be his. A body over it, with a steady heart beat ringing through the classroom. He didn’t know if the students had seen a body for classes, but today they would be asked to really get dirty and have basic knowledge outside of textbooks.

Finally being satisfied, he sat down and waited for the class to come in. From students fresh out of Hogwarts, to students trying for their second year, what mattered was that today, they were equal in his eyes.

Marilyn had been looking forward to this class since she'd signed up. The witch knew that while she was good at Stealth and Tracking, Potions had always been her top subject and she'd missed it after graduation, and after her escape, of course, since right after graduation she'd obviously been...preoccupied. And not only had she missed the subject, she'd missed her favorite Professor. Professor Holmes had been something of a role model to her in School and most definitly had her favorite style of teaching; he really knew what he was doing.
When she'd found out at the ball that he'd be teaching her in University alongside Clement she'd been more excited than about anything else in ages.

Not to mention that her newfound friendship with his younger sister, which had come a bit as a surprise, but the young witch seemed so enamoured it wouldn't surprise Marilyn if she'd told her brother about it, Tess was truly charming.

Also it was Jake's first class ever and she had already warned him to be polite and disciplined and for merlin's sake to please tuck in his shirt.
All of this in mind the witch stood in front of the classroom door and pulled her hair back in a tight ponytail as she always had for potions, less bothered by showing her scars as she'd been a few months before. Straightening her work robes she entered the classroom with a straight spine, giving her Professor a smile as she sat down in the front of the classroom, "Good Morning, Professor Holmes."

After leaving the Quidditch squad in Canada, Jake had realised that all of this was becoming quite serious now. He'd been doing menial office work in the Auror departments as they saw necessary. Basically starting from the bottom all over again.

After Marilyn's warning to be tidy (something that Jake had found rather rude seeing as he always presented himself well, in his personal opinion), Jake had made sure to take his time in getting ready. Practical, but smart, Jake had gone for in his suit trousers and shirt. Long sleeve, with the option of rolling it up out of the way.

Entering the class, Jake sent a nod towards the professor. "Good morning, Professor Holmes." Jake greeted the man politely. The older man had always been something like intimidating, but in a manner that commanded respect, something that Jake always had for his superiors.

Noting Marilyn at the front, Jake wasn't sure whether to go over after their last meeting, but Jake plucked up the courage, slipping in to the desk beside her. "Morning, Mari." Jake greeted softly, pulling out his notepad and pen. He'd never been the most attentive of students, but Jake found if he made himself write notes, he would stay focused. Hopefully.

Scarlett had been excited to attend the class since she'd signed up. She'd been receiving 'Outstanding' marks in her Stealth and Tracking, and was extremely interested in taking up other classes, and Poisons and Antidotes, and Mind Training, all seemed useful and extremely interesting.

She remembered Professor Holmes from Hogwarts, and was happy to see a familiar face, especially since she'd always loved Potions in school, it had been her favourite subject. She entered the classroom "Morning Professor Holmes," she said politely before walking over to an empty seat.

David's mind was still swimming. Swimming from the meeting with Tessa and how it had turned out. He had let the murderous scum who killed his parents go, on some stupid deal to capture the man who killed her father. So it was because of this that David walked into his first poison's and antidotes class silently, and took a seat near the back, not a word to his previous headmaster. Nor to anyone else in the room he knew.

He would of course participate, but not to his full standards.

When Mary saw who would be teaching one of her classes, the first thing she did was double-check. Professor Holmes. Professor Mycroft Holmes. Yes, that was the one. The next thing she did was grin widely and signed up. One of her favorite Professors - except, of course, Miss Finn - teaching at the University? Of course she'll be there. She was so incredibly excited about the class, she wrote a lengthy letter to Victoria, probably annoyed the living hell out of Gavin and wrote a quick, excited letter to Jake, saying she couldn't wait to begin the class.

She knew, of course, that it'd be very different from Potions class at Salem, as they had to learn how to do things in real life and not just concoct potions in a safe environment. And if Potions was one of the best classes at her old school, Mary couldn't wait to see how good this class would be.

