| 'Cragons are a breed between crups and dragons. They're a brand new experiment, so not everything is known about them. Some of them have scales and hide, like dragons, some resemble dragons more than dogs, and some look more like Jack Russel terriers than others.
Their blood, livers and heart are highly magical and valuable. While they all have wings and can fly somewhat, it is unknown whether they would be able to fly well when older. They cannot breathe fire as of yet, but that doesn't stop them from trying. Every once in a while, they would sneeze and smoke would come out of their snouts.
In case they do start breathing fire, immediately call me and back away.
Their tails are forked, just like those of crups, but we won't be cutting them away, like we do with crups.
They are ferocious towards Muggles. While they are nicer towards wizards, they still distrust them and would hurt them if necessary. These are only cubs now, so they can't really do you any damage. Once they get to know someone - a wizard or a witch - and they see that the person is worth trusting, they become extremely loyal. Treat them with respect and they will respect you in turn.
Diet: Like crups, they will eat anything, but they do prefer meat. There's raw steaks prepared for you to feed them, but if they eat anything else, it won't be a big deal.
They have talons, like dragons and you'll have to cut them, with a painless Severing Charm. Make sure you do not hurt the Cragons.
If they have scales, you will polish them with the paste you can find in the basket I gave you. Put some paste on the provided cloth and polish the scales. If they are rough-coated, like crups, you'll comb them with the dog comb, make sure there's no knots.
They'll want to fly around and it is encouraged that they do. I ask you to make sure they don't hurt themselves and to help them stay in the air. You can play with them, get their trust, don't hurt them and enjoy yourselves.

| Rhian exhaled into the cold air, her breath misting before her. Looking at the creatures in their pens, she couldn't help but wish they'd had this lesson in the spring time. The Cragons would be a bit older then, and a bit harder to handle, but it would have been warm at least.
Still, if they did manage to breathe fire, it would be a plus. Smiling gently, she walked over to the indicated pen, not really caring what the other girls did. They were grouped together, but weren't told they had to work as such. She figured she'd take the time to get to know the creatures on her own.
There were three of them in the pen, probably on purpose. Instead of heading straight to them, though, she grabbed a few items out of the baskets provided and walked in, heading towards a corner. The brush and polish were set into the snow next ot her, with the piece of meat set behind her. She'd pull it out when she was ready. With her legs stretched out in the snow in front of her, and her hands in an open, placating gesture, she nestled in to wait.
Rhian wouldn't say she was an animal witch, not particularly. But the small creatures were rather cute. The one closest to her raised its ears, sniffing delicately in her direction. When it looked over at her, however, she chose to look down at the snow, avoiding eye contact. The Gryffindor really know why, but it seemed like the thing to do. Not to challenge it.
Slowly, she heard little paws moving towards her. A grin spread across her face as the furry snout came into her view, sniffing at her boots. "Hi," she whispered lightly, trying to be as soft as possible. It fidgeted away from her a few steps, its nose twitching in unease. Daring to look up, Rhian met its eyes then, watching closely as she crooked her fingers slightly. After a few more minutes, it moved closer to her hand, along the line of her body.
Before she knew it, the animal was nudging at her hand, asking to be pet. It let out small mewling noises, almost whining in a way. It was being so good that she decided to try feeding it (her, she just decided to think of it). Reaching back behind her, Rhian grabbed the piece of meat and presented the little creature with it. Quicker than she anticipated, it grabbed the piece out of her hands and tore into it. It laid down in the snow to do so, and gave the witch the opportunity to feel along its body, admiring the scales.
The rest of her time in the pen was spent much the same way with the Cragon, taking time to polish the scales that lined its flanks. Near the end of the lesson, the creature had eventually crawled into Rhian's lap and started to doze, content to lay there and be pet. Feeling a strange sense of rightness, Rhian wondered if this could maybe be something to think of later. | |
