Hogwarts, A Future - Rules & Guidelines

Username
Here at HAF, we do not mind if you use middle names and double-barrelled last names. All we ask is that you use a minimum of a first and last name, with appropriate capitalisation. We do not want any characters to have numbers in their name. If you need any help with changing your username, admins are always happy to help with it. If we find anyone not following these guidelines, we will kindly ask you to amend it.

A good example: Jake Newbury

Not acceptable: joshMurray192

Please refrain from direct use of characters from other fandoms. I.e.: naming your character Bilbo Baggins, claiming Martin Freeman as the Face Claim, and creating a back story that is similar to his. This does not allow you the creativity that this site strives for. There are other fandoms for these characters to live in. If you have any questions, please reach out to an admin.

New Students - Children/Students
First thing to do when you join is read through the school histories (found in the sorting threads) to help you make a decision on what you want to do with your character. Each school boasts it's own unique setting, so chose carefully. Once you have done so, we ask each student to create their profile and take the sorting quiz. Admins will sort you as quickly and efficiently as they can, and once they have this can't be changed.

New Students - Adults
Adults are slightly different in that they don't need to chose a school to go to. But, we still expect a profile that details the school you went to and anything you may have picked up from here. References can be made to the houses you were in, and the various activities you participated. You may also wish to outline their results from O.W.L's and N.E.W.T's where necessary.

Multiple Accounts
A maximum of six characters can be made by each handler on the site. If you wish to make a seventh character (and then more) you must reach a one hundred post count with one of your original six to make this possible. We don't wish to discourage multiple characters, merely promote activity with existing characters. It should also be noted that any student characters in the initial six must all have 3 classes to pass to next year in addition to the 100 post count (posts in classes can be counted towards the 100 count).

Signatures & Avatars
Signatures should be kept to the size of 600x250. We also ask that you do not use the scroll option as this considerably slows down the site. Avatars should be no bigger than 100x100. Please note, this site is for people of all ages, so pictures shown in both your signature and avatar should not be sexually explicit. Anyone found to be breaking this rule will have their signature/avatar taken down immediately.

A signature should not hold more than one image at a time, with no more than two lines worth of normal sized text. One spoiler may also be used in the signature where necessary. If you are found to be breaking this rule, we will give you a warning via PM for you to adjust your signature accordingly.

Text within signatures should also be kept to a level for all users.

Threads
HAF is a site that boasts no restrictions on what you can and cannot post within a thread. We merely ask that if you should be writing for specific people or on sensitive topics that you let other people know. To help everyone keep on the same lines, we have compiled a list of warnings for thread titles (below).

No warnings - This means the thread is open to all and you do not need to warn anybody of the content.

Violence - Pretty self explanatory, anything that involves physically hurting somebody should contain this warning.

Anything more than a kiss will no longer be allowed in the main forum. An adult section has now been made, so if you wish for your characters to go further, then please post here. If you are not currently able to see the forum, please contact a member of staff.

Anyone not following these rules shall have their sexually explicit posts taken down without warning.

Substance Abuse - Anything with the mention of drugs or alcohol.

If you wish to keep a threads to certain people, please add this in the title. For example, if I wished to thread with Azalea Harrington I would type a title such as "Just Having Dinner (Jake & Azalea)". This clearly shows I wish for only Azalea to reply. If you wish to make a closed thread, where no one can reply, you use the same idea. "Sneaking Away (Closed)". You can use the same idea for group threads, etc.

It should be noted that both spamming and double posting will not be tolerated at this forum. We also do not encourage one liners as post replies as that gives nothing substantial for the next poster to play with. While we do not want to enforce a minimum word count, we do advice you to keep your posts to at least a solid paragraph of three to four lines or somewhere within the fifty words minimum area if that helps you keep better track.

God-moding
God-moding will also not be tolerated at this site. We accept that sometimes you may wish for a character to do something, but without permission this will result in action being taken by the admins. If the GMing in the thread is on a large scale, but you do have permission, please note this at the end of your post.

Should GM-ing happen three times - with warning from admins - this will result in a ban for the user.

Advertising
HAF is not against anyone sharing sites they have made outside of this one. However, we do ask that it is NOT advertised in the ChatBox. We do allow you to create a thread to promote your site in the OOC area located at the bottom of the site provided that you furnish us with a link to do the same at your site. That way, we can get the word around as well. Live and let live, we say.

Advertising anywhere other than the designated area will result in a warning from the staff, continued offending will result in a ban.

Bullying
Bullying on HAF will be taken seriously by all admins on this page. Anyone found bullying will be contacted immediately. If the bullying continues, the user responsible for it will be banned. Please keep in mind that there are real people behind these role play screen names and real people have very real feelings that can get hurt.

Bullying IN CHARACTER must be discussed with other players before you enforce the storyline.

Inactivity
HAF users should be aware that if they are inactive for four months in real life, then their account will automatically be moved to an inactive usergroup with very limited permissions. No account will be deleted as it keeps for better book keeping but you will need to contact an admin if you wish that account restored. This is overridden if you have left a message with an admin stating a reason for you being inactive.

The inactive policy also applies to positions held by the character (i.e. Teacher, Prefect, Quidditch Player.) If you are not active for one month in real life we will pull you from the position unless we have had contact from you to state a reason to an admin.