"Professor Holmes." the girl nodded respectfully at the man, grinned widely at Jake and Mari and took a seat. She still didn't really know how to act around her old friend, so she decided she would treat her like she had just met her. Mari wasn't her old self, after all, and Mary was determined to get to know the new Mari and to become friends with her.

First days were always hard, from his first day at Hogwarts, to his first day now. He had wanted to dress to impress, especially since the man teaching was the father of the girl that he was going steady with. The small world cliché had come and bitten him in the ass. Rhian had been helpful, with letting him stay with her, to having the bright idea of having him dress professionally. That woman was a godsend and he appreciated having her as a girlfriend.

Making sure his shirt was tucked in, his hair in order, he had a courage to push the door and enter. He noticed that a lot of people here were older than him, and awkwardly enough, one of them his former professor. He noticed there was a click...sort of, and he decided to sit in the back, scared to be too close, or have to make eye contact with the professor.

Everyone seemed so in order, and he wasn't quite the perfect student. He decided to try and take it all in, and hopefully not flunk out.

Seeing that most students that signed up in the class took their seats, Mycroft figured it was time to begin the lesson. He was amused by their reactions to see him, as if they could get rid of him so easily. That was certainly not the case. Sitting back on his desk, he began to speak.

"Welcome students, none of you are new faces, so mine shouldn't be such a shock either. Either way, I'm Professor Holmes, and this is not potions. This is where I really test you. I approved your applications to enter this class not by the bragging done in certain applications, but by the idea that each of you had, presumably something to offer in the classroom. I don't need textbooks, in fact, bring a textbook in this classroom and I will hit you with it. And yes, I can hit you, since this is my classroom and these are my rules. If you want to run and cry, sadly you'll have to come to me"

And for the first time in a long time, a gleam appeared in his eye, a smirk tugging at his lips. He did like the students he was teaching, for the fact that most of them could take on the challenge he would throw at them, at least hypothetically.

"Now, starting off. In my classroom, I am not going to just lecture, no I want you to talk to me. Tell me why you even deserve to be in my class? Don't give me bullshit, don't give me what I am expecting to hear...give me a reason why I should keep you here. And why I should even think about giving you respect. Because at Hogwarts or Salem, I gave you respect because that was expected, here you earn it. Who wants to start?"

At the beginning of his speech Marilyn felt an old twinge of excitement, knowing that this course would be a challenge felt good since she wanted a challenge. She wanted to be pushed past her limits to see where they were and ultimately to learn how to go further.

Her first challenge was to answer his question, and at that she felt her mind become somewhat torn. Why did she deserve to be there?
Well, anyone else might have thought back to her experience as a PoW, but honestly that didn't come to mind as a first answer. Her honest answer was much more simple. She wanted to be better than she was. If that meant she deserved to be there was not her call. But it was a reason.

So she raised her hand until called upon and answered thoughtfully,
"I'm not the one to say if I deserve to be here or not, but I certainly want to be here, I want to be better than I am at what I want to do. As for respect..." Mari thought for a moment, "I cannot expect it. But I am ready to do all that I can and more to earn it, Sir."

Scar couldn't wait to start the class. She had enjoyed potions at school, it was one of her favourite subjects, and being able to study it at Uni, with her old potions teacher as her current teacher just seemed excellent. When he began the class, she waited eagerly to get into the learning, though his first question threw her. She knew she deserved to be there, it was just hard for her to form into words in her mind.

She listened vaguely to Mari's answer, and waited to see if anyone else would answer before she decided to speak up. And for a moment, she didn't care if she sounded egotistic, he didn't want bullshit, so she decided she would speak her mind "I deserve to be here because I'm smart enough to be here," she answered "Of course, I want to be here as well, but I'm certainly smart enough, and willing to put in the work. And I think that hard work should earn respect," she said clearly.

