Christmas Day, the Newbury Way (Jari & Victoria) Empty
PostSubject: Christmas Day, the Newbury Way (Jari & Victoria)   Christmas Day, the Newbury Way (Jari & Victoria) EmptySat Oct 11, 2014 9:19 am

After leaving Marilyn at home, with a number of kisses goodbye, Jake had apparated home for six a.m. and had barely sat himself on the sofa when Victoria burst through the door, a very sleepy Henry in tow, and Alexis only a few paces behind. When the witch saw him, Victoria ran in to his arms and cuddled him happily. "Merry Christmas, Jake!" Victoria told him happily, letting him go and hurrying off to make a cup of tea for everyone.

Jake merely chuckled softly at Victoria left, turning to his parents and giving them a hug and wishing them Happy Christmas. After explaining he'd already eaten ("Have you eaten enough?" Alexis had asked, raising an eyebrow.) his mom had left to get everyone else some food and Victoria had brought it all out on a tray, moving to her presents a moment later. Well, after giving everyone else a present to open first.

From his parents, Jake had received some new socks and boxers because he didn't really need much any more, and from Victoria, he had received a new broom repair and maintenance kit. There was little more for Jake, not that he minded, he'd never liked a fuss from his parents in this way. When they got to the back of the tree, Jake had hidden Mari's gifts for last, and each of them had taken up the boxes. Alexis had managed to unwrap hers first, and let out a small noise of shock. "It's beautiful! Oh, Merlin this must have cost..." Alexis shook her head, and gently moved to put it on the mantle piece where it looked great.

Henry's reaction was much the same, his lips tugging in to a smile at the carefully crafted pen. He didn't comment, but the smile was enough for Jake to know he appreciated it. But, Victoria's reaction trumped all. The squeal of happiness that left Victoria's mouth as she opened the box was ear splitting, and Jake let out a soft chuckle. "This is so beautiful!" Came Victoria's still overly high voice as she stood up with the dress, holding it against herself to show everyone, and then quickly exchanging it for the other. "Can I wear one of them today?" Victoria asked her mom a moment later.

"Of course you can." Alexis replied with a warm smile, carefully tidying away the wrapping paper. At that, Victoria carefully lifted her presents and hurried off upstairs, leaving the adults to themselves for a while.

"What time are Pops and Grandma going to be here?" Jake asked his mom. Her parents lived far enough away that they could only make it for Christmas, but it was enough really.

"Oh, they'll be over this afternoon." Alexis replied with a smile. "They decided to stay over tonight instead. Are you staying, with Mari?" She asked, and Jake nodded.

"I think so, maybe a couple of days, I'm planning on going up to Canada to see the boys. I don't know if Marilyn wants to come, but that's my plan." Jake explained to his mom, sitting back in his chair. "If that's okay, of course?"

"Of course, of course!" Alexis replied, never being one to shy away from people being over. In fact, she loved it because it meant she could worry over more people, and cook food and just look after people.

Victoria was back a few moments later, wearing her dress and grinning. "This is so comfortable, it's amazing! Can I help you with the cooking, mommy?" Victoria asked, to which came a nod.

The morning passed relatively quickly, helping to get everything ready for their guests. Jake was running errands and getting the table ready as much as he could, until his grandparents came. Jake had hurried to let them in, taking their suitcase as they stepped in to the house from the Floo Network. "Happy Christmas, pops, grandma!" He told them, giving his grandma a hug and receiving a kiss in return before he shook his grandfather's hand.

That, meant it was film time, or in Victoria's books at least. Pulling out a new Disney film, everyone except Alexis sat down with the witch to watch. Jake had let Marilyn know what time dinner was, so it was just time to wait until it was served at three p.m. Jake lost interest in the film after a short while, instead turning to his grandfather and discussing the Quidditch with him. Despite him no longer playing, his granddad still kept up with the Moose Jaw Meteorites, and in honesty it was quite nice.

As the time grew closer to three, Jake moved to help his mom with the table, laying everything out on the table that would only just fit the seven of them around. But, hopefully, everyone would enjoy themselves. "Have you got the salt and pepper, Jake?" Alexis asked, making Jake hurry to collect them and put them on the table.

