Adelaide settled into her new job at the Ministry of Magic. She was one of few who were trusted to know the information within this department. This department was none other than the Department of Mysteries. The department workers were hesitant to employ Adelaide since they thought that she was too young. However, they gave no reason not to trust her. She had an exceptional record and exemplary grades.
When a fellow department worker showed Adelaide her office, it was not what she expected. It was black marble with a shimmer of green for the floors and walls. In the center of the room was a mahogany desk with writing tools placed on top of the desk. By the door, there was cupboard for clothing belongings and an umbrella stand. There were no windows of course since Adelaide’s department was the second lowest in the Ministry. Luckily, Adelaide had no problem with claustrophobia.
She was given guidelines about what she needed to follow and new information that needed to be presented by a specific date. The worker left her to decide what she wanted to study for the first month. Adelaide decided to start with a heavy topic first. Death was the topic that Adelaide chose. To examine this topic, she would have to research death in general and then in depth. Even though it was her first day of work, Adelaide decided that it was time for a trip to a library. Adelaide knew how extensive the library was at Hogwarts in the Restricted Section. She would have to visit a variety of libraries to see different sources and effects.
At the current point in time, Adelaide had to write down what she already knew about the topic, what she was unsure of and theories. When it was near the end of the day, Adelaide went into the department archives and looked at past death cases. She was hunched over a file, none other then Lily and James Potter. It was a case that still surprised Adelaide about how Harry Potter lived the killing curse. A question hammered in her head: Could this act be repeated, if one was to love someone like Lily loved Harry? Would someone be willing to give their life up for someone they loved?
When Adelaide looked up, there was the department worker who welcomed her and gave her guidelines. The worker said to not exhaust herself straight away since cases take years to uncover. They suggested that Adelaide travel home and call it a day. It took some convincing but Adelaide agreed to it. When Adelaide left, the question still clouded her mind. Adelaide thought she was onto something.
