Another birthday had passed and it was the first one in a long time that she had spent it alone. It had become just another day; her parents angry at the transition of power to Mycroft, didn't even think about her. And Mycroft in his push for power forgot her day too. It would have been awkward anyways. December had ended with Christmas being celebrated amongst her and the elves, they were happy and tried their best to distract her. But now at sixteen she had new responsibilities.

The new year came with her deciding that her new goal in life was to be the best at as much as she could. She practiced longer in quidditch, she wouldn't slack and take the hits to prove she was worth still being in the team. As for potions she was pushing to prove that everything she did was with a purpose and she would excel. Even socially, she tried to talk to students now that she was Head Girl. She didn't want them to think of her to be completely made of ice, rather serious, but caring. As for how much that was working, she had yet to see, but she wanted to be good at her job. Especially after carrying the weight of the Head Boy.

When they were assigned as Head Boy and Head Girl, she felt dread. She didn't know how she could handle him being around. It scared her that it would drive her crazy or she would break. So far, she hadn't seen Eris around like she had feared, and he too avoided her. It stung at first, but it worked well because it helped her move on. That's what she told herself. They rarely saw one another except for the prefect meetings and other than that she would continue to hope it would stay the same. He was soon graduating and it would work perfectly.

As she trekked back to the dorms, she had removed her cloak and uniform, leaving her open to the climate. January was colder than usual, but after the work out that Josh had pushed on them, she was comfortable in her tank top. Being six o' clock she knew that he would be gone and the dorms would be open. She always took advantage, such as long baths, reading and getting everything she needed before having to hide out to her place. Benjamin's trips were always a mystery, but she never bothered to follow. He wasn't her problem anymore.

After muttering the password, she pushed the door and sighed in relief to be there. Throwing her things on the lounge chair, she tugged the ribbon from her hair, letting it fall down her shoulders as she began to massage her head. She needed to relax. She was so into her world she failed to notice the lethargic boy right across from her.

Stupid...frilly....worthless...idiot.... Words floated through Ben's mind like bubbles, leaving the depths of his consciousness, breaking upon the surface of reality. His hand closed around the soft camisole, the silver material as familiar to him as the wood of his own wand now. Her smell engulfed his senses, helping to lull him further down into a welcome darkness.

His other arm was falling asleep, Stupid thing. How it had ended up out here, he didn't know right now. But he'd had to find it before he was too far gone. On wobbly legs, Ben had left his room, something he never did after taking this kind of potion. He would usually lay out on his bed and wait to be drowned in absolute nothingness. But he needed this. Needed her smell, that sweet, intoxicating high that seemed like so much more when his senses were altered like this.

He didn't even hear the portrait open as his mind swam. The darkened room, left completely bare of light save the fireplace, masked his presence. His body, now, lay across the couch, barely fitting on the short piece of furniture. On his stomach, his face turned away from the firelight, he took another strong whiff of the material in his fist, letting out a low hum.

Tess flinched at seeing him just lying there. She had successfully managed to avoid him for so long that seeing him made her uncomfortable. Gone were the feeling of butterflies and love she once felt, instead it was replaced by disgust and pity. What had become of him? He was never that lazy, that was clear enough for her. His lethargic attitude frustrated her because he would slack off from all responsibility sans his studies.

He looked so different now; his one pale skin that looked like porcelain was not sunken and shining with perspiration. His eyes once sharp and gorgeous, no longer took her breath away as they once did. Now they were cloudy, she figured his thoughts weren't as settled as she remembered. His beauty was diminishing in her eyes.

She let out a loud sigh, signaling that she was there. They never spoke directly to one another, not since...not since the end. They only spoke at others, as a pair, she was annoyed at the fact that they knew what the other would say when it came to business, but other than that, there was nothing. Part of her was proud of herself for not pining, and as she saw a slip of silver she knew why it was good of her.

She wasn't stupid enough to ignore when a girl came into the quarters. Her perfume stank up the place, so overpowering to her senses, a perfume she knew well. It was for the best she figured, if he had moved on, it would push her to do the same. Alone protected her, she didn't need a goldfish.

Picking up her things, she walked towards her dorm, not wanting to even bother greeting him. A shower, and a change of clothing later she walked down the stairs to see him in the exact position, except he at least was humming.

"Pathetic" she muttered softly.