"Please don't pick Mari up for not eating too much, mom, yeah?" Jake asked his mom as he righted everything on the table once more.

"I won't, dear. Just so long as she eats enough to fill her up, that's all I want!" Alexis replied with a smile as Jake checked his watch. "Stop fussing over the time, she'll be here when she's ready. Everything will stay warm!"

"I know, mom!" Jake told her with a smile, leaving back for the sitting room so that he'd be by the fire if Marilyn chose the Floo Network. Everything was ready, so they were simply waiting for the witch to arrive.

PostSubject: Re: Christmas Day, the Newbury Way (Jari & Victoria)   Christmas Day, the Newbury Way (Jari & Victoria) EmptySat Oct 11, 2014 10:45 am

After hanging out with her best friend (Mari was still blushing slightly when she thought of the gifts she recieved in her bag, along with clothes for the next few days) Marilyn was finally ready for the Newburys. Well, as ready as she would be. She, in typical Caldwell style, had put on her 'armour', her dark lips and perfectly styled hair, a strand of pearls and probably priceless earrings. And most importantly, her bracelet. The witch had even dusted her eyelids with golden, dark eye shadow. The process of getting ready was always one that gave her an extra push of energy and confidence.

So that she had done after a nap to accomodate the time difference, and checking her watch she apparated, small poinsietta in hand for his grandparents, and with a crack! she landed on her feet in the stairway from Jake's room down to the house and upon hearing noises downstairs she figured it'd be best to go down. It was a quarter til three. The witch had not so much as heard a peep from her grandparents, no doubt Jamie would at some point apparate in, but she'd left a note explaining her absence and from the moment she'd set it on the table she'd decided not to think on it anymore.

On her way down the hallway she caught the familiar sight of styled hair and a smile spread across her features, "Jake!" in only an instant she was in his arms, her own wrapped around his neck in an affectionate hug, refraining from going for a kiss because she noticed his grandparents out of the corner of her eye, smiling politely at them and standing still near Jake, unconsciously, but not shying away, simply letting him do introductions.

Jake had been waiting, checking his watch occasionally before he heard a small crack of apparition up the stairs. Marilyn must have decided against the Floo because of the mess, and he couldn't say he blamed her. Noticing the witch in the hallway, Jake moved across the room to meet her, welcoming the hug that was more than natural now. Pressing a light kiss to the witch's cheek, Jake took her hand gently in his own as she let go.

"Safe journey, I gather?" Jake added softly, though he could see that it had been. "Introductions, anyway. Mari, meet my grandma, Alice." He explained as his grandma gave a small wave from where she was sat and a small smile as she took Marilyn in. "And my pops, Edgar." He added, as his grandfather got up and came over to them. His grandma was less able on her feet now, so didn't like to move too much, but despite his age, Edgar liked to be polite.

"It's very nice to meet you, Marilyn." He told the witch, leaning in to kiss her cheek and smile warmly at the witch. "We were quite surprised to hear Jake had gotten another girlfriend, but we can't say his safety won't be certain with a woman such as yourself!" The man explained, a warm twinkle in his eyes as he let out a soft laugh. "You'll have to tell me about the training later, both of you, I had a friend in the Ministry, many years ago now, but he was very hush hush about his department!"

"Now, Edgar, leave them be, you know they're not really supposed to tell anyone!" Alice told her husband, though a smile was touching her features, so she wasn't being overly firm.

"Dinner's ready every- MARI!" Victoria had bounced in to the room, and upon noticing Marilyn had hurried to her and given her a hug. "Happy Christmas! I'm so glad you made it! Thank you for my present, it looks great, don't you think?" Victoria told the witch, stepping back to show the witch before taking her hand. "You have to come see the table before Jake and Daddy get there, it looks amazing! And you can sit next to me!" Victoria told the witch, happily leading her to the dinner table.

Jake, let out a soft laugh, watching the two go and helping his grandma to her feet and then to the table. He slipped in to a chair beside Mari though, taking her hand under the table and giving it a soft squeeze. Leaning a little closer, Jake whispered, "Just eat what you can, don't mind mom's fussing."