Jake had been quiet since the opening of the class, not that he'd really spoken before because Merlin he didn't wish to mess up, especially with Marilyn's clear instructions to not mess up. His notebook remained on the desk when Mycroft made the point of saying no textbooks, he could take notes, surely? Jake thought, because he would need them for tests, he was quite sure.

The questions that came soon after, however, made Jake worry a little. Writing the question down, or paraphrasing at least, Jake looked at the question and groaned inwardly.

Mari's answer was one he could understand, though not his main reason for being here. He was quite impressed with her reasoning, but still hadn't phrased his own when the next person spoke up. Jake listened to Scarlett, who stated because she was clever enough to be here that was her reason to deserve being here. Jake wasn't so sure on that reasoning, he wasn't overly clever, and would never claim to be, but that didn't mean he didn't deserve to be here.

As the witch finished and the room fell silent for a moment, Jake decided to raise his hand. Once called upon, he addressed the class as a whole, not just Professor Homes. "My reason for being here is not for personal betterment, or self-entitlement of being here. I hold no personal vendetta against anyone that we will be fighting, nor have my family ever been directly pulled in to the problems of the world until very recently. However, even the recent attack on Salem, bringing my younger sister in to wider world, is not why I think I deserve to be here.

"The reason I believe we should all be here is not for a personal goal, but because we want to make the world a safer place to live in. Through both past actions when the Black Widows struck and my teaching at both schools, I think I've accomplished that, but I will continue to keep doing so for as long as I live. So basically, I think I deserve to be here because I want to protect the innocent, sir." Jake concluded, his eyes instantly reverting to his notes so that he didn't have to see people's reactions.

Respect was always earned, so he would not comment on that, he couldn't sway that any more than he could sway the weather. But hopefully, Professor Holmes respected him, because Jake was so very respectful of the man. Looked up to him, even.

Conner had never taken to appreciate Mycroft in his full essence, because in reality, he would have paid more attention to what Rhian was doing during the class. But in this uni course, he felt that he was in his zone.

Immediately the students here began to rush out their reasons and Conner felt that with each and every reason for them to be here he felt smaller and smaller. He watched as they all spoke of bravery, hard work, heroics and he felt like a kid. Especially after Mr. Newbury-Jake, his name was Jake here, made his speech. Looking around he realized no one was talking and he tentatively raised his hand.

"I-I want to be here because I'm not good at many things, especially not school work, not really, but I know I'm good at protecting people. As cheesy as this sounds, I've seen what people can do in response to their unwavering ambition and power. People get hurt, traumatized and deaths happen. And while I might be young and I haven't done what people in this room have, I want to prove that I can maybe be admirable you know?"

Rubbing the back of his neck, he realized he wasn't good at making speeches and looked a bit sheepish.

"I don't expect you to respect me sir, because I'm not here to have that, I'm here to learn. And no matter how hard this class might be, I'll try my hardest and maybe then, I'll be able to look into your eyes without embarrassment...thank you?"

He didn't know why he added his thanks but he immediately sat down trying to act cool after that whole speech. He was such a dweeb.

Poisons & Antidotes Lesson 1 : The Body, The Poisons, The Consequences Empty
PostSubject: Re: Poisons & Antidotes Lesson 1 : The Body, The Poisons, The Consequences    Poisons & Antidotes Lesson 1 : The Body, The Poisons, The Consequences EmptySun Sep 14, 2014 4:17 pm

Leaning back in his chair he studied each and every student as they took in the question. Marilyn Caldwell was the first to start answering his question. While he first started the class of with the question it was to see exactly what their ideology was and what they believed an Auror to be. Starting with Marilyn she wanted to learn, simple enough except she never once mentioned her own achievements as an escapee, meaning she wanted to shy away and create a new accomplishment without the weight of her name.

Next came Scarlett Waters, and she spoke about intellect. She didn't speak about the job, instead spoke about prior knowledge and her own. If he remembered correctly the girl was a former Ravenclaw, and it seemed that while she had accomplished a lot, she hadn't removed the importance of intellectuality. That was a double-edged sword.

