After the first lesson of the day had gone well, Jake was in good spirits after the break. He knew that the next lesson would be a little more difficult than the one before. Setting up the room with chairs around the edge of the room, focused on a trunk in the middle of the room.

Moving to sit on top of the trunk, Jake looked to the door to see who would come in to the lesson first. Jake checked the board to see the subject neatly writing himself.

"Boggarts."

After the near-fiasco in the last lesson with Lupa the girl had told her dog to stay on her bed until she returned from lessons. That hadn't sat terribly well, but she'd complied with one last lick to the hand that stroked her shaking back. So now Allegra was heading to DADA in her now somewhat accesorized version of the uniform. A guy in her common room had helped her charm a button to flash from a turning earth to a recycling sign and it was proudly displayed on her blouse, sleeves rolled up, shirt tucked into her skirt.

With a grin and a warm, "Hello, Jake!" she entered the room, seeing the chairs at the wall and sitting in one and looking at the board. Boggarts.

Oh no.

Victoria was excited for her next class, for one, she got to see her big brother, but secondly, because it was the lesson just before lunch, and today she'd seen that they would be having a very special lunch. Or so the menu had said that morning when she'd read it. Slipping in to the class, Victoria smiled warmly to her brother, she slipped in to the seat next to Allegra.

"Morning Jake!" She acknowledged her brother, straightening the hat she was wearing and looking to Allegra. "Morning! I have one of these for you in our dormitory!" She explained, pointing to her Santa hat. All for the festive spirit, as ever, Victoria was.

Alexander was not overly fond of classes, hence he went to the bare minimum to get him through the year. Otherwise, he didn't do very much at all. Simply lazing around the Slytherin Common Room most of the day, until he got bored and decided to go for a run. But today was one of those days where he actually decided to go to class, and after climbing up three sets of stairs, he was finally in the classroom he wanted to be.

Opening the door, he mumbled the professor's name, and after noting the other two girls looked way too cheery to be in class he moved to the opposite side of the room. Taking a seat and waiting for more people.

Beatrice was not in a good mood. Christmas was nearing, which meant going back to France and to her family and being away from her friends. She did not like the prospect of that. Plus, she had Prefect duty that evening and she had to walk around, telling people not to do things she herself was dying to do.

She walked to DADA, a class she actually liked and waved to everybody and went to sit next to Allegra. She muttered hi to her friends before looking up at the board.

Boggarts.

Well, this was just a perfect subject for the miserable day Beatrice has been having. Nothing like the thing you fear most popping up in front of you to cheer you up.

At least Victoria seemed to be in a good mood, judging by the Santa hat she was wearing. Bea flashed her a smile before going back to brooding.

It was time to second lessons and to be honest Carmen didn't feel any better still. She didn't know how to go on with her life at all anymore. She had noone really beside her. She couldn't trust her friends since most of them didn't know real her at all. She sighed awhile she walked towards the classroom.

After few minutes walking she walked into the classroom and took a seat back at the classroom. Girl didn't even bother to say hello today. She looked at the board and noticed that today they will talk about Boggarts. She sighed one time again. She really wasn't sure what could be hers. She knew she should know by now but girl had no idea.

Students entered relatively soon after he'd readied himself, and with each student that entered, Jake acknowledged them with a soft 'good morning' to each of them. When they'd all entered, Jake stood from the trunk, causing it to shake a little with the freedom, but he ignored it.

"Right, let's get started, shall we?" Jake acknowledged the class, bringing his hands together. This lesson was one that Jake liked to teach, of course, it was scary to a lot of people, but if the students could pull it off, it was very, very rewarding. For the students, and himself. "As you may have noticed by now, we will be looking at Boggarts. Let's see what we know, shall we? Go for a single point in your answer, so that others get a go."

Beatrice looked around, hoping someone would answer first, but then nobody seemed to be interested. The girl gave a small sigh and raised her hand, trying to focus on the subject and not on how attractive the Professor was. Honestly, everyone at this school was so pretty, it really wasn't fair. Jake, however, was Victorie's brother and Beatrice had a feeling the Hufflepuff wouldn't appreciate her having a crush on her brother.

"They personify your worst fear." the Ravenclaw said, her dislike of the creatures clearly present in her tone. She could think of so many things she was afraid of, and honestly didn't know what her worst fear would be. She didn't want to find out, but apparently would. Soon.

Victoria had noted the subject, and her smile had faded a fair amount. She knew that Jake was only trying to ready them for real life, but even Victoria could say that it had, perhaps, been bad planning on Jake's behalf to believe that teaching Boggarts was a good idea. Instead of saying this, however, Victoria simply listened as the lesson began and listened as Beatrice answered.

