Down the stairs he went, knowing that today he was back on the old routine. He took advantage of the time he could to go split his time between Salem, Hogwarts, and then the Ministry. It was stressful, so much so he hadn't even bothered to plan the wedding to Teagan. Both had agreed that was on hold until they could start planning in the summer, away from school and in the haven they had built together.

His lip twitched at the thought and pushed the door open to his classroom. He was relieved to see that everything was on point. The tables were wiped of any remnants of previous classes, the scent of cleanliness everywhere. He sighed satisfied and sat down waiting for class to begin. Today would definitely be a testing point, so he could see, who had potential for success in the university.

Charlie knew this was going to be her last time here in the school, it would sadden her but she knew that eventually life would pay off. She walked into the potions classroom and took it all in before she took a seat. Professor Mycroft was a good Professor and she knew that he was always so confident and held with grace from time to time. "Hello Professor" she greeted as she got out the things she'd need for the class.

Potions wasn't a class that she hated but it wasn't her favorite either, Diem entered the room and instantly saw one other student and the Professor. The Prefect knew how the Professor was and just took a seat, she gave him a small smile though just to remain polite before she focused on getting ready for the class.

As exams were coming closer, Mary was growing more and more restless and the stress was killing her. What on Earth possessed her to accept the positions of Head Girl and Quidditch Captain and to decide to train for Auror training in her last year? She felt like she was being torn apart by all her responsibilities and if she thought it was bad in her 5th year, then this was hell.

She has stopped caring about her appearance, as she didn't even have five spare minutes to apply make up. Consequently, her hair was always a mess, there were large dark circles under her eyes and if her stockings had a rip or two, she never noticed. She was always tired and every once in a while, when she had coffee, she got spurts of energy and that was when she got most of her work done.

With her robes inside out, Mary walked down to the dungeons, waved at Diem and Charlie, greeted the Professor and took a seat. Her hair was tied back in a ponytail, as she didn't want to accidentally set it on fire or dip it in her cauldron.

Potions was a good and helpful class to be in, he knew there was going to be some people who didn't think so but that was their loss. The Nightshade walked in and once again saw some of his girl classmates there but Professor Mycroft wasn't a girl so it made it a little less girlish. "Hello" he greeted. The Nightshade took a seat and waited for the class to start.

Jareth walked in to Potions, not expecting much really. It was almost the end of the school year, and Jareth couldn't wait to party. "Sup Professor?" he said in his normal greeting. He saw a few others here, but no Belladonna . There wasn't really anyone he knew, but he took a seat and waited for the lesson to start.

As students walked in, Mycroft leaned back realizing that half of his students were graduating. It was bittersweet, especially with Miss McNeely who had become his apprentice. It was nice to see how far she'd come. But as she entered, he realized that she was in no way taking the end of the year well. Her disheveled appearance, and her tiredness, made him wince a bit. He had remembered how it had been for him, all those years ago.

Seeing that most students had come in, he walked forward and smiled at the students that looked exhausted. Clearing his throat he sought their attention and began to lecture.

"Welcome to the last lecture of the year..please try to keep back the hollers and cheering till later. I see that a lot of you are most definitely done with the year, from the yawning, looking like you're close to death, and the stench some of you carry. I wish I could say that I could let you off the hook today, but that's not the man I am, and I don't think you'd really appreciate that in the future. Now can anyone tell me something about Draught of Living Death?"

Charlie watched as others came in and she stayed focused in the Professor as he began to speak up about what they were doing. Even though the Professor always wanted to get straight to the point and not worry about what they said and only of what they did, he was good at his job. When he gave her a hint of the lesson, she raised her hand. "When someone drinks the potion they sleep like the dead" she answered and lowered her hand.

His icy blue eyes trailed from one student to the other, waiting to see who would raise their hand first, and soon enough Miss Jaymes was the first to do so. He signaled her to start knowing that the faster they moved, the faster they could begin to concoct the potion. Miss Jaymes rarely talked and it seemed that when she did, she went right to the point.