With that, Alexis told them to tuck in, and Jake helped himself to the nearest plate of vegetables, putting some on Marilyn's plate too, but not nearly as many as he'd put on his own.

"So how did you two meet?" Alice asked, looking to Mari more than her grandson. "Our darling daughter said to ask the two of you because she wasn't sure. Do you remember when Alexis and Henry first met, Edgar? Oh they were so in love!" His grandma explained, her hand on her chest as she remembered the moment. "For a whole summer we had Alexis fawning over this boy from Salem. Asking if he could come to tea. And then Henry shows up, dressed much too over the top for our humble abode. The two of you were so cute!" The gushing had caused Alexis to go bright red, and Henry to smile at his wife.

Victoria was also grinning, looking to Marilyn for an answer, because she'd always forgotten to ask Jake how it happened.

Christmas Day, the Newbury Way (Jari & Victoria) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Christmas Day, the Newbury Way (Jari & Victoria)   Christmas Day, the Newbury Way (Jari & Victoria) EmptySat Oct 11, 2014 11:47 am

"Yeah, I was aiming for the living room, but ended up on the stairs." Mari responded in answer to if she had a safe trip, enjoying the kiss on the cheek before she was kissed on the cheek by his grandfather before she could finish a "Pleased to meet you" and a sliver of surprise wormed its way into her expression but only for a moment, but then it was replaced by a polite smile. "It's nice to meet both of you, happy Christmas." She smiled, handing Edgar the poinsietta, partially because she'd intended it as a nice, small gift and partially then so he'd have something in his hands that would hopefully keep him from hugging or kissing her.

Luckily in that moment Victoria came bouncing in and after accidently blinking Marilyn found her arms full of the young hufflepuff and smiled, hugging her back, "You look beautiful, as always, Victoria, I'm glad you like it. How've your holidays been?"

"You have to come see the table before Jake and Daddy get there, it looks amazing! And you can sit next to me!"

"Sounds great," Marilyn followed the girl, shooting Jake an amused look before sitting next to Victoria. The table really did look beautiful but the knot in her stomach seemed to be both growing and tightening, and at Jakes whispered words, meant as reassurance, her cheeks tinged red. The witch was not ashamed of what she'd been through, but being who she was she was still wildly uncomfortable about her recovery, rehabilitation, and all issues accompanying it. The only reason she hadn't brought Jagger, though she was supposed to, was because she didn't want to impose.

"So how did you two meet?"

Marilyn nearly dropped her glass of water, but managed to remain steady and cool, only Jake might pick up on the slightest shift in her stature. "Well, Jake...sort of...took charge of my rehabilitation after my...return." She answered slowly, eyes fixed on a random place on the tablecloth. "And we became best friends."

PostSubject: Re: Christmas Day, the Newbury Way (Jari & Victoria)   Christmas Day, the Newbury Way (Jari & Victoria) EmptySat Oct 11, 2014 2:04 pm

His grandparents had simply smiled when she said it was nice to meet them, she had to say that, much as she may not always mean it. But then, he wasn't much better, if truth be told.

"You look beautiful, as always, Victoria, I'm glad you like it. How've your holidays been?"

"Oh! They've been great, I went down to Mexico a couple of days ago to meet my friend, Allegra! She lives with her family in this really cool house, but they live with two men too, Jack and Armando and they have a daughter Carla. It's such a nice house they have! And Mexico..." Victoria shook her head. "It's just beautiful!" She breathed, her smile growing as she remembered everything.

As they tucked in to dinner, Jake hadn't quite been ready for the questions, but he guessed their relationship was probably a little bit of a mystery to many people. Jake had slowed his eating as Marilyn spoke, just in case she needed him, because a mouthful of turkey was most certainly not going to be helpful. But Marilyn handled it well.

"We started doing things together after that, dance class, hanging out with each other. Then, it just happened, we decided we wanted to try things as... as a couple. And so far I think it's working well." Jake added, pushing away the way things had started before his grandma could ask too many questions and put Marilyn in an awkward position.

However, it seemed Alice was happy enough with everything. "Well, I think it's wonderful, you both look very happy together." Alice supplied, smiling warmly. "And what about you, Victoria? Have you found your Prince Charming?"