Beatrice didn't sound amused, so Victoria decided to counter her tones, not maliciously, but because she didn't wish to hurt Jake's feelings.

"The spell to repel and defeat Boggarts is the charm Riddikulus." Victoria supplied in a ton probably much too happy for this lesson, but the witch couldn't help herself.

As two answers came, Jake nodded to the witches who had answered. "Well done Beatrice, Victoria, both answers are correct. Take five points for your houses." Jake acknowledged their answers before looking to the rest of the class. No one else seemed to wish to venture an answer to the question, so Jake decided to move on.

"Okay, so from what we know they show your worst fears, and you have the incantation of Riddikulus. Now, whilst these are both true, we have to remember that to combat the spell, you must make the fear become funny. For example, if you had a spider as your fear, you would make it funny by... adding roller skates to it's legs so it falls over. Or, if you were afraid of a person, you dress them up in ridiculous clothes that make them look amusing. There are many possibilities, but this is what you're aiming for, laughter. Laughter repels boggarts. Today, we will be trying to combat boggarts. Do not worry if you can't do this first time, it is complex. Everyone will come forward one at a time and give it a go.

"So, if there aren't any questions, who would like to go first?" Jake asked, looking around the class for the first person.

PostSubject: Re: DADA - Lesson 2 (Years 4 & 5)   DADA - Lesson 2 (Years 4 & 5) EmptyWed Oct 22, 2014 2:46 am

Victoria had smiled when she'd received five points for her answer, completely aware that like always she'd done well. That wasn't to say she was big headed, oh no, Victoria simply pushed herself to achieve as much as she could.

Boggarts, however, were a tricky business.

Having seen them before, but never taking the opportunity to battle one, Victoria felt a little sick with anxiety. Hoping someone else would step up first, the Hufflepuff kept her eyes away from her brother. But nobody seemed to want to step forward.

Pushing herself to her feet and taking out her rosewood wand, Victoria moved to stand before the trunk. Her greatest fear? Victoria already had an idea as she cast a quick look at her brother, nodding to show she was as ready as she was ever going to be.

When the trunk opened, something seemed to start to move in that moment, but Victoria couldn't quite make it out. Tightening her grip on her wand, Victoria noticed she couldn't make it out because it was shifting before her, quickly.

"Just because she can walk now, doesn't mean she isn't still broken!" The voice was angry, and a moment later, Jake's face appeared where the shifting had once been.

"This is true, it may only be temporary. Who knows, a year down the line she could be back in her chair. It's not like miracles really happen." Henry's face replied.

"I told you this was stupid. Our daughter will always be the little girl in the wheelchair." Alexis spat.

Victoria stood horrified at the images before her, blinking profusely as she tried to stop the tears, block out the words. She was no longer broken or dependant on others. She was free.

Raising her wand, Victoria bit her lip, thinking of something funny...

"Ri- Riddikulus!" Victoria spoke clearly, doing the wand motion. Nothing happened.

"Look at her, she can't even protect herself." The boggart of her brother's face sneered.

A sharp breath left Victoria, trying to concentrate again. She could feel her frame shaking with fear now. But she was better that this, she could do this...

Once again, Victoria raised her wand. "Riddikulus!" She said, firmly this time, concentrating on the hand movement. The spell hurtled from her wand, light jetting towards the face that was not really her brothers. It exploded in a flurry of love hearts, which scattered everywhere.

And then the world seemed to come back in to focus, her brother stood before her with a look on his face that she couldn't quite read. Turning away Victoria moved back to sit next to Allegra, breathing deeply and slowly to try to regain some control.

PostSubject: Re: DADA - Lesson 2 (Years 4 & 5)   DADA - Lesson 2 (Years 4 & 5) EmptyWed Oct 22, 2014 1:39 pm

It seemed the class were a little reluctant to give this a go, and Jake couldn't say he was surprised, it wasn't the nicest of tasks he'd set, but he knew that this was important to all people in the class. So when it was his little sister who stepped up first, Jake had to remind himself that he wasn't here as her brother now, he was here as her professor.

However, what he came face-to-face with when he opened the trunk was something he found completely horrifying. The words, the images, the way Victoria's face lost colour and tears appeared. It was almost too much for Jake, but she... she had to fight her own battles. Even when she was struggling, Jake stood, mumbling under his breath that she could do it, waiting for as long as possible to let the witch have a go.

He would talk to her, he would have to talk to her...