Jake Newbury came soon after and spoke about heart. It was right out of sentiment and while admirable also a downfall. The man spoke about how he wasn't interested in vendettas, revenge, or any heroics, if it didn't involve purpose. His goal was to create a safe place for his sister and if any man would understand, it would be Mycroft.

Lastly came Conner Bailey. The boy was definitely not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but he also had heart and something many had not spoken of: hope. He had the heroism to a certain degree, but it was just hoping to be good enough and hoping to improve.

Figuring he had heard enough he got up and walked closer to the front of the class. He wondered if he should keep the observations to himself, but knew that if he didn't see where they stood they couldn't move forward. Signaling for all of them to pay attention to him once more he began to voice what he realized.

"Thank you for those that spoke up, you see this was a test. I wanted to see what merit you are coming with and what faults need to be tweaked. I don't expert perfection from your self, I expect perfection in attempting. But here are things you must realize. Starting with Miss Caldwell, I see you want to separate yourself from your long and heavy weighing resumé, and I for one see it as a good thing. No one in this field will treat you any differently if you bring that up. I appreciate your merit, but I also think that you are  derailing yourself from true achievements if you don't use what you know and put it in perspective." turning over to Scarlett, "You Miss Waters, I see that you've been told for a while that you're smart. All I heard was 'smart' and you have expectations of a world that merits just that. You would be wrong. You won't gain respect with just hard work, it's when you stop putting yourself in that pedestal and realize you are more than your brain. Maybe add some heart." turning over to Jake, "Speaking of heart, you Mr. Newbury have it. It's an admirable trait, very honest but also very raw. Having a heart on your sleeve gives you strong values but also deters you by showing your Achilles' heel. I admire your need to protect the innocent, and there is nothing wrong with that in my book. "Lastly came Conner, "Mr. Bailey, you are the most ineloquent speaker I have ever had in a classroom, yet you like Mr. Newbury have heart. In your hodge podge of words I only see that you view yourself as not good enough, and let me tell your Mr. Bailey, you might not be the brightest, that is true, but I don't take in broken bulbs either"

Taking a deep breath after his long analyzation he began to wheel in the animatronic body. It was similar to a dummy, but was anatomically correct, and had a magic charm on it giving it human reactions. Snapping his fingers, the desks became a body over a stretcher.

"Each of you have a body in front of you, and all of them have had a poison in their body. They are close to death, and  you have to find the origin of it. They all had these accidents while on a mission with you. Now imagine the body in front of you is your partner, and I will give you symptoms of what could have caused the poisoning in your area. Be creative, and most importantly save the life of your partner. Who wants to go first?"

The last person to speak was one of Jake's former students and he noted the lack of confidence on the former Hufflepuff's behalf. Jake wondered why he lacked so much confidence, but the answer was good enough. Professor Holmes, however had seemed to stay undeterred by the whole thing until he spoke.

"Speaking of heart, you Mr. Newbury have it. It's an admirable trait, very honest but also very raw. Having a heart on your sleeve gives you strong values but also deters you by showing your Achilles' heel. I admire your need to protect the innocent, and there is nothing wrong with that in my book. "

Jake listened to the feedback, his brow furrowing slightly as he listened to the words. He took it in, but he wasn't sure if he agreed with that too much. Jake's eyes fell to his notepad, trying to dispel what the professor had said.

"Who wants to go first?"

Jake waited for someone else to put themselves forwards, but as it neared on a minute before anyone stepped forwards, Jake raised his hand. Might as well get this over and done with, after all. "I'll go first, sir." Jake replied, readying himself for what was going to come.

As Jake Newbury was the first to volunteer, Mycroft hopped on his desk and studied the young man in question. To him, he looked unsure of the critique, but heroically volunteered first. His own mind began to filter through situations that could potentially happen while in the field.

"There's been an attack, hexes have been throw, colors of red, white, green hit the skies. Glass vials containing substances are also thrown in the air, but you heed on with your partner. A few minutes in, as attacks are flying, he begins to complain about a stinging on his chest. Now he's gasping, and his chest has a slash mark. Soon he begins to heave, trying to vomit but nothing is coming out. Sweat is protruding and he complains about feeling dizzy, signaling a lowering of blood pressure. He shows signs of arrhythmia as well, now tell me Mr. Newbury, what caused this sensation, and how can you cure it?"

