The New Girl (Tess & Victoria) Empty
PostSubject: The New Girl (Tess & Victoria)   The New Girl (Tess & Victoria) EmptyMon Sep 08, 2014 4:06 am

Lost. Victoria was well and truly lost.

The Hufflepuff looked down at her map and tried to work out where she was in the castle after she'd taken the stairs off at what she believed to be the second floor. Only to get lost as she continued to try and find her way back to the stairs on the realisation she'd gone the wrong way. Hogwarts was a game on many levels, with the stairs that moved and the doors that disappeared on a whim. The portraits had tried to help, but Victoria had simply gotten lost. With a quick check on her small watch on her left wrist, the witch resigned herself to the fate that if she got caught now, she was going to be in trouble.

Breaking rules in the first week of term.

She could only hope that she ran in to a nice prefect who would understand that she was trying oh so hard to follow the rules. Leaning against the wall, the witch looked over the map again, trying to find something of a landmark so that she could get moving again, but nothing looked right. "Dorothy was right, there's no place like home..." Victoria whispered to herself, starting to walk off again in search of the stairs. She wasn't bitter, Victoria was just worried that she'd lose points for her new house.

The New Girl (Tess & Victoria) Empty
PostSubject: Re: The New Girl (Tess & Victoria)   The New Girl (Tess & Victoria) EmptyMon Sep 08, 2014 10:38 pm

This evening, the she was in charge of checking the staircases. Knowing that it was the beginning of the year, she expected to see many first years roaming around, confused, asking questions, some children, Gryffindors, would seek adventure, only to end up in tears in their disorientation. Climbing down the stairs she remembered her first year at Hogwarts. She made sure to avoid getting into situations by having a clear path of how to go. But no matter how much you plan, it seemed like a right of passage to have the staircases change their directions. They were little devils, being entertainment for some paintings who needed to talk to taunt depending on the painting's origin.

"There's a girl lost on the first" one of the paintings said.

Lifting her head she looked at the blond mermaid smiling brightly at the Head Girl. Tess shook her head, the mermaid always loved helping, always finding what was needed and aiding whoever it could be.

"Is she okay?" she asked.

The mermaid giggled.

"She's fine, just go"

Tess began her descent to the first floor, and as the stairs began to shift, she noticed a young brunette looking confused. The girl wasn't a first year, that much was for sure, but she figured that the mermaid never lied.

"I see you're lost" She commented offhandedly leaning against the opposite stairway railings.

Victoria had heard the sound of footsteps and froze in place, her eyes darted around for somewhere to hide whilst her mind told her that she was going to be okay, that honesty was the best policy. So as the steps grew louder, Victoria had turned to face whoever was coming, her face concentrated in to a mix of complete adorableness and a hopeful look that said 'please don't tell me off'.

"I see you're lost"

"A little bit..." Victoria replied softly, trying not to sound as terrified as she was as she looked up at the older witch. She had no reason to be scared, of course, the teachers had told her again and again that everyone here would help her if she needed it. "I really don't want to get in to trouble, I was heading back from the library to my common room and I got lost... My map doesn't seem to understand what floor I am on. Or maybe I read it wrong. Please could you help me?" Victoria asked, only noticing the badge on the witch's chest a moment later.

Head Girl. Oh no...

As she noticed the girl, Tess saw that she looked like a little puppy. It was pathetic and endearing at the same time. She hadn't even warned her and the girl looked at her as if she had put her in detention. As if she would, the mermaid had told her enough that the girl was legitimately lost. Placing her hands on the railings, she allowed the girl to explain herself as she calmly took the stairs towards her. Hufflepuff, it figures. She found it ironic the girl got lost considering that Hufflepuffs were good at finding things.

"I really don't want to get in to trouble, I was heading back from the library to my common room and I got lost... My map doesn't seem to understand what floor I am on. Or maybe I read it wrong. Please could you help me?"

"First of all, I know, the mermaid told me you got lost. Those portraits are never good for asking directions. Some of them are known to be tricksters" she smirked at the girl, "especially ones that went to my house."

When the girl finally looked up at her, she looked all the more horrified. Her eyes on the badge. Tess chuckled and tilted her head so the girl could look right at her eyes.

"I know that the stairs can be confusing, but come on I'll help you get to your dormitory."

When the older witch spoke of a portrait of a mermaid, Victoria tried to remember seeing one. She must have passed that one when she was lost, because she most certainly couldn't remember seeing it. "I'll keep that in mind, though I didn't ask them... the stairs are confusing..." Victoria tried to explain, still uncertain as to where she stood right now. In more than one way of those words.

"I know that the stairs can be confusing, but come on I'll help you get to your dormitory."

The girl, it seemed, was much nicer than she'd expected. Maybe she wasn't late enough to get in trouble? Or the Head Girl was really nice. Whatever the case, Victoria's worried expression turned in to a full beaming smile up at the older witch. "Thank you so much!" She replied quickly hurrying to walk beside the older witch.