Victoria reply was instant. "Oh no, grandma. I'm concentrating on my studies first!" She explained, not seeing a flaw in her plan at all. Jake, physically relaxed at this knowledge, because Merlin he did not need to be worrying about that. Dinner, from there turned to lighter subjects, how Jake's work was going at the schools, how their dancing was going, how Alexis had managed such an amazing dinner. Nothing too deep.

When they were finished (Jake close to bursting as he cleaned Marilyn's plate off for her) Alexis levitated everything away and to clean itself after shutting the blinds and everyone moved to the sitting room, Victoria bringing around glasses of wine for the adults on her mother's instructions.

Jake had sat on the floor, allowing space for his mom when she had finished fussing and motioned for Marilyn to sit between his legs so they could cuddle a little bit. As she sat, Edgar piped up again. "So what do you do specifically, Marilyn? I know you're an Auror, but I'm pretty sure you can specialise..." He asked, genuinely interested in the witch's work.

"Mexico? That's great, I'm glad you liked it, is Allegra a friend from school?" She inquired, interested in how a Mexican girl, like herself, had ended up in Hogwarts, in Scotland. Though she was not surprised at how Victoria seemed to become friends with anyone and everyone; it was quite cute, really.

"We started doing things together after that, dance class, hanging out with each other. Then, it just happened, we decided we wanted to try things as... as a couple. And so far I think it's working well."

"I think so, too,"
she mused with a soft smile, kissing his cheek chastly before returning to her food, grateful for the light conversation and adding to the compliments on the food, though Mari was glad Jake finished off for her as she still couldn't eat much. All in all the meal was not overly difficult, but challenging, for the witch, who was nevertheless reassured by the cool temperature of the delicate bracelet on her arm that she constantly played with.

And she was playing with it when Jake motioned for her to sit between his legs, so she did, tucking her long legs carefully so her skirt didn't ride up, leaning her back against Jakes chest and interlocking their fingers with an affectionate smile up at him, only looking away when Edgar posed a question.

"So what do you do specifically, Marilyn? I know you're an Auror, but I'm pretty sure you can specialise..."

"I haven't officially specialized, because I'm not really an Auror, yet,"
Mari's smile grew, "But I develope magical equiptment for the Auror department and I'm trying to get into as much field work as possible." she refrained from any details, but nuzzled into Jake's arms, more relaxed. Her job always provided her with comfort and just the thought made her reach for her armband once more.

"Mexico? That's great, I'm glad you liked it, is Allegra a friend from school?"

"Yes! She joined Hogwarts with me this year as something of a cultural exploration. She's really nice, we met on the train on the way to the school, and we've been friends ever since. We're in the same house too!" Victoria explained, her smile growing as she talked about her friend.

But Jake was more concentrated on Mari, smiling as she kissed his cheek. It was nice, at least, that they agreed on that much, or else he'd look a complete idiot in front of his whole family. However, worry wasn't necessary as the rest of dinner went well, and they took their place in the sitting room, Jake quite glad that they could relax after so much food.

With their fingers entwined with one another, Jake rested his head on the chair behind him, completely full, and tired now. But he listened to the conversation going on, a fond smile on his lips as she spoke. "That sounds really interesting!" Edgar replied, nodding eagerly. "What are you working on at the moment?" Edgar pushed, trying to get more. He was harmless, just intrigued with the work. He'd only had a small time job in the Ministry when he was working, nothing of importance, and no where near the Auror squads. Jake couldn't remember himself.

Alice was to the rescue a moment later though. "Your bracelet is goblin made." She stated, having an eye for such things from when she'd worked in the bank, many, many years ago. "Did Jake buy you that?" She asked, to which Jake shook his head. He didn't give any more information though, that was Marilyn's place to explain, not his own.

PostSubject: Re: Christmas Day, the Newbury Way (Jari & Victoria)   Christmas Day, the Newbury Way (Jari & Victoria) EmptySat Oct 11, 2014 3:20 pm

Marilyn was absentmindedly cuddling Jake in the relaxed atmosphere, her head resting back on his shoulder as her eyes were focused on his grandfather, smiling apologetically when he asked his questions, "I'm not at liberty to say much really, security reasons." The witch had been in the midst of kissing Jakes cheek when his grandmother cut in with an observation and an inquiry that caused her to freeze momentarily, heat flushing her cheeks.