"Riddikulus!"

The sound of the spell made Jake look hopefully at his sister, and a few moments later, the room was showered in love hearts. In that moment Jake realised his eyes were stinging with emotion and he quickly righted himself. "Right, well done Victoria!" Jake told the witch after clearing his throat. "Who would like to take a shot at the task next? Don't be afraid, no harm will come to you!"

Alexander hadn't been overly keen on finding out what his worst fear was. Being Pureblood had brought him up in a world where it wasn't okay to have fears, and having more people know of them was unheard of them. So this activity... was not well suited to the Slytherin. He'd waited for as long as possible to try and get out of the whole thing, but when no one seemed to put themselves forward, it seemed Alexander was going to have to give it a shot.

Alexander simply motioned for the Professor to open the trunk once he stood before it, turning his wand in his hand. He wasn't sure what was going to come his way, if he was honest, but Alexander didn't have long to wait.

Before him stood the figure of his father, quite easily distinguishable from the very similar features he shared with the man. Alexander had simply looked him straight in the eye. He was terrified of his father, with very good cause, but he was defiant in his fear of the older Cavendish.

"You, will never inherit my wealth, boy." William Cavendish announced, advancing not a moment later on the Slytherin. Alexander had stood firm, trying to think of something funny like the Hufflepuff had. "Riddikulus!" Alexander had called out, performing the spell as best he could, but to little effect. The Boggart of his father was charging now too, but Alexander wasn't ready to back down.

"RIDDIKULUS!" Alexander bellowed at the thing before him, but it didn't do anything. The Boggart knocked him to the floor effortlessly, and Alexander simply cowered away from it. He never had been very good at performing magic, but he tried...

Jake had watched the Slytherin stepped forward. Unlike most Slytherins, though, this one didn't seem anywhere near as confident as the rest. Jake opened the trunk and waited for the Boggart to take shape.

It wasn't surprising to see that there was a parental figure emerging, a lot of kids would be the same. Jake gave the boy a chance, his wand at the ready. The boy, however, didn't seem to be at all comfortable, so Jake moved closer. As Alexander got shoved to the floor, Jake stepped before the Boggart, already mentally prepared for what was to come.

Before him stood a replica of Victoria, and Jake stepped back slightly his breath hitching slightly.

"I want you to go away, Jake. And never come back!" The boggart of Victoria told him, a ferocity in her eyes that could never be Victoria, accusing.

Jake turned his wand in his hand, biting his lip as he concentrated. He hated this part of the lesson, it got him every time. "Riddikulus!" He called out clearly, watching quite clearly as the boggart changed stance, puppies appearing around them.. "Puppies!" The boggart squealed, chasing them back in to the trunk where it snapped closed.

Breathing out a breath he hadn't known he'd been holding, Jake helped the Slytherin to his feet before moving back to the trunk. "Who would like to go next?" Jake asked softly.

Allegra cast her eyes down as the others faced their boggarts. The girl had never encountered one in real life before, but in her real life her worstfears were something she was often forced to face.

So when i came to be herturn she was pretty sure she knew what shewas going to see. But all thepreparation in the world couldn't dull the blow as the scene formed before her. Her parents were dressed up as they usually were, Mama wearing a white, linen dress and papa had his favorite cat shirt on. They held signs that had anti-PRI slogans, nothing new, but then Allegra heard the sound of stomping, thousands of invisible police. And the screams.

"R-R-"

Gunfire. Nothing new except for the two red rosesofbloodnow blooming on hermothers chest. Her fathers agonized expression as he looked up at his daughter as another shot brought three new roses to bloom on his chest.

Steeling her eyes she cast the spell over and over, growing angier at the sight each time until she had sobs wracking her body and the professor had to step in.

Jake was not a man of the world, he'd never claimed to be. So when he saw the scenario before him, he didn't have a clue what he was seeing. Sheltered, perhaps, but Jake simply watched the girl before him, willing her to succeed in the activity given. He waited, for as long as possible for the witch to have a go, but he could see that she wasn't going to manage it. Motioning to Victoria to help her friend, Jake stepped across the Boggart, seeing Victoria once again and sending her away before the horrors began to unfold.

Jake had turned back to the class a moment later, looking at those before him. Victoria had ushered Allegra away. "Okay everyone, that's enough for today. Homework is to write me a short essay on what you've learnt today, I'll collect it after the holidays. Have a nice break, stay safe, I'll see you all next term." Jake insisted, watching everyone leave before he took a seat on the trunk, running his hands over his face.

That... had not been an easy lesson.

Class now closed.
