Quidditch at HAF!

Yes folks, you read it right. We tried this once before but due to both time and plot constraints, we had to shelf the idea. However, now we feel the time is ripe to attempt Quidditch once more in the epic tournament featuring...

Hogwarts vs Salem

As with the last time, please sign up here if you wish to participate in the tournament. However, it should be noted that you can also participate at a spectator's capacity if you do not have any characters who are likely to play the sport.

Here are the rules for signing up

1. Only one character per handler may sign up (This means if Josh signs up, Victoria may not)
2. Only student characters may sign up
3. Please sign up with the character from the school you intend to play for (as in, Josh can't play for Salem)
4. Positions are at a first come, first serve basis
5. Everyone signing up should have familiarized themselves with the HAF Quidditch Handbook

Please sign up here with the following form.

Code:
[b]Name:[/b]
[b]Position you'd like:[/b]
[b]A sample of your Quidditch role playing (at least 100 words):[/b] Note, if you already signed up the last time, you may reuse the same rp sample form before.

The games begin on the first of February and last through the month or until the Golden Snitch is caught. Best of luck to both teams. <3

PostSubject: Re: Quidditch at HAF    Quidditch at HAF EmptyFri Jan 10, 2014 4:38 am

Name: Scarlett Waters
Position you'd like: Chaser
A sample of your Quidditch role playing (at least 100 words):

Scarlett intercepted the quaffle and tucked it under her arm, firmly. She gripped her broom tightly with her left hand and quickly and efficiently observed the pitch, to see what was going on. She proceeded to fly, as quick as she could manage with holding onto the quaffle.

She weaved through the players and made sure to keep looking around for possible threats to her, for possible players coming from all directions, also on the look out for bludgers. Wisps of hair that had come out from her ponytail were annoyingly flying into her eyes, but she was used to that (disadvantage of having long hair). She positioned the quaffle so it was ready to be thrown when she thought she was close enough to the hoops and threw it with effort towards them.

Name: Joshua Murray
Position you'd like: Beater
A sample of your Quidditch role playing (at least 100 words):

Josh took up his bat, looking around the grounds at the hundreds of spectators. A cruel grin flashed across his face as he mounted his Firebolt 2. It didn't matter that no one knew his name now, in an hour, maybe two, Josh Murray would be remembered for his talent. People would talk about his blood curdling precision with the Bludgers, because everyone knew that a strangled cry as someone's knee shattered didn't leave your ears too soon.

Position taken in the starting line up, Josh looked at the opponents, readying himself to take on the other Beaters, and trying to find his first target. Someone he could intimidate. Someone powerful enough to change the game. Options were many, but picking the right on was critical.

It was the same before every game, he adjusted his grip on the bat just as the Bludger was released, his position giving him the vantage as he smashed the ball straight towards the Seeker and watching the ball hurtle towards the skinny boy. Yes, this was the sport Josh liked most, because here, pain was legal.

Name: Louise Grey
Position you'd like: Seeker
A sample of your Quidditch role playing (at least 100 words):

A glint of gold! After circling the pitch like a kite The third year dived, rocketing towards the ground and pulling up with only inches to spare. Lesson learned from practice the girl forwent the hat in favour of a tight ponytail, held in place with a few charms. Flattening herself on her firebolt Louise looked like a bullet as she chased down the elusive golden snitch, her hand outstretched, she could feel the little flutter of the wings as well as razor sharp winds cutting into her face and fingers.

She could feel the other team's seeker gaining on her and urged her broom to go just a little faster, willing herself to get there first. The roar of the crowd suddenly became deafening silence, the only sound she could hear was the rushing of blood on her ears and short pants of breath. Just...a...little...closer...

PostSubject: Re: Quidditch at HAF    Quidditch at HAF EmptySat Jan 11, 2014 12:03 am

Name: Rhian Kael
Position you'd like: Chaser
A sample of your Quidditch role playing (at least 100 words):

Rhian flexed her gloved hands around her broomstick. It felt like forever since she'd been atop her old friend, it was like coming home. While her broom and personal pads were a familiar comfort, the faces of her teammates and their opponents were a startling change. She took a calming breath and told herself to simply watch for the colors of the uniforms.