"When someone drinks the potion they sleep like the dead"

Very short in fact. He nodded slowly, knowing that she was right technically, but not necessarily what he was looking for.

"Very good Miss Jaymes, five points to Wormwood. But can anyone else expand on what the potion does, and so forth? I ask for an explanation that is both thorough, but not textbook"

Professor Holmes soon started the lesson and Mary realized this would be one of the last times she'd see the man at school. It was a painful realization, especially since she hadn't had time to think about that, what with studying and trying to do all her other responsibilities. It wasn't a nice feeling, knowing she probably won't ever come back, at least not as a student. On the other hand, the witch was exhausted and just wanted to be done with exams already.

She listened to Charlie give her answer and she smiled at her. The other Wormwood was graduating that year as well and Mary wondered how she was doing. When Professor Holmes asked for a more thorough explanation, Mary raised her own hand. "It's a terribly difficult potion to make, because you have to be very, very careful and cautious. If brewed correctly, it puts the taker in a deep sleep, that can last... well, forever, until you die. However, you can take the Wiggenweld Potion, or well, someone has to give it to you and, you wake up."

Mycroft smiled at the fact that as usual Miss McNeely would answer and with a good response, one that did not come right out of the textbook, but paraphrased nicely to help out. He knew that whatever and wherever these students chose to go, they would succeed, he had seen it happen in lesser students.

"Very good Miss McNeely, five more points to Wormwood. Today will serve as not only your last lesson but as your final exam. I know, you don't want to see me again, and neither do I wish to see you...for sixth years, you have summer to mourn the fact you're going to have to return. Now. I'll present you with your exam, you will be given the ingredients and portions, but some ingredients are extra, and none have tags as to what is what. Use all your senses, and be careful to distinguish the differences."

Add powdered moonstone until the potion turns green.
Stir until the potion turns blue.
Add powdered moonstone until the potion turns purple.

Allow to simmer till the potion turns purple.
Add powdered unicorn horn until the potion turns pink.
Stir until the potion turns red.
Allow to simmer until the potion turns purple.
Add more powdered moonstone until the potion turns grey.
Allow the potion to simmer until it turns orange.

Apollo thought that this potion seemed easy enough and got to work. He followed the instructions like he was supposed to and the order that they were in on the board. He added powdered moonstone until it turned green, stirred until it turned blue, added more powdered moonstone until it turned purple, then allowed it to simmer until it turned pink. Apollo continued on with his potion. He added the syrup of hellbore until it turned turquoise, then allowed it to simmer again until it turned purple.

He shook the porcupine quills until they were ready to add to the potion, when it was he added it and watched as his potion turned red, then stirred until the potion turned orange, added more porcupine quills after that and watched as the potion turned turquoise again. He allowed it to simmer until it turned purple, then added powdered unicorn horn until the potion turned pink, then stirred again until it turned red once again. He allowed it to simmer until it turned purple, then added more powdered moonstone and watched as the potion turned grey and allowed it to simmer again. The final ingredient was more powdered porcupine quills and his potion turned white.

Apollo finished completely.

Mary snorted at Professor Holmes' comment and turned away to hide her grin. She's going to miss him most of all, she thought. Well, him and the Headmistress, but for very different reasons.
She listened to the explanation and smiled. It will certainly be a challenge to pick out the right ingredients and brew one of the most difficult potions ever. A challenge she'd be more than happy to take on any other day. Today, however, she was exhausted and wasn't completely sure she'd distinguish nettle from mint leaves. A challenge indeed.

As the base for the potion was waiting to simmer, the witch took some parchment and a pen out of her bag. Sure, the ingredients weren't titled, but that didn't mean she couldn't name them herself to make brewing slightly less hectic. There were four bowls of powder on her station and she only needed three. Mary tore off four little pieces of parchment, labeled them 'P', 'U', 'M' and 'X'. There were two powders that shone brightly and after inspecting them both, Mary found out one of them was just glitter. Cursing under her breath because of course now it'll get everywhere, she put the parchment with an X on it next to the bowl of glitter and the one with an M next to the other one.

