Personality:
Ariana is very ambitious and even though she was born in a rich family, she has a strong work ethics and has worked hard in her life. She doesn't really like to socialize and doesn't see the point in being nice just for the sake of it, but she is polite to people who could help her achieve her goals. She's good at manipulating and even though she is quite selfish, she wants to improve the community she lives in.
Background:
She attended Salem Academy, graduated top of her class and was Head Girl in her 7th Year. She had a group of people that called themselves friends, although they were really just using one another to achieve whatever they set out to achieve. They all knew what the others were playing at and that only made them be more sneaky and manipulative. Ariana had a few boyfriends, although she didn't feel anything towards them and, like her friends, she used the men for her own good. She looked after her younger sister purely out of sense of family duty, until Sienna told her to stop pretending to care. They've been polite to one another even since, but they both knew they didn't really love each other. Sienna was the complete opposite of her older sister and they both accepted they would never really get along.
Immediately after school, her Father got her a job in the Ministry, as an intern for Wizengamot Administration Services. A year in the job, she got a promotion and has been working hard ever since. She has been using her 'training' as a Pureblood witch to charm the people she worked with, made them think she was their friend and then, when they least expected it, she went behind their backs and used them to get a job in the higher ranks.
Slowly, yet efficiently, Ariana climbed the ladder and became second in command to the Minister of Magic. She hasn't married or had any children, much to her family's dismay, but family wasn't in her life plan. They'd only be distracting and unlike some of the women she knew, Ariana didn't have that inner urge to have children, or anyone besides herself. Her Mother has been trying to marry her off since she was 20 years old and hasn't succeeded yet.

Family Background:
Melinda and Huang had an arranged marriage, to bring together a strong Chinese Pureblood family and a respected wizarding family of Chinese roots. The Zhào's have been living in the United States for many generations and the Lee's wanted to have connections outside of Asia. They got married when Melinda was 24 and Huang was 27. They didn't love each other, but there was mutual respect and that was enough. Even though they both hoped for a male heir, they worked hard to prepare Ariana and Sienna for the day when they will inherit the family fortune.
While Ariana was the perfect pureblood daughter, she didn't want to marry and no sense of duty would make her do it. Sienna, on the other hand, kept laughing and talking out of turn, she made friends with Muggles and Muggleborns and was more than happy to start a family. She got a job at St. Nick's, married a respected Halfblood wizard, had three children (Maisy, Luke and Lily) and thus secured the Lee family line. Even though she wasn't as successful as her sister, she was happy and proud of her life.
Huang died at the age of 70, of a heart attack. Melinda has taken to wearing only black since his death and hasn't left her mansion since. Ariana and Sienna (with her family) still came to their Mother for holidays, even though the kids didn't really like their stern and quiet Grandmother.