As soon as he was done, the body began to convulse and began to gasp, heave and complaining about the symptoms. His chest carried a heavy mark, of a hex, yet he keeps grabbing on his left side gasping for air.

Mycroft leaned back and waited to see exactly how he would react to the situation and if he could get the solution correct.

Not good, this is not good he will tell you. Aaron is of course late for his class and he was ever barely late for anything. Aaron needed to be an Auror, not only was it in his blood but he wanted to be able to protect those around him and he couldn't do that if he wasn't an Auror... well he could but it wouldn't be legal. He made his way inside and sighed as he saw he was late. "I am so sorry" he apologized. He recognized his old Professor and knew that his old Professor took no one's shit.

Jake listened to the explanation given to him by Professor Holmes and tried to get a notion of what he was going on about. Which, quite honestly, Jake didn't have a clue. Except from the spells. Spells he could work with!

However as Professor Holmes continued Jake couldn't place the spell and he began to panic. Potions were not his strongest suit and as he tried to pull anything out that he could, Jake was failing and he knew it quite well.

It didn't help as the body before him began to move either, making Jake jump backwards to his feet. That was not okay, not okay at all and now anything he might have been able to say was gone as he stared horrified at the moving body. The dying moving body.

"I don't... I'd use a Bezoar sir, but I don't know what has happened." Jake told his professor, feeling so profusely sick right now. "Though if I may, sir, this is what field medics are for." Jake told the man, averting his eyes from the writhing body and trying his very best not to throw up. Definitely not okay to do this without warning.

As soon as he finished the description, Mycroft noticed the door open. His eyes hardened seeing a young boy, one who was vey late for the class. He remembered Mr. Rosier well, and he shook his head pausing him before he could even begin. He managed to let out the sorry right before Mycroft began to talk to him.

"Mr. Rosier, have you ever heard the saying that if you're early you're on time and if you're on time you're late? Guess what happens when you are actually late, I'd kick you out of my class. What is the point of you even coming late, it's disrespectful to even walk into my class because the people around you managed to be on time. Be late again, and I promise you, you won't be allowed in my class again" he warned.

Turning back to Mr. Newbury, he noticed that the man was not doing very well in the situation. He had given him the clues as to the heavy breathing, the words the man said signaling basic poisons based on nature. But it seemed that he wasn't doing very well. It took him a while and the charm seemed to be dying out on the "body".

"Good guess, lucky guess" he drawled out, "It would work indeed, but you did not catch the problem did you? How many times has anyone been warned of an attack? How many times is a case given a medic to go? Basic healing is needed in every missions, sometimes to protect the innocent means more than just waving a wand Mr. Newbury. "

Shaking his head he turned to the larger group and saw if anyone could try and answer the question.

"Now once more, think about the toxicology, obviously it was more than the stinging hex that worked on the poor man that is dying before you. The key words given is dizziness, low blood pressure, dry heaving. Now what poison, since is what the lesson is titled to be in the syllabus, could have affected him. I already hinted it was inhaled, more than that I'll add another clue...it's a popular ingredient in potions. And taught to you in every basic education. Anyone care to explain this?"

Poisons & Antidotes Lesson 1 : The Body, The Poisons, The Consequences Empty
PostSubject: Re: Poisons & Antidotes Lesson 1 : The Body, The Poisons, The Consequences    Poisons & Antidotes Lesson 1 : The Body, The Poisons, The Consequences EmptyFri Sep 19, 2014 6:57 am

Marilyn remained utterly stoic throughout her evaluation, knowing that she wouldn't deny her accomplishments and that she used her gifts in escapism when necessary, not willing to let the trauma of the experience get in the way of learning from it.

Still internally categorizing the information she didn't volunteer to start, instead listening to Jake's attempt. A bezeor, not a bad idea, it was the main igredient in the antidote for common poisons, though by Professors Holmes reaction not the one he was looking for.