That person on the couch was the person she once thought she could have a future with. Now he was some lazy bum, lethargic, his mind running but his body still. It stung to think how love goggles totally changed a person. Was he always like this? That question she would never be able to answer. That wasn't him. Looking at the clock, it was his turn to do rounds, if he was actually going to do it.

"Are you actually going to do patrols or am I forced to take them over Watson?" she drawled out, not bothering to be polite about it.

Just as his sounds started to form into a long forgotten melody, Ben's mind started processing things around him. Someone...brown eyes...talking...disappointment... Nothing in this shocked him. That is, until he realized his own state of mind, and his eyes flew open.

Stiff red material starred back at him as he faced the cushioned back of the couch. His position wasn't a comfortable one, but he'd rather lie in pain than face the girl behind him. It was one thing, to have to deal with her in public, in front of other students or professors. There, at least, he could pull on his need to hide from everyone to be able to hide from her. But here...in their own dorm...he wasn't safe.

So...the best course of action was to lash out. Even with his drug addled mind, he knew this. Pulling together his thoughts as best he could, his voice was barely more than gravel when he responded.

"I don't know, Holmes, you're the perfect little pureblood. Why don't you go on and show 'em who's boss."

It was stupid, and not worth the ground beneath him, as far as insults went, but it made him feel good. He hated her. No, he loathed her. It was like a solid weight in his chest.

Of course that's what it is. It can't be anything else...I won't let it be anything else.

You Won't See Me (Ben & Tess) : Warning - (Alludes to Drug Use) Empty
PostSubject: Re: You Won't See Me (Ben & Tess) : Warning - (Alludes to Drug Use)    You Won't See Me (Ben & Tess) : Warning - (Alludes to Drug Use) EmptyFri Jun 13, 2014 5:16 pm

Benjamin was quiet after her words. He didn't seem fazed, or maybe he was ignoring her, and it annoyed her all the more. He barely moved, his eyes still facing the couch and did not bother to even look at her. Tess didn't enjoy being ignored, she didn't care for him, but she deserved the attention. In this position, in this haven, they were working partners.

"I don't know, Holmes, you're the perfect little pureblood. Why don't you go on and show 'em who's boss."

The way he said he surname, the hate behind it stung more so than any insult he could throw her way. Tess' eyes hardened, and her hands were placed on her hips, staring straight at the back of his head. If gazes could kill he would be dead. She bit back the bitter taste in her mouth at the thought that she once thought she loved him.

Ben was the first person who she finally felt a connection with. Her heart had once sped up at simply seeing him, the way he smiled at her, the way he held her. The words he told her, how it sounded like he did love her. Now there was no fluttering butterflies anymore, all that was left was disappointment. How stupid could she be? Merlin her mother was right, there was no such thing as love. Everything would die eventually, and as for his love, it was dead.

"Oh you think I'm perfect? Thank you, for telling me something I already knew." she sneered, " I do show them who's boss, Merlin knows you don't do a damn thing as Head Boy. You're a waste of space here Watson"

The pain that he had made her feel in his betrayal long ago began to rise up. He was ugly on the inside, and it made her remember the pain she had felt. Her hands tightened on her hips and her body language changed. She was on the defensive, she was ready to built that wall up again.

Waste of space... The words bounced around his skull. Transforming, mutating, twisting into harsh, cutting edges that pulled him up from the darkness. The potion fought back, burning in his veins in a way that he wasn't accustomed to. As if in response, the barely warm embers within him, the dying fire that fueled his abilities, sparked and started burning again.

Before he even knew what he was doing, he was standing in front of the small girl. He looked like absolute hell, hair sticking up in all directions, his ragged robe and t-shirt damp with sweat. But his eyes were alight in a way they hadn't been for months. They were intense, if not a bit unsettling in their extreme focus.

"You are absolutely correct," his words were soft and precise, everything sound perfectly placed. "I am a waste of space. Breathe. Energy. Thought." There was no sarcasm in his tone, only truth. Supported by years of being passed over. Of being nothing to everyone.

His body was close to Tess's, towering over her but never touching. He didn't observe, he only felt. "If I am such a waste of space, then what is the point of me?"

There was more to that question than he was willing (or capable) of thinking about at the moment. Instead, he glared at Tess, as if she was the source of his utter disgust, instead of himself.