"I'm Victoria, by the way. Victoria Newbury. I'm sorry to be a nuisance to you. You're Tess, right?" Victoria asked, quickly pointing to her backpack. "I got given a list of the prefects and head positions so that I knew who to ask for if I got in trouble. I moved from Salem this year." The witch explained happily, relaxing now she knew she wasn't going to get in to trouble. Also, this was once again a very good opportunity to make friends, something she was so very good at, even if she did say so herself.

It was late, and curfew had ended, but it had been only an hour, and Tess had to admit that the girl looked as if losing points would be a death sentence. She rarely deducted points, finding it to be something that just wasn't her forte unless provoked. Plus, hufflepuffs needed as many points as they could possibly get, considering they never won the House cup to begin with.

Signaling her to follow, Tess waited patiently, and as usual, the stairs shifted in her favor. Quickly she went to the next staircase, expecting the girl to follow. She could definitely tell from the girl's chatter.

I moved from Salem this year."

Tess hadn't even had a chance to introduce herself before the girl began chatting about her. Newbury did catch her attention, and remembering correctly, she had appeared briefly during the Boggart lesson. She hummed softly finding her comment interesting.

"Yes, my name is Tess" she said softly, "Well welcome to Hogwarts, where adventure can happen even in the staircases I suppose" signaling her to hurry. "We have ten people that can help you in any way...well nine. The Head Boy...not so much. Anyways" she said smiling, "I try to be friendly"

Victoria followed the Head Girl without hesitation. The younger witch never had problem with trusting people, in fact nine times out of ten she trusted people far too quickly. But, with a person in a place of authority, that could never be a bad thing, right? Victoria just hurried along after the witch, fighting the urge to skip, but still needing to walk quickly to keep up with the older witch.

"Well welcome to Hogwarts, where adventure can happen even in the staircases I suppose"

"They do indeed! I think I'm going to have to put some work in to the map, maybe I can put a picture on the map to show me where I am. There has to be a spell. Then I promise I won't be in this situation again!" Victoria explained, more talking out loud about her ideas than talking to the older witch, but then, it was always nice to share ideas. Tess might even know of spells that would help her, the witch realised, but she didn't ask, she was in a little bit of trouble after all, probably best not to push her luck.

The comment on the Head Boy, however, made Victoria raise an eyebrow at the older witch. "You mean Joshua Murray?" Victoria asked, remembering the name from her sheet of paper. "Why wouldn't he help me?" The witch enquired, trying to get a picture in her mind. "Surely he has to be a nice, helpful person if he got the position of Head Boy? That's how the system works..."

PostSubject: Re: The New Girl (Tess & Victoria)   The New Girl (Tess & Victoria) EmptyFri Sep 12, 2014 1:42 am

This girl was...sweet, really sweet. It was a foreign quality that she found in people, not sure that she liked it, but then again her own personality was an acquired taste. Victoria Newbury was a chatterbox, so very different from her brother who tended to be a quieter person, kind, but quieter. She figured she could ask about Jake.

"Well as far as enchantments we aren't allowed to have them on campus. But what you can do is ask your brother, I suppose he'd be better at answering those things. Personally, I learned Hogwarts by getting lost, it's part of the charm" she said laughing softly. "The stairs like to tease the newbies, I've seen it happen a lot, so don't fuss over it"

Running her hands on the railing, it slowly began to connect to a descending stairway to lead them to the dungeons.

Tess couldn't help but giggle at the thought of putting the words Josh and nice in the same sentence.

"Josh, or Joshua as you said is...nice, I suppose he can have his moments. He's a bit rough around the edges. But maybe he'd help you, depends on his mood. The system works as the most deserving" she explained, "He's one of the smartest people I've had the pleasure of working with. Being extroverted is neither of our strong suits actually.."

She certainly wasn't, but made an effort for the sake of the position.

"Academics play a big role, that's why we're both Heads. Picking someone for their niceness doesn't necessarily mean a dedicated person. So why did you transfer to Hogwarts?" she asked trying to change the direction of the conversation.

When the Head Girl explained that she should ask her brother, Victoria nodded, following the older witch on to a staircase that had just moved. "I will check, though I might explore. Is there anywhere in the castle I'm not allowed to go? If it's before curfew, I mean." Victoria asked, ready to make mental notes where necessary.

The information on the Head Boy was useful to Victoria, and she nodded in understanding. "I know academics come in to it. Popularity is also something that comes in to it, from what I've seen. Many factors really. I'm sure I'll meet Josh at some point." The witch explained happily, honestly she didn't think that the Head Boy could be that bad, he held a position of trust, after all. But, the witch decided not to argue with the witch walking alongside her.

"So why did you transfer to Hogwarts?"

The question was yet to be asked by anyone else, and Victoria realised that she had not been prepared for the question in the slightest. It was almost as if the wind had been knocked out of her chest as Victoria took her next step. With an unsteady breath, and a very difficult time controlling the memories that were threatening to take over. It was a few more paces before Victoria had pulled herself back to the present and she could hear her heart pounding in her ears. "I... Couldn't..." Victoria shook her head, taking another deep breath and exhaling softly. "After the attack on Salem, I didn't want to go back." She managed, talking relatively quickly but deciding it was better to just get it out in the open. Then maybe she could try to forget all about it again.