Narrowing her eyes at the convulsing body in concentration she took in the 'hints' her professor gave them and searched her memory. Basic ingredient in potions, that rules out most uncommon or rare ones such as acromantula venom and the symptoms ruled out undetectables, obviously.

Then there was the convulsing, so an attack on the nervous system. Mixed with dizziness that pointed towards a narcotic, the lowering blood pressure showed signs of it attacking the bloodstream, thinning the blood; or attacking the heart. Inhaled so that accounted for heaving. It had to be a relatively quick acting poison, but effictively canceled out by a bezeor so nothing very complicated.

"Angels Trumpet," she murmured before speaking up, "Professor, could it be powdered Angels Trumpet? It's got heavily narcotic effects so that would account for the blood pressure and dizziness, not to mention the reaction in the nervous system.  It's relatively fast acting, but not especially so if it can be countered with a bezeor. It's also one of the basic ingredients in potions and inhaled it would have the heaving reaction from the lungs and stomach, but since it's not actually the stomach acid reacting but powder clinging to the lining of both lungs, windpipe and stomach tract he wouldn't actually vomit so that's why he's just dry heaving."

Marilyn looked back at the body briefly and mentally counted through the symptoms again, checking that each was accounted for in her answer and coming up positively. Potions had always been her best subject and if she hadn't chosen to be an auror she would've gone for a potions apprenticeship, she could now only hope that the poison she'd chosen was also the one meant, it certainly fit every criteria.

Brisk footsteps echoed off the stone corridor as Ben walked to his first class. Not wanting to end up as a first year cliche, he had insisted that he and Conner scope out the classrooms as soon as they got onto campus last week. But he hadn't anticipated the morning he'd had.

At the bloody crack of dawn, he'd been woken up by a tapping on his window. An owl from his lawyer, saying his parents were trying to divest him of his share in the company. Ben knew it was coming, after they'd practically disowned him. He'd known, and had been ready. None of that meant it was any less time consuming to deal with. What should have been a simple floo call had turned into two hours of loophole closing and tedious detail scouring. Even then, the issue was not fully closed. But he was already late to class and needed to leave, if he had any hope of staying at this school.

His hand slipped to the front of his suit jacket, ensuring that the button was in place. He never bothered with ties, if he could help it. Especially when doing potions work. But the black jacket and pants, offset with a light gray shirt, was as comfortable as he would ever allow himself to be in this place. Well, with other people, at least.

Reaching the door, he opened it and slipped inside. Quickly surveying the room, he took in the convulsing body in front of...was that Professor Newbury? He'd never had the man personally, but he'd known of him. Storing this bit of information away, he quickly scanned through the rest of the group, noting familiar and strange faces.

His eyes settling on Professor Holmes, he mouthed a low, "Apologies." He would say more at the end of class, if he wasn't kicked out by then. But it would do no one good if he tried to interrupt. Seeing Conner sitting at the back, Ben opted to join him. It was a bit strange, as he usually sat right up front, but he could see the uncertainty on the other boys face. Taking his seat silently, he hear one of the others speak up, talking about Angels Trumpet.

Ah.

When the silence loomed over the classroom, Mycroft felt his expectations lowered. Had he given them too hard of a task already? Perhaps he should have dumbed it down a bit for the moment. Yes people were talking, but they also weren't truly listening to the hints. Others avoided eye-contact and some seemed like they were in the moon.

"Professor, could it be powdered Angels Trumpet? It's got heavily narcotic effects so that would account for the blood pressure and dizziness, not to mention the reaction in the nervous system.  It's relatively fast acting, but not especially so if it can be countered with a bezeor. Looking over immediately to Marilyn, he waved his wand and Jake's body, as well as Mari's body became desks once more. The defening silence loomed over them as he studied her. Slowly he nodded, actually relieved that someone managed to answer it, without excuses, without hesitation but rather a statement with support towards her reasoning.