You Won't See Me (Ben & Tess) : Warning - (Alludes to Drug Use) Empty
PostSubject: Re: You Won't See Me (Ben & Tess) : Warning - (Alludes to Drug Use)    You Won't See Me (Ben & Tess) : Warning - (Alludes to Drug Use) EmptySat Jun 14, 2014 2:56 pm

Tess wasn't surprised at the fact that he wasn't responded. He never did respond anymore, it was if something slowed him down. It was pathetic, he was pathetic and it hurt to see him like this. The fact that people thought that they were compatible to work together as Head students was a joke.

Before she could say anything else, he was in front of her and far too closer. It was as if something was turned on in him, a switch, a candle and he invaded her space. Her breath hitched in surprise and her brown eyes widened in surprise as he was too close. He looked down on her; puberty had been kind to him when it came to height, but she forced herself to keep her ground no matter how hard it was with his eyes staring her down.

'Too close, move back' her mind panicked.

But she couldn't, not when she knew that it would mean he won. She had to stand her ground, she wasn't weak anymore. Despite how he intimidated her, he looked different. So unkept, so unlike him. His hair was no longer slicked back, or his curls beautifully framing his pale face like it had long ago. Now it was a mess, his skin sallow his eyes shining all the more with great contrast, more so than before. But his smell, it wasn't what would once make her heart beat faster, it was sweat, and the overpowering perfume of a woman, that had rubbed off on him.

She lifted her head, eyes defiant of him, getting herself ready for his verbal abuse. She was never the recipient of it before, only sweet words had caressed her; now she knew she was his target.

"You are absolutely correct," his words were soft and precise, everything sound perfectly placed. "I am a waste of space. Breathe. Energy. Thought."

Tess prevented herself from wincing at the tone of his words. How many times in her life had she thought about this? She once thought she was below everyone behind her brother, not good enough, but she had learned. She felt for him, at least when he had said his 'thought'; he was so smart, Mycroft would only take few people under his wing, and the fact that he was one was a respectful one. But now, his words held no insinuation of anything else other than truth.

"If I am such a waste of space, then what is the point of me?"

She wasn't sure if he wanted an answer or of he was in even speaking to her. But she felt compelled to tell him something, not a spiteful comment, but enough for him to calm down. There was something wild in his eyes that frightened her a bit, especially in the glare he was giving her.

"I don't know...I don't know you anymore" she whispered softly.

While most of his senses were dull and vague, Ben couldn't help but track the play of emotions across Tess's face, in her eyes. Pity. Hatred. Anger....Fear. The first were nothing he was unaccustomed to, towards himself and towards her. But the last one...the fire in him faltered at that.

As if having its own mind, his left hand reached up to touch a strand of hair falling in front of Tess's shoulder. In the far corners of his mind, he wondered if her hair had always been this soft. Then he was speaking, as if to himself. "Did you ever...?"

The pain of those words, as if from some depth within himself that he could not see, ate away at the burst of energy that had brought him to stand in front of Tess. His whole body ached again, trying to return to the blissful nothingness that the potion was meant to bring. He should be in bed, eyes closed and mind wonderfully adrift. Instead, he was an unwilling victim to the depth of her eyes.

Benjamin was no longer the person she knew; she wouldn't call him Ben. Her Ben wasn't like this, and he stayed as hers because he was a distant memory. In her mind nothing could connect the two, because the man in front of her wasn't him. She didn't dare move, seeing his mind somehow working in front of her. The flecks in his eyes, somehow not as sharp as she once remembered them to be. But he was still beautiful, rough and dirty but beautiful.

Her body shook immediately as his hand leaned forward as he touched her hair. It was much shorter than when she was with him, she had cut it as a sort of comfort. Now they had grown in waves, and different. Because she was different, that's what she told herself.

"Did you ever...?"

She closed her eyes as she heard him talk. His hands on her plus his words made her shiver in a way she hadn't felt in a while. Forcing herself to have some sort of control, she found herself incapable of moving back. Her feet were planted and her lips had parted without her consent. Her eyes opened and looked up at him, their eyes meeting in a way that made her breath hitch.

Had she moved on? By the way her heart was beating so quickly her answer was there. She didn't dare succumb to him, she didn't dare just cling to him and show him exactly how much she missed him. She missed his lips, she missed the way his breath would change when she twisted under him or whispered his name. A flush began to form, but she found her mouth moving before her mind could catch up.

"Move on?" she breathed out, "You've seen to be doing just fine" signaling the cloth on the couch, "good thing we both have."

Avoiding his gaze, not daring to look at him and say the words that followed.