She heard the shrill whistle, signalling the start. As soon as the quaffle was in the air, one of the other team's chasers, grabbed hold and moved towards Rhian's side of the field. Spinning on point, she leaned forward and raced after him, coming up alongside his right. She found the quaffle tucked securely to his side.

Focus! This is what you've trained for. The petite brunette took a deep breath and angled her body towards the other chaser, using her shoulder to slam into him, trying to catch him right in his ribs, just below the arm clutching her goal. The first try only resulted in a slow throb to her shoulder and a firmer grip from her opponent. A quick glance towards the rings told Rhian that she didn't have much time left. Lucky for her, the look also informed her of a bludger headed right towards her.

Quickly tucking her body to her broom, she side rolled towards her opponent, spinning under him, broom and all. The offending bludger slammed right into his knee, spinning him clockwise, forcing him to lose his grip on the ball to stay on his broom. Grinning widely, Rhian snatched at the red beauty as it fell into her hands and turned to race back towards the other end of the field.

Name: Mary McNeely
Position you'd like: Chaser
A sample of your Quidditch role playing (at least 100 words):

Mary was flying up toward the other team's chaser who was carrying the quaffle, when something hit her hard in her right leg. She cried out in pain and almost let go of her broom, but she managed to stay on. Thankfully, the bludger hit her thigh and not her knee. Her leg was throbbing with pain and she made an obscene gesture to the beater who sent the bludger her way. The only response she got was a nasty smirk. A few seconds later, the witch groaned as the commentator's booming voice told her the other team scored ten points.

She watched a chaser from her team take a hold of the quaffle. She also saw the other team's chasers all heading the girl's way. Ignoring the pain in her leg, Mary flew closer to the girl on her team as fast as she could. On her way, she slammed hard into one of the chaser's on the other team, making him almost loose a grip on his broom, which bought them a bit of time. Mary cried out the chaser's name, to let her know she can throw the quaffle to her. The girl seemed to have heard her, as the red ball came flying Mary's way. She caught it, gripped it tightly and directed her broom to the ground. She was flying fast and even though she couldn't see them, she knew the other team's chasers were chasing her. Suddenly, she changed her course, jerking her broom up and flying up, up, up.

For a split second, Mary looked back and grinned when she saw the chasers were now far back. She flew over to the other side of the field, still keeping a tight grip on the quaffle and ignoring the throbbing in her leg.

Name: Humphrey Williams
Position you'd like: Keeper
A sample of your Quidditch role playing (at least 100 words):

Humphrey hovered on the school's broom he was allowed to use when he asked permission. Since he was the keeper, he had a bit of waiting to do. Staying about five to ten feet in front of the hoops, Humphrey moved slightly back and forth to stay alert. One of the things that he had to always remember was to keep his head on a swivel, in a Quidditch game things changed lightning fast and the quaffle could move from end of the pitch to the other in a hurry.

Before too long two chasers were headed towards him, their third trying to get in the way of his team's so the other two would remain unimpeded. They kept passing it back and forth and soon enough they were within shooting distance. One player cocked his arm back and looked like he was about to shoot before passing it to his teammate. The fiery redheaded girl got the quaffle skillfully and shot it towards the right hoop. Making a dive for it, Humphrey barely managed to get his hand on and bring the quaffle into his chest. He then tossed it to his team's star chaser and resumed his position, pleased with the difficult save.

Name: Tess Holmes
Position you'd like: Chaser
A sample of your Quidditch role playing (at least 100 words):

Tess looked down at the scene before her studying what was going on. They were about to start the second half and everyone seemed a bit worst for wear. She herself wasn't the most confident at the moment. Their team were behind by twenty points, something that she knew would anger Josh more than anything. Her hands flexed as she gripped her broom, her back was arched low, knowing she needed to dive to catch the Quaffle and avoid being hit. She knew she wasn't the strongest, nor the heaviest, but she was fluid. She allowed her graceful nature to push through the whole chaos of the game.

