There was an incredibly short list of things that Jacoby was absolute shit at, a fact that he very often prided himself on. Afterall it took a true genius to be mediocre at many skills as opposed to excellent in a few--at least that's how he talked himself up. But on that list of things he was genuinely just bad at the top two were asking for help, and potions class. The former could be attributed to his arrogance and general distrusting nature the latter was just pure disinterest on his part. The boy prefered the much more active and spontaneous classes of Transfiguration, Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts; potions was just too measured and controlled for him. His attention span just couldn't focus long enough to get through the ingredient list let alone an entire potion.

His father wasn't having any of his excuses however, and demanded that he seek tutoring to boost his grade. Jacoby had no idea that the tutor assigned to him was going to be the younger sister of the Professor and the Head Girl of the school. Though in hind sight he probably should have, they were in the same house and he was confident that the girl knew her stuff.

With a resigned sigh the eighteen year old slunk down low in the chair he was sitting as he awaited Tess's arrival. A part of him hoped that she would deem him a hopeless class and leave him to fail the course, yet still another hoped that she'd be able to help him so he could impress his father.

It seemed that with the responsibility as Head Girl, came the pressure of making sure that seventh years weren't lagging behind. She'd gotten a letter from her brother a few days ago to discuss her becoming a tutor to someone that was behind in potions. What intrigued her was that it was a seventh year, and all the more horrifying a Slytherin. She had to make sure that everyone in her year would pass their year and graduate.

With her hair up in a bun, and her uniform in check, she walked downstairs towards the Slytherin dorms. It had been a while since she had gone to the common room, two years in fact since she had a place of her own. As she walked to the door, the portrait recognized her and let her in. Looking in, she saw the person she was suppose to help. Jacoby.

Walking over to him, she smiled politely and placed the books that she had brought on the table in the center of the common room. Looking around she noticed it hadn't changed much and felt at home, despite all this time. The boy did not look at all ready for tutelage as he slumped over the chair and she placed her hands on her hips and tapped her foot.

"Come now, the faster we start this tutoring the better chance you have at passing advanced potions. Now, I brought a seventh year textbook, which is the level that you should be at, and if you find it too difficult I brought the year prior. I want to make sure to know what level you are and see if it is possible for you to graduate this year with at least a passable on your O.W.L.s. How does that sound to you?"

When Jacoby cracked an eye open at the sound Tess's voice he almost laughed at the 'annoyed school teacher' stance she took. Instead he straightened himself up and gave the Head Girl a mock salute, "Aye aye Professor Holmes." He smirked a little and scooted over to make room next to him if Tess decided to sit there as he picked up the Seventh year book and idly flipped through it. He figured that if he could find a potion that caught his interest it'd be easier for Tess to teach him the procedure and methodology for him to use on his own. However everything in the book just sounded so dull and lack luster.

A vicious yawn ripped from the teenager as his head nodded back against the back of the sofa, "Merlin this is so bloody boring..." he grumbled a bit before remembering who he was talking to. "No offense to you or your brother Tess...this just isn't my cup of tea. Sitting around measuring ingredients in front of a cauldron...it's just so dull." He shook his head and turned to face the younger girl. "When I was a kid and I day dreamed about being magic this was never a part of it you know?" He gave a warm grin as he spoke feeling at ease with the girl even though their interactions had been very limited.

"Broom riding, spell slinging, fighting back evil beasts; that's what I had in mind..." he tossed the book onto the table kicking up a puff of dust, "never figured being a wizard could also be so mundane."

Tess squinted towards Jacoby as he gave her a mock salute. This was what Mycroft was warning her about: having patience. If she was quite honest with herself, she definitely lacked it. She was used to showing things once and then just having everything go smoothly. That was definitely not the case it seemed with this guy.

"Aye aye Professor Holmes."

Rolling her eyes, she still took the invitation and sat beside him, opening up a similar book waiting for him to decide on something. When nothing came from that she frowned as he began to whine about how boring potions could be.

"No offense to you or your brother Tess...this just isn't my cup of tea. Sitting around measuring ingredients in front of a cauldron...it's just so dull."

"While you may be true about the importance of measuring, you have to note that it also creates power. One drop of a good spell could kill a man, and another could heal. It is the never-ending balance of life and death. Much more than an old broom could do" she said smirking. "Potions give you the power to determine an outcome. And if you think thats mundane, you are obviously not thinking logically"

As he threw the book on the table, she picked it up and flipped through. She tried to figure out a potion that could entice some interest. Her brother had already told her a potion that she could try on him, if he was up for the challenge.

"What if I told you...that with a potion you could could become anyone in the world, for a span of twelve hours?"