"But..yes. I've moved on and...and I've never been happier"

There was no one. The closest was James and he, he was too perfect and together for her to even find him fitting. She liked men broken, broken like she was, a kindred spirit that knew what it was to be chipped and broken. But she would use James, because she wasn't better than that. Closing her eyes she took a step back, making those bricks build up, and trying to close off whatever was still beating in her.

You Won't See Me (Ben & Tess) : Warning - (Alludes to Drug Use) Empty
PostSubject: Re: You Won't See Me (Ben & Tess) : Warning - (Alludes to Drug Use)    You Won't See Me (Ben & Tess) : Warning - (Alludes to Drug Use) EmptyWed Jun 25, 2014 12:13 am

Move on... That wasn't what he meant at all. Just as his mind had been spiraling downwards in an onslaught of questions about whether she ever really knew him, Ben felt like he'd been hit by a train. He hadn't even fathomed the possibility that she could have moved on to someone else. As soon as the seed was planted, however, he felt a sinking weight in the center of his being.

Her suggestion that he'd moved on with Eris was ridiculous, his hand shooing it away like an annoying fly. The vixen was a distraction at best...a thorn in his side at worst. Most of the time he didn't remember their interactions when he came down from his highs, and she had the sense to not be around when he did.

As his eyes flickered across Tess's face, the drugs threatening to pull him under, her last words seemed to freeze the fire within him.
She's gone... The icy realization floated through his mind, filling up all the corners that held any tiny scrap of hope.

He couldn't bare to look at her anymore. Turning quickly, he moved towards his room, completely disregarding the scrap of material on the couch. Once in the safety of his own room, he leaned back against the door.

She's moved on...she's happy...with...someone else. It didn't fit together, none of it. Like pieces that belonged to completely different puzzles. His body slid down towards the floor as he finally gave in. The world had won and he, Benjamin Watson, had lost. A single tear fell from his otherwise dry eyes as his body slumped to the side, his mind finally giving in to the pull of oblivion.

You Won't See Me (Ben & Tess) : Warning - (Alludes to Drug Use) Empty
PostSubject: Re: You Won't See Me (Ben & Tess) : Warning - (Alludes to Drug Use)    You Won't See Me (Ben & Tess) : Warning - (Alludes to Drug Use) EmptyWed Jun 25, 2014 12:34 am

Tess closed her eyes as soon as he left and felt heart hurt. She placed a hand on her chest and felt herself tearing up. Hadn't she cried enough? 'Not here!/ her mind screamed. She immediately rushed to her room, the idea of rounds forgotten as she found herself slamming the door behind her.

Love was a double-edged sword wasn't it? And despite how many times she told herself she was okay, and that nothing would matter anymore, it came back, stronger than ever. The notion of her being happy was the biggest lie that she had ever told. How can someone be happy when being so utterly alone? Rhian had gone, no Tess had pushed her. Times like these was when her chest was brutally honest as was her brain. She pushed her away and based on the looks she gave Bailey, she had never been happier. As for James, she kept him around as a security blanket, when she needed him he would appear. And if she thought she didn't need him, he'd be around always looking out. Sweet but completely pathetic. And Benjamin, he had ruined what they had.

Maybe if you weren't such a prude and just gave him what he wanted you wouldn't be here wishing he'd be with you. Why you? Why not Eris who gives him everything he could want?'

And yet in these moments her insecurities seeped into her life. She squeezed her chest as silent tears slid down her face. But her insecurities were real, he held things that were Eris'. She was there all the time, and while she didn't know if he sought her out, what mattered was that she was there. She heard things, from his room. It hurt to try and move on.

And had she moved on? She thought she had. But the way he looked at her, the way he...the way he looked like she had broken him made her sob all the more. She covered her mouth as a noise broke through the silence of her room. He looked so defeated, his eyes red, his wall crushed. She had hurt him like she wanted to, but that stung her as well.

She would never be happy, because she was stupid. Because she still longed for the boy across the common room who never managed to let her have her heart. He kept it, he broke it, but she never once could take it back. If this was what love was, then she was only to feel the pain. Tears slid down her face as she curled onto her bed.

Head responsibilities would be forgotten. Everything didn't matter, at the moment all that mattered was her trying desperately to claw for normalcy and for the pain to disappear. For that wall to be built where it had been broken time and time again. The night was spent curled up in bed, her eyes staring at the window, mindlessly, as tears slid down her cheeks.
