Lesson 2- Transforming Stone to Jewels (All Years) Empty
PostSubject: Lesson 2- Transforming Stone to Jewels (All Years)   Lesson 2- Transforming Stone to Jewels (All Years) EmptyFri Jun 06, 2014 7:04 am

Alexander had an exciting lesson for his students. This was transforming stone to jewels, a very well-known Alchemical technique, and a very sought after one. This would be useful, if per chance any of his students found themselves in a tight financial situation in the future. He had decided to include the younger class because he thought it only fair seeing as their last lesson had been theory and history of Alchemy. He sat back in his chair, legs propped up on his desk as he waited for his students to arrive.

Another day and an even brighter smile lit up the Wormwoods features. There was no reason for Victoria's happiness, it was simply a constant in her life. Skipping down the hall, Victoria greeted everyone in her path before finally pushing open the door to alchemy.

"Good morning, professor!" Victoria acknowledged the man, taking up her usual seat at the front and taking out her books. "Nice day, isn't it?" She added, opening up her notebook and writing the date neatly.

Alchemy was Callum's passion. His mother had taught it to him before he began school and he took the class every chance he got. He also excelled at it because it just clicked with his mind. So he was happy to be walking to the class. He entered and saw that only one other student was there.

"Morning Professor," he said as he walked over and took a seat next to Victoria "And good morning Miss Newbury," he smirked a little.

Loathe as he was to admit it, Alchemy was kindasotamaybe growing on Jackson. It was a combination of the teacher being so overly enthusiastic he didn't even realize how he came across mixed with a surprisingly enjoyable first lesson in Prissy Miss Mary's company. Maybe she would be there today too, to device more ways to get into his bed.

Chuckling softly, Jackson walked into class and took his customary place at the back, it seemed he'd managed to make it on time once again, a new record for the boy.

Filled up with caffeine, Mary practically bounced to the Alchemy classroom that day. She had gotten quite a few hours of sleep and had a few cups of coffee for breakfast, so she was full of energy and ready for whatever Professor Hamilton had prepared for them. She was even fully ready to work with Jax again, as for once, she had enough energy to fully deal with his remarks.

"Morning everyone," she greeted everyone cheerfully and waved happily to Victoria as she took her seat. She knew the caffeine would wear off eventually and when it happens, it'll be horrible, but she didn't particularly care at that moment. She'll deal with that when it happens and hopefully, she'll have had another cup of coffee by then.

Estelle was thankful that the alchemy classroom was on the first floor. She didn't exactly know a huge amount on the subject but that is why you went to school right, to learn? She borrowed a book from the library and briefly read over it the night before. It interested her and she may need a profession of sort when she was to finish school. If she actually lived past school. Aside from that, she slipped into the classroom, her eyes waving over the teacher for a moment before sitting down in the back left seat.

Taking out her parchment slowly, she tried not to make a noise. She wrote down on her parchment the lesson and the professor. All she had to do now was wait for instructions. In the mean time, she took out her book and begun reading details about the subject. It couldn't hurt to try, right? After reading a page, she looked up cautiously behind her curtain of hair and found no one looking at her. They looked like older students which made Estelle uncomfortable. Though really, everything did.

Jaden didn't know there was alchemy and when she found out she rushed to the class hoping she wasn't late.. Jaden had heard the professor was very nice and decided to take the class and it was because she needed to keep her grades like Sadie had.

"Sorry I'm late," she replied as she entered the class and took a seat. "I hope I havent missed anything important," she thought then as she took out her books.

Ares didn't know much about this class but that didn't mean he wasn't going to at least give it a try, Ares walked into the classroom and saw that the turnout was pretty good, the Professor was new to Salem so that meant that he could be good and every Student had to give the class a try. Ares took a seat and he waited for the class to begin.

Alexander was pleasantly surprised to see more students turning up to his class. It had been more than his classes the last time. He gave each student a kind smile as they entered.

"Good morning, professor!...Nice day, isn't it?"

"Good morning, Victoria," the man beamed "Yes, the day is wonderful" He nodded to each student as they entered, greeting them appropriately.

"Sorry I'm late,"

"It's alright, you're not that late... Jaden, is it?" He replied to the witch. Once he was sure no other students were coming, he clapped his hands together, more of a habit he'd formed over his lifetime "Right, so there are a few familiar faces, and some not so familiar. For those who don't know me, I'm Professor Hamilton," he introduced himself "Anyway, today I've decided we'll have a practical lesson. The study of Alchemy is known primarily for changing substances into other things. Example, common metals to gold, and in this lesson, ordinary stones to jewels.

"Now, would anyone like to tell me how precious jewels are formed naturally?" he asked the class.

As the teacher began class, greeting everyone amicably, Jackson tried to stifle a groan, wondering how some people had the will to not just get out of bed but be so cheery too.

"A jewel is the crystalined version of minerals," the boy intoned, only half raising his hand. "They form under the earth's crust." It was the most straightforward answer the Nightshade could give without betraying the fact that he had read the chapter on jewel formation two days ago out of sheer boredom.

Estelle looked at the professor while he spoke. He asked a question and the class seemed a bit nervous. She quietly pushed her book to the top of her desk and wrote down his question before writing down what she thought to be the answer.

How are precious jewels formed naturally?

Precious jewels and their natural formation can be found by three general processes.

1. Direct fusion of the substance by the action solely of heat.
2. Dissolution of the substance by the aid of foreign substances at variable temperatures.
3. Bringing together, in the state of vapours, substances destined to become the elements of the stone.

The reason Estelle knew this was because she just finished reading that part in the book. If she was asked another question to go into further details, she most likely could not answer. From here on, she would have to rely on other students' knowledge. Hating to admit that, Estelle put her quill down and read in the silence before a student spoke up. It was not going to be Estelle. She would refuse to. In the mean time, she wrote up the professor's name and lesson.

He listened to the boys answer "Correct, thought lacking a bit of detail. Take five points," he said, beginning to idly walk around the classroom as he explained "Jewels need lots of heat and pressure, and certain minerals to form. And underneath the earth's crust, like Mr Blake here said, provides such perfect conditions," he said. He stopped at the back of the classroom, and a piece of parchment caught his eye. He'd realised the younger girl had written her answer down "And of course, there are other factors like water or vapour bringing them and merging them together," he nodded at her "Five points Miss Lovelace," he said.

He walked to the front of the classroom "Right, it would seem I have spent far too much time explaining. We've run out of time. Don't worry, we'll continue the prac next lesson," he said "Class dismissed."
