Lucas was ready for the older years to try a simple, but interesting Alchemic formula. Turning sand into glass, it wasn't as edible as what the younger years were making later in the day but it would still be a good lesson for them to see how Alchemy worked at a basic level. Setting up the classroom he waited for his older years to arrive.

Skipping down the hall, Victoria pushed the door open. She was the first one there, which for her second term, Victoria wasn't overly surprised at this outcome, it had been normal at Salem. Smiling towards the professor, Victoria moved to the front and took a seat.

"Good morning, professor!" Victoria greeted as she got out all of her books and got ready for the class.

Alchemy... Never the most popular subject in the school, and Josh understood why. It was basically Muggle science with small enhancements, that quite honestly, Josh didn't see the point in. But seeing as he liked to prove a point, Josh took it anyway, if only to watch the idiots around him.

Slipping in to the classroom behind a witch he didn't know, Josh sat in the middle of the classroom. He didn't acknowledge the professor, nor the girl, he simply took his book out and waited.

Shiva entered the Alchemy classroom and saw that there was only two students there for it so far. Josh Murray and someone she hadn't seen before, but apparently the girl was in her house. Shiva knew everyone in Hufflepuff so maybe this girl was new or a transfer. "Hello" she greeted to everyone kindly as she took a seat and waited for the Professor to begin.

Lucy had come to enjoy Alchemy class. It was quite interesting, and she liked how it utilised both magical and muggle means to make things. It was truly a fascinating subject. She walked into the classroom "Hi Professor," she chirped in her cheerful tone and found her seat, wondering what they would learn about today.

Alchemy was a class that Cassidy didn't particularly excel at, but nevertheless, she was still excited to attend. She knew that she tried her best in all things, and though she didn't get Outstanding results in everything, she was okay with it. She walked into the classroom "Hi Professor," she greeted with a warm smile and kind nod of the head before she found a seat in the classroom and waited for class to start.

Mavis rolled her eyes as she made her way inside the classroom. The man who taught the class seemed like he had no idea what the hell he was doing but apparently he had done something right if he became a Professor. The Slytherin just took a seat and blocked out the world around her. She wasn't in the mood to be associated with anyone at the moment or ever. Call her a bitch but she just didn't care.

Alchemy wasn't a class that Rhian had ever had an interest in before this year. Not that she thought it was below her, she'd just never thought to take it in her earlier years. But she'd been spending more time with Teagan lately, and had heard so many interesting stories about her Cursebreaking days. With that, and the spelled runes the older witch had down her back, the Gryffindor had added a few new classes to her roster this time around.

Finding the class easy enough, since she'd taken it last lesson, she walked in to a relatively quiet room. Tess wasn't here yet, so she simply grabbed an empty seat and set about gathering her things.

Still curious about the relatively new subject, she smiled politely up at the professor, waiting for class to start.

Alyson actually came to like this class, it was different from the others that were in the school and the Professor knew what he was talking about, the Gryffindor happily walked in and saw a few students there already, the girl took a seat that was at an empty table and waited for the man to begin his class. Oh and did she mention that he was her boyfriend's older brother, this was going to be one hell of a class.

Lucas watched as a few new faces and most of the regulars walked in, nodding politely and greeting each one. Once he was satisfied enough people had arrived he started the class by leaning against his desk and addressing them.

"Welcome back class, now I know that its coming up to Christmas and I'm sure you are all excited for it. However there are some things we do need to get done, today will be a practical lesson. You will be turning Sand into Glass, there are dozens of Moulds for you to choose from up the front here. You can get straight into it, come and pick a mould you would like to attempt, the instructions are on the board. It is relatively straight forward, and as usual if you have any questions feel free to ask. All your needed ingredients are on the front table, opposite the moulds. " he told the class, giving it over to them. He knew they didn't need smothering, not now in their older years. By now they should be able to simply read the instructions and attempt the Glassmaking.

Instructions.
1.Pour sand into cauldron, and using the Ventus jinx, separate the quartz from the other minerals in the sand.
2.Take out the waste minerals with the jinx, and leave the remaining quartz in the cauldron.
3.Pour a medium amount of water in the cauldron and place the lid on the cauldron. Preferably, use a sticking charm.
4. Turn the heat up to extremely high and hot. The water will condense and add pressure to the quartz, increasing the melting speed and malleability.
5. After 15 minutes, release the lid, and refrain from looking into the cauldron as the steam is released. You can then pour the melted quartz into a ceramic mould you have chosen.
6. Leave to cool, and you have a simple quartz glass figure.

Lucas left the instructions on the board and waited for students to begin, the process didn't need much explaining. It was pretty straightforward and simple, at the end of the class he would be asking questions. For now he wanted to see how they went on their own.

PostSubject: Re: Alchemy Lesson 2 (Years 5-7)   Alchemy Lesson 2 (Years 5-7) EmptySat Oct 11, 2014 10:00 pm

Now that the instructions brought it to her attention, Rhian saw the cauldrons adorning every desk. Since she was relatively new to the subject, she had to wonder if this was normal for this topic. Either way, she had her instructions.

Taking the jar of sand that had been provided, the Gryffindor poured the full amount into the jar. The directions didn't say how much, and this wasn't exactly potions, so she trusted that it either didn't matter, or that the professor had given them enough. As she poured, she could make out the separate colors of stones in the mixture. Some particles were almost black, others various shades of tan. The lightest ones were almost clear in nature.