"Very good Miss Caldwell, perhaps we need more people like you in this classroom now-"

His blue eyes immediately went towards the door as it was opened and glared already angry that someone dared to be late. Mr. Watson? He'd forgotten the boy had even signed up for this class let alone attend it late. This wasn't Hogwarts, he should send the boy back. Instead he figured, he'd be merciful and begin teaching him before he even managed to sit down.

"Thank you for gracing us with your presence Mr. Watson. Now tell me, what the poison is, and give me a solution. You are on an undercover mission and you are both at a pub, very dingy dirty, typical for the lower class of Eastern Europe. You order your meals and you find yourself with a meal, your partner, she decides to go for a soup and some sweet cider. You both eat and soon enough she begins to complain. Saying that the lighting seemed too bright, and that she wasn't able to keep a clear vision. You figure it's the alcoholic drink, that's causing that slurred speech that follows but soon she begins to convulse" he waved his wand as the body began to do so, "she begins to hallucinate and murmur nonsense. Her skin begins to turn red, a rash begins to cover her body, and she pats her head, signaling that her heart is beating far too quickly and her bowel control is lost. The people around you begin to run and you are left alone to figure out what was the cause, and how to fix it. Go"

The body began to gasp and choke doing the movements that were narrated by him. Water began to come from her orifices simulating bowel movements.

Ben knew that look. Professor Holmes was known for looks like that. Ones that would make the younger students wish they'd never been born. Up until now, though, he'd never been the subject of such scrutiny. But then, he'd never had to balance a life outside of the school with classes, with the way Hogwarts was. Pursing his lips, Ben took what was thrown at him.

He listened carefully as the scene was laid out for him. It would have been harder to analyze, if it had just been said. But as the symptoms were rattled off, his desk formed into a lifelike dummy, displaying the infliction.

Shit. His heart began to race as he envisioned not the woman that was described, but his friend. Looking over at the other boy, Ben's jaw clenched as his mind flitted through the various poisons he'd been studying.

Light sensitivity. Pupils? He moved to the convulsing body, leaning over and prying its lids apart. They were dilated. Convulsing. Hallucinations.

"Henbane?" he murmured, more to himself. Looking down at the arm closest to him, though, he paused. The skin wasn't just flushed. It was, like Mycroft said, an actual rash.

Rash. What else...Hyoscyamine. Scopolamine. What else! Closing his eyes, he worked through similar things. He was about to give up, when it hit him. His eyes flicking open and up to the professor, his face was guarded. He was sure, but not overly so.

"Belladonna, Sir." That was only the first part though. Standing straight, his eyes moved over the still flexing body. "I don't know what exactly would reverse it, though. Other than the usual antidotes. Would those be strong enough?"

He knew that he had stumped Benjamin with his own situation, and the quiet that loomed over the whole classroom was enough for him to know that this was harder than the boy had expected. Mycroft tapped his foot rhythmically, waiting for him to answer. So far no one had exactly given him what he had asked, instead they had either completely botched it, or guessed half of a solution, and at the moment it seemed that it would happen again.

Finally, Benjamin spoke aloud and Mycroft raised his brow surprised at the fact that he had managed to find the actual answer that he was looking for, but then he immediately botched it with a lazy way to find a solution. Sighing he made the bodies disappear in the classroom and put everything back in place.

"Mr. Watson, you are one of two students that managed to get the cause of the potion correct, and for that I applaud you, but your mediocre answer towards how to cure it, just shows that you care about this class as much as you cared about being on time. Don't ever be late to my class, and that goes for all of you. If you're late don't even bother coming in, I mean it" he said.

Hopping on his desk, he wiped his hands clean, as if there was something on them and then figured that the lesson had gone long enough. Figuring he could tell them about the next lesson and their assignment.

"Your assignment is to choose a natural poison that you find in nature and indigenous to our geography and bring it to class with it's side-effects and a probably way for it to be ingested. For our next lesson, we will be outside and camping, so be prepared for when I send the owl of our next meeting. Now get out of my sight, and be ready for the next rigorous lesson. Dismissed"