"Did Jake buy you that?"

Marilyn barely registered Jake's shake of the head, her brain scrambling for a way to form an answer that wouldn't sound...well. Her relationship to Louis was somehow difficult to explain to those who didn't know him, or her very well. She admired him, he was her mentor. He was her professor and the witch respected him above all else, but Mari was also very fond of her mentor and she knew he was fond of her. It wasn't something that needed outright saying. But the relationship was purely respectful and affectionate. Never romantic or sexual, as some might gossip.

"No it- it was a gift from my Professor, L- Clement." She corrected, figuring she wouln't be doing herself any favours using his first name, "He's the head of the Auror training," Mari added, as if that would help, honestly it just seemed to make it worse, "It was a birthday present," She finished, somewhat less relaxed and no longer leaning on Jake as much, unsure of what he'd think.

"I'm not at liberty to say much really, security reasons."

Edgar looked disappointed, but nodded his understanding. He was a naturally inquisitive man, something he'd shared with Victoria throughout the years. But Edgar sat back, sipping his glass of wine as Victoria sat on the sofa with him, giving her granddad a cuddle.

The conversation turned to Marilyn's bracelet soon after though, and Jake, already knowing the story, simply ran his thumb over Mari's hand, not paying close attention because he was okay with it. Well, he was okay with the notion, he wasn't okay with the fact that he'd not thought of it himself, but that was for another time. Nor was that Marilyn's fault.

He could, however, see his grandma raise her eyebrow when Marilyn explained that it was the Head of their training. Jake didn't see a problem with it, personally, he was a very understanding of Marilyn's friendship with the professor, and it was, in reality, a good thing that she had a friend. As the witch moved away from him slightly, however, Jake did become a little uncertain, but didn't say anything.

"He sounds like a lovely man." Alice settled on after a while. She'd made the assumptions on the type of man he was from the gift, but didn't voice them, because now was not the time. Instead, the topic moved to Victoria and how she was doing at Hogwarts, listening to how she'd made so many friends (not that anyone found this surprising).

Hours ticked by without much going on, Victoria pulled out a board game and made everyone play until it was getting on and with the witch barely sleeping the night before, she'd retired just after eight that evening. "Excitement always gets the young ones, you'll understand one day!" Alice told Mari with a warm smile, getting to her feet with the aid of her husband. "But then it gets to the old too!" She added with a small laugh. "Good night, everyone. And a merry Christmas to you all!" She added, shuffling off upstairs.

Which left Alexis and Henry with the couple. Henry who was almost falling asleep, and Alexis shaking him gently every couple of moments. "I think I'm going to have to put him to bed too. Thank you both for coming over, it's been a lovely Christmas with no mishaps. And, of course, it's lovely to have you share our family traditions with us, Mari. It's a little different from yours... but I hope you've enjoyed yourself." With that she gently goaded her husband from her seat and led him off upstairs, leaving the young couple alone where Jake let out a soft sigh.

"The food always gets to them. All asleep by nine!" He chuckled, kissing Mari's neck lightly. "Did you want to stay down here for a bit, or do you want to head to bed too?" Jake asked, knowing the time difference was a killer at best.

PostSubject: Re: Christmas Day, the Newbury Way (Jari & Victoria)   Christmas Day, the Newbury Way (Jari & Victoria) EmptySat Oct 11, 2014 4:39 pm

"He sounds like a lovely man."

"He's brilliant." Marilyn replied, unblinking and without missing a beat. She wasn't engaging in an inappropriate relationship with him, but she'd always rise to his defense, no matter how it made her look. But there was no further discussion of this, as this was neither the time nor place, thankfully, but Mari noticed that her distance seemed to affect Jake and regretted it, but was unsure what to do about it.