Now to distinguish between unicorn horn and porcupine quills. They were both roughly the same color and Mary groaned, thinking of a way to set them apart. She knew unicorn powder would dissolve any common poison, but she didn't really have time to brew a poison and she didn't usually just carry them around with her. An idea struck her after staring at the bowls for a few long moments. She shook both bowls lightly and caught a slight shimmer in one of them. That had to be unicorn horn, then. Satisfied, the witch labeled the bowls as she did before.

Then there were three bottles with liquids in them. Two were blue and one was green. Mary discarded the green one right away, knowing that syrup of hellebore was blue. She had a nasty feeling that the green substance was armadillo bile and she really didn't want to use that instead of the correct ingredient. She opened both of the blue bottles and smelled them. A faint smoke seemed to be coming from the first one and the smell was horrible. Mary blinked and hurriedly closed the bottle up. The liquid in the bottle seemed to be Wolfsbane Potion and the witch raised her eyebrows, impressed to the length Professor Holmes would go to deceive his students. The other substance smelled nice and faintly of flowers.

Mary put the right bottle next to the powders and put the suspected Wolfsbane Potion next to the green bottle. The base seemed to be ready and Mary got to work. She took some of the powder labeled with 'M' and added it to the cauldron slowly. The potion soon turned green, but some more powder slipped from Mary's fingers before she could stop it and the liquid went from a nice shade of green to a deep one. The Head Girl knew better than to panic, but she didn't like it. She would have to be incredibly careful now.

She stirred the potion three times and watches as it turned to a deep shade of blue, still a product of too much moonstone. This time, Mary added only a few pinches of it and the potion was now a lovely purple, making the girl smile. She cannot mess this up, it's an exam and she knew Professor Holmes took exams very seriously.

After it simmered for a few minutes, the liquid was pink, though it was still a bit dark. She added the syrup one drop at a time, watching the potion intently. It turned to a nice shade of turquoise and the girl sighed with relief. It was finally going well. She let it simmer again, keeping an eye on it all the while. It was soon purple again and this time it was a lively purple. Mary closed the bowl with porcupine quills powder and shook it hard for a few moments. When she figured they'd be good to go, she carefully and slowly added them to the potion. The color changed from purple to a dark red and Mary added some more powder, making it a strong shade of red.

Stirring the potion again, one time clockwise and the other anti-clockwise, Mary watched as the color turned to a vivid orange. After quite a few more pinches of porcupine quill powder, the potion was turquoise again. After that, it took a long while of simmering for it to become purple and Mary spent the time impatiently tapping her foot and staring at her cauldron. The fumes were making her feel slightly sick, she was unbelievably tired and what she wanted more than anything was a nap. Her thoughts of her comfy bed were interrupted when she noticed the potion was finally purple and she got to work once again.

Taking the bowl with a 'U' next to it, Mary shook some of the shimmering powder in her cauldron, making the potion a vibrant pink. She stirred it again after that. Two turns anti-clockwise, one clockwise and again two turns anti-clockwise. The stirring made the potion red and then the witch let it simmer for a few minutes. It would be hard, keeping the temperature consistent all the time if she hadn't stumbled on a spell for that a few weeks back. It was very useful and it was one less thing she had to worry about. As she waited for the potion to catch up, she renewed the spell, just in case.

The potion was purple soon enough and the Wormwood added some more of the shining powder to it. It slowly made the liquid grey and Mary stifled a yawn with a smile. She was definitely skipping dinner to take a nap. While the potion was simmering, the witch made a plan. She would nap during dinner, get Lydia to get her some food, then eat and then work on her homework.

A vibrant orange color got her attention again and she snapped out if it. Mary carefully added the powder of porcupine quills and the potion finally turned white. The Head Girl sighed with relief and rubbed her eyes in an attempt to stay awake for a few more minutes. She poured her potion in a vial, labeled it with her name and then carried the vial over to Professor Holmes' desk.

Then, the girl cleaned up her station and returned the ingredients to the Professor. Afterwards, Mary wished the man a pleasant summer and went back to her desk, wishing it was her bed instead.