Her wand pointed into the cauldron, Rhian murmured the spell quietly and watched as a small gust of wind shot down into the pot. After years with this spell, she was able to control the amount and direction of the wind, making it swirl easily around the edges of the cauldron. Watching closely, she saw the little bits of rocks separate, almost as if by color.

"Hmm."

The clearest pieces were at the bottom, and the Gryffindor assumed those were the ones to use. Twisting her wand hand ever so slightly, she forced her wind up out of the cauldron and into the container the sand had been in before. The darker colored pieces followed suit, and emptied into the jar, leaving the quartz on it's own.

With the hardest part done, the rest of the instructions were easy going. The professor wasn't kidding when he cautioned against the steam. Even with attempting to stay out of the way, the proximity needed to remove the lid had the heat blaring against her skin. After a few moments, it cooled down immensely, and she was able to pour it into a mold she'd chosen from those provided. It would harden into the shape of a dragon in flight. She wasn't quite sure why, but it made her think of Conner.

As she started to clean up her station, and let the figurine finish cooling, she looked around at the other students. Compared to other classes, this one seemed relatively straight forward. She wondered why she'd never taken it before.

PostSubject: Re: Alchemy Lesson 2 (Years 5-7)   Alchemy Lesson 2 (Years 5-7) EmptySun Oct 12, 2014 7:49 am

Mavis rolled her eyes at the assignment and decided to begin the damn thing. She really wasn't in the mood to do anything but she knew that if she wanted to leave then she had to do this damn assignment for class and all.

She grabbed the sand and poured it into her cauldron with the Ventus jinx and separated the quartz from the other minerals in the sand, she took out the waste minerals with the jinx and left the remaining quartz in the cauldron. She poured a medium amount of water in the cauldron and placed the lid on the cauldron by using the damn sticking charm to make sure that it didn't fall off. The Slytherin turned up the heat extremely high and hot, she didn't know why it was said for that but she did it anyway.

After fifteen minutes she released the lid and didn't look in it but she was completely tempted to and she tried to but it got hot so she refrained from doing that again. Mavis left her thing to cool and began to sculp the sand and made her figure.

Victoria listened to the professor as he explained what they were going to be doing that lesson. She'd read about it often over the summer, quite interested in trying it out, but knowing she'd have to wait. But with the knowledge that she could not try, Victoria was more than a little excited right now.

When they were told to come and take their ingredients and a mould to work with. Moving back to her seat, Victoria read the instructions from the board one more time before she started. Turning the heat on for the cauldron, Victoria poured the sand in carefully, taking out her rosewood wand and casting the Ventus jinx inside. It took some concentration to separate the minerals of the sand, but after a few long minutes, she'd extracted the waste minerals and put them in a tray on her table.

Next, Victoria lifted the jug of water she had, reaching up and carefully pouring the liquid in to the cauldron. Checking the quartz was suitably submerged, she covered the cauldron and cast a sticking charm under her breath. Making sure the lid didn't budge, Victoria looked up to the board and read the next instructions.

Heat. No problem. Turning the flame up accordingly, Victoria checked the small pink watch on her wrist, knowing that fifteen minutes would be the expected time. Knowing she had time, Victoria moved to put the ingredients she didn't need back at the professor's desk at the front. "In case you can use them for something else." Victoria explained softly before moving back to her desk and readying the mould for her glass structure. She'd chosen the golden retriever because it was Jake's Patronus. She was going to take it and try to perform something of a spell on it to make it show her he was okay. Victoria was a little worried now Jake was training to be an Auror, but she knew her brother was going to be okay, he was always okay, that was Jake.

After the fifteen minutes of waiting for the time to end, Victoria reversed the sticking spell and lifted the lid with the aid of gloves. Waiting for the steam to clear, Victoria readied the mould and levitated the cauldron very, very carefully to pour the quartz in to the mould before placing it back. A quick scourging spell cleaned the cauldron and that simple meant waiting for the sand to cool.

Looking back to the professor, Victoria smiled knowing she'd succeeded. Potions, or the like, had always been very easy for her.

Listening to the professor was never something Josh enjoyed, especially with the man in question before him. The Head Boy sat quietly though, simply watching the others as they hurried to the front to collect their items. Slipping his wand from his pocket, Josh carefully levitated his own set, there was no point in getting up when you had magic at your disposal. Once the ingredients were on his desk with a random mould. Josh didn't look, instead lighting the flames beneath his cauldron and starting on the task.

Pouring the sand in to the cauldron, Josh muttered the Ventus jinx and watched the quartz separate before banishing the rest that wasn't needed. The water was next, just enough to submerge the sand and then a quick flick of his wand the lid was sealed to the cauldron tightly.

The heat was turned as high as it could and Josh sat back, waiting fifteen minutes as his eyes scanned the room to see how everyone else was getting on. Finding nothing interesting, Josh simply checked his wand intermittently for the remainder of the fifteen minutes. As his clock struck the fifteen minutes, Josh removed the lid, waiting for the steam to clear before he levitated the cauldron to fill the mould. Josh still didn't look at what it was going to be.

Clearing his cauldron, Josh sat waiting for further instructions.