Soon there was distraction in a board game, but Mari didn't really relax, though she put on a good show, smiling at Victoria when she went to bed after another warm hug. Of the Newbury's besides Jake Victoria was the one Marilyn got along with best and Mari adored her. Of course, it was hard for anyone to not adore Victoria. But Marilyn wasn't just charmed by a first impression of a bubbly girl, she genuinly cared for Victoria and would protect the girl fiercly from anything and anyone that tried to harm her.

And later Marilyn was polite to Alice, simply not reacting to the 'someday you'll understand' and wishing them a Merry Christmas as was good manners. Alexis, however, recieved a warmer smile; one of genuine gratitude that she was invited to share this with her family. "Thank you, Alexis, it was great, everything, thank you." the witch smiled, lacing her hand into Jakes.

"Did you want to stay down here for a bit, or do you want to head to bed too?"

The kiss to her neck was a good sign, but Mari wanted to make very sure they were okay, so after sighing softly from the kiss she turned her head to capture his lips in a slow, building kiss, turning in his lap to straddle him, just to face him, "Jake..." she murmured, "You know that I'd never do anything like that with Louis, with anyone...right?" The witch bit her lip, her face only centimeters away from his as her big brown eyes looked into his.

As everyone left, Jake relaxed, there wasn't anything more his family could throw their way now, and in fairness, Marilyn had seemed to be relatively calm all evening. Obviously, everything was much less uptight with his family, but he knew Marilyn well enough to know even this would have been hard. And he appreciated it.

The kiss that came, and the shift from Marilyn to look at him was one Jake welcomed, pulling her closer to him and gently kissing her back.

"Jake..." she murmured, "You know that I'd never do anything like that with Louis, with anyone...right?"

Frowning, Jake pulled away from the witch, only slightly so that he could see her expression. It wasn't a teasing expression, rather quite serious. "Do what?" Jake asked, not completely understanding, before he realised what she meant. "You and Clement are friends, I don't think there is anything more to it. You wouldn't be here if it were." Jake told the witch. He was confident enough in their relationship to believe that if Marilyn didn't like him enough to stay faithful then she would leave, so any man she spoke to, or was friends with, wasn't a threat, in his mind.

"I trust you."

"I trust you."

There was a time in Marilyn's life where her only response to those words would have been a sour 'don't.' But that had been quite a while ago. Now she was a different witch, slowly but surely, and now she just kissed him again, deeper than before, one hand in his hair and the other reaching down to hold his. And he was right to trust her; there was no person in the world she would rather be with than with Jake and no one could ever tempt her away.

"Good," she murmured, kissing his cheek softly, "Because I," she kissed his jaw line, "Belong," she kissed the corner of his lips, "With you." Mari kissed him tenderly, very gently and affectionately. The couple continued like this for a few moments, kissing and murmuring to each other before the mischievous glint returned to Mari's eye, "You'll never guess what Helen bought us for Christmas..." The witch leaned forward and whispered it in his ear, smirking as she watched his reaction.

The kisses and her words that were punctuated by them made Jake smile. They were sweet, and he was quite sure Mari meant them. She wouldn't say them if she didn't, his mind reasoned. His parents, and grandparents could think what they liked about the gift, but Jake knew it was to keep her safe. In reality, he was thankful to their professor, for looking out for the witch, his opinion was not swayed with jealousy.

Jake simply smiled when the witch said she belonged to him. Kissing her softly, Jake didn't know what to say to that, it was sweet and he didn't think that he needed to reply. It would be too cliché, and despite everything he didn't wish to be the kind of man that outdid her.

"You'll never guess what Helen bought us for Christmas..."

As Marilyn whispered in his ear, Jake's eyes widened slightly, the explanation had been vague, but he simply raised an eyebrow at Marilyn. "Really?" He asked, a playful smirk on his lips.

"Really?"

Marilyn smirked and bit her lip in a show of vague interest, "Well I brought them along in my bag, if only we were upstairs I could show-" Her words cut off with a laugh as Jake scooped her up and carried her upstairs, arms wrapping around his neck as she kissed him, only breaking the kiss to cast a locking and silencing charm...just in case.

And there the couple stayed until the next morning, and all the worries outside those four walls utterly forgotten as the two remained in the safety of the room they'd first kissed in, first come together in.