Tess hummed softly in agreement. Yes there were places that she wasn't allowed to go, but even when she was younger she broke them. It wasn't as if she was going to tell the younger girl that, but as they reached the last of the stairs she began to explain.

"You aren't allowed in faculty areas like kitchens without permission, surprising I know. But a house elf can help you before curfew. Forbidden forest is always prohibited, if you get lost...just don't break the rules. There are things there that aren't the friendliest. Other than that, you have free reign, from 6am to 10pm."

Tess couldn't help but laugh at the girl's comment about popularity. If popularity had something to do with Head positions at Hogwarts...she wouldn't stand a chance.

"Oh you will meet him. And as for popularity, let's just say that Josh would definitely be the Head Boy and I...I definitely wouldn't be the Head Girl" she said shaking her head. "But who knows, the Hogwarts staff have their way of choosing"

When she had asked the question about transferring, she never expected her to have a reaction such as she had. Tess stopped as the girl did and seemed to go quiet, too quiet and turned around to see her frozen. She frowned and climbed up the stairs waiting for her to just do anything. Waving her hand in front of her, she waited patiently.

"I... Couldn't..." Victoria shook her head, taking another deep breath and exhaling softly. "After the attack on Salem, I didn't want to go back."

The attack, Tess closed her eyes attempting to forget the explosion that sometimes during the night rang in her ears. She subconsciously ran her hand on her side, relieved to have the pain disappeared. It was still raw, and she failed to realize just how impactful it still laid. She wondered if the young girl had gotten injuries during the attack, and if that's what haunted her.

"I'm sorry" she whispered placing a hand, tentatively on her shoulder, unsure if Victoria liked being touched. "I'm so sorry I asked...it was insensitive of me."

The news on not being allowed in to the kitchens made Victoria sad. Now how was she going to make Mexican chocolate with Allegra? She didn't voice this though, because the young Hufflepuff planned on making a plan to be able to, and she wasn't sure whether the Head Girl would accept it. "I'll keep that in mind, thank you!" Victoria replied to the older witch when she'd finished explaining what she could and couldn't do. The Forbidden Forest was also a place she wanted to go, but yet again, it seemed she would have to rethink that idea too.

"Oh you will meet him. And as for popularity, let's just say that Josh would definitely be the Head Boy and I...I definitely wouldn't be the Head Girl"

Victoria simply nodded with the information, not sure on why the witch would think that. "Well, if you're like this to everyone, I don't see why you wouldn't be popular." Victoria replied softly, looking up at the witch with a large smile in place. Despite earlier worries of upsetting the Head Girl, or even getting in trouble, Victoria could see that she was actually very nice. And helpful, very helpful.

"I'm so sorry I asked...it was insensitive of me."

The hand on her shoulder was an invite in Victoria's mind, and she took the hug she thought she'd been offered. The Hufflepuff held the older witch briefly, feeling a little bit better with the small amount of comfort that came from Tess. "It's okay." Victoria replied as she let go, smiling up at the witch to show it really was. "Everyone asks questions, sometimes it's just hard to find the right answer." She explained, setting off down the stairs once more. Honestly, Victoria was getting better with the whole thing, but she knew she had a long way to go just yet.

PostSubject: Re: The New Girl (Tess & Victoria)   The New Girl (Tess & Victoria) EmptySun Sep 14, 2014 4:02 am

Tess blushed lightly at the girl's compliment, definitely charming like Jake. She had to admit, she worried about the girl, despite just meeting her, because of her innocence. It radiated off of her, signaling to everyone exactly who was unmarred by life. She figured it was a mixture of a blessing and curse for her, for life would be hard on her.

The real surprise was not the compliment, it was actually the hug. She wasn't meaning to hug the girl, but as the younger girl clung to her, she had no choice but to hug her back. Tentatively, she wrapped her arms around her and sighed. She felt so bad for her, and after a moment gave her a small squeeze, not used to physical contact.

"It's okay." Victoria replied as she let go, smiling up at the witch to show it really was. "Everyone asks questions, sometimes it's just hard to find the right answer."

The bright smile on Victoria's face, told her enough that she was a trooper. Smiling softly, she pulled back and patted her shoulder.

"Come now, we're on the last stairway, then you can reach your dorms" she said kindly.

Victoria didn't notice that Tess was slightly off with the hug, but she most certainly appreciated the small squeeze. There wasn't a concept of things like this being too soon, or not people's style of communication. Hugs, in Victoria's opinion, were the best thing in the world.

The duo set off together after Victoria received a soft pat on the shoulder. Her smile was back in place, and for the most part she'd forgotten the hiccup in favour of the good news that they were nearly back at the common room.

It was only a couple of minutes before they stood at the entrance to the Hufflepuff Common Room, and Victoria looked up at the Head Girl with a grateful smile. "Thank you so much, for everything this evening. I promise I won't be out of bounds again!" The witch told her, waving to her as Tess wandered off. Victoria waited until the Head Girl was away before she played the beat to gain access. Thankfully the common room was quiet and Victoria could slip back in unnoticed and take shelter in her dormitory.

Hopefully, she'd made another friend in the school, but that was something to be seen another day.