As Tess narrowed her eyes at him Jacoby gave a bit of a good natured laugh, he could tell that the Head Girl was not amused by his antics. Though it amused him more than anything else--he did really enjoy pushing other people's buttons. He would have acted this way regardless of who he was talking to, that's just how he was, not really caring what other people thought of him. Her exasperated eyeroll and frown however was just added icing on his cake. Maybe if he annoyed her enough she'd drop the whole idea of trying to tutor him and let him be. He just needed to think of a way to get out of it without making Tess think it was her. If he was honest with himself Jacoby thought that he was a hopeless case and didn't want to waste anyone's time. Not that he'd openly admit that.

When she started explaining the importance of potions he began an eye roll if his own. The smirk on her face reminded him of the face he made whenever he knew he was being a thorn in someone's side. As she continued to speak he gave a chuckle, "You obvious don't know much about me if you think I ever look at things logically. Who has time to think things out when it's so much more fun to just do?" He grinned brightly as he put his hands behind his head and lounged back. He may not have been keen on studying what Tess was trying to teach him, but it had been so long since he'd talked to anyone besides his father and his stuffy old friends that he was thoroughly enjoying the company.

Immediately as Tess began talking about the potion that could physically change him into anyone, Jacoby bolted up and gave a look of awe and interest. "You're talking about the Polyjuice Potion aren't you?" Jacoby may not have been much interested in the subject, but you'd need to be an absolute dolt to not be able to identify the Polyjuice by description. "Now you're talking my language sweetheart...making that would be absolutely wild." The grin on his face spread wider and wider as he thought of all the things that could be done. "But isn't the recipe for that restricted and only available to Professors?"

As Jacoby bolted up, Tess jumped despite herself at his sudden movement. She wasn't expecting him to react that way, certainly not over the hint she'd given him. Still, seeing his excitement worked in her favor. She had pulled the strings with her brother in trusting her to follow the instructions carefully and make Jacoby try and commit to it.

"Well, guess who got you the hook up to make it?" she said smiling, "But there are a few rules. At the moment it looks like you're getting a Dreadful grade, meaning that you're definitely close to Troll if not careful. If you manage to make a potent cauldron full of polyjuice, Mycroft said he would give you from Acceptable to Exceeds Expectations depending on how I rank your attempt at doing it."

"But isn't the recipe for that restricted and only available to Professors?"

"I think it's so cute that anything is restricted. Nothing is impossible if you know how to get what you want. Now are you up for it? Or can i do this on my own. You have two months."

This was by no means what Jacoby had expected when he found out he'd be getting tutored, but he had to admit that he was impressed. Before even talking to him it seemed like Tess came prepared with a plan that would more than likely work, almost as if she assessed his needs and knew the exact way to entice him into doing the work. Though hearing the prim and proper Head Girl talk about getting a hook up caused Jacoby to laugh a little bit and shake his head. "Well look at you coming all equipped to actually make the slacker want to work." He scratched at his chin as if he was thinking it over, but in reality he'd already made up his mind. This was too good an opportunity to pass up both for his grade and the chance to learn to how to brew the polyjuice potion.

"Alright Tess I accept your terms," he said after nearly a minute hoping that it was a suspenseful wait, "I'll work my hardest and make the potion. Just get me the recipe and a place to work and in two months you'll have your potion." Or more than likely my sad attempt at one the voice in the back of his head nagged stirring up the insecurities he had about failure. "Though perhaps in the meantime we could work on some easier things? Help me learn technique and all that malarkey so I don't screw this up too bad."

He gave a lopsided grin in Tess's direction as he picked up the book up again and flipped through it. "Is there some kind of potion that increases sexual stamina?" He wondered aloud unintentionally though once the thought was out in the open he decided to have a little fun with Tess. "Not for me of course for my partners...haven't found anyone that can keep up with me yet."

Tess smiled brightly as she got him where she wanted him; boys were so simple really. Getting her brother's pre-approval worked wonders for her, and she wasn't a real Slytherin if she didn't use her resources to her advantage. She knew it was a big task for Jacoby, but she knew that if she pruned him enough he would be a perfect student...or at least a passable one. And as he accepted her terms she clapped her hands realizing she won in getting him interested into all of this.

"Alright Tess I accept your terms," he said after nearly a minute hoping that it was a suspenseful wait, "I'll work my hardest and make the potion. Just get me the recipe and a place to work and in two months you'll have your potion."

"Very well, but I am allowed to be a resource if you should need it, whether it be sitting there while you brew or just asking general questions. I can be there." she explained.

She didn't want him to go without the proper resources, the potion was advanced a potion she herself hadn't even attempted to brew. Still, as he suggested an easier potion she nodded, figuring she could help him hone his skills.

"Is there some kind of potion that increases sexual stamina?"

Her eyes widened at the transition between conversations. Sex wasn't...it wasn't something anyone spoke about aloud in their community, rather it was a taboo subject that was told through books. But stamina? Was that so necessary. Were her cheeks warm? Touching her face she realized it was definitely happening.

"Not for me of course for my partners...haven't found anyone that can keep up with me yet."

Her cheeks turned redder and she covered her face, mortified at how free he was at talking about the subject.

"Please stop" she whispered embarrassed.