Looking to her right she saw the signal of her Captain telling her to go. She gave a brief nod, and as the whistle shrilled through the field, she dove immediately, her eyes locked on the Quaffle that was hers. She wasn't expecting to be shoved out of the way by her opponent and hissed at them despite herself. This was her moment, here she wasn't prissy, or proper, here she was a player, one that would help her team succeed, because failure was never an option. Angling her broom she rotated her shoulders to push the opponent's chaser back and kicked the broom hoping for some leverage. Diving down, she only pulled up as the Quaffle was in sight; wiggling forward on her broom she stretched, her left hand barely grazing the ball until, there! She sighed in relief as she caught one, now came the easy part, the rings. She avoided a few bludgers and went for the center ring. Throwing her arm back, she grunted and threw it, she chanted the mantra, over and over begging it to go in and as it did, a cheer came not only from her mouth but from the crowd as well.

Name: Kaleb Chase
Position you'd like: Beater
A sample of your Quidditch role playing (at least 100 words):

Kaleb was hovering in the air waiting for the game to start, he had his bat in his hand and was prepared to beat the living hell out of the bludger. When the whistle blew, he took off and was riding around, he was keeping his eyes on the bludgers and was making sure that no one on his team got hit. As Kaleb was riding around, he saw the beater from the other team hit the bludger at one of his teammates, Kaleb hurried and got to the ball of death and hit it towards the other team. It knocked the one player to the ground because of where the bludger hit. The front of the broom.

The Belladonna kept his eyes out for the ball he had to hit. Kaleb made sure to keep his tight grip on the bat and a firm hand on the broom to keep him steady. A bludger was coming his way and he hit it and it went towards a girl on the other team. He wasn't really a violent person but what he had to do was good for him.

Name: Diem Malik
Position you'd like: Chaser
A sample of your Quidditch role playing (at least 100 words):

Diem had practiced for months and now here was what she had been waiting for. The first game of the season, oh she was so excited. If only her parents were still alive to see this moment but they were always watching her. The brunette waited for the whistle to blow so the game could start. Diem was so pumped that no one could bring her down. Flying practice was a great help along with team practice. The whistle blew and she was off. The brunette was flying around the pitch trying to catch the quaffle when finally she had it thrown to her and she rode fast away from the other team. Due to her being smaller and petite, she was able to ride faster then the other team, an advantage she would happily use. Diem got to the hoops that the keeper was guarding and she threw the quaffle through and watched it go in.

Diem heard the crowd cheering for her and she went back to playing. She would not get an ego while playing. She needed to stay focused on the task at hand.

Which week of June will you be most available in, 2nd, 3rd or 4th: 4th
A sample of your Quidditch role playing (at least 100 words):

Sadie was nervous; and it was because it was her first quidditch match. But Jake told her before that everything was going to be fine. That she was a natural chaser so this helped her a lot. The captain was giving a small talk before the game. Sadie had spent a lot of the time with the people who were chasers. And that was because she wanted to get to know her team better. She then took a deep breath and walked out with her broom. Looking around she then seen the Wormwood cheering. Today they would be facing off with the nightshade house. And Sadie hoped that she could help her house get this win.

Position you'd like:Keeper (and Captain, if that is allowed)
A sample of your Quidditch role playing (at least 100 words): Note, if you already signed up the last time, you may reuse the same rp sample form before.

David squinted as he walked onto the field, his firebolt in hand. the conditions were.. favorable, at best. he had played games in all kinds of weather, but this was the first one he had played WITH Slytherin's. Josh was an amazing flier, but hated his guts, and probably wouldn't listen to anything David said. Josh would be used to making his own decisions, and David his. it would be, difficult.

David took off into the sky. giving the Salem Captain and handshake, then when the whistle blew, he took off for hoops. he prayed that the chasers would keep the quaffle AWAY from him. he was quick, and hoped that would help him be an okay keeper, but he was more a chaser or seeker, he only filled this position because they needed one.

his prayers were not answered, a Salem chaser came zooming towards him, everything in David urged him to intercept, but that was not what a Keeper did. he waited, trying to read the chasers movements. he imagined being the chaser. David was in front of the middle hoop, so the chaser would go left, then shoot right. when the chaser moves towards the left, David zoomed towards the right, catching the quaffle.

David smiled to himself, and chucked it to Tess. one down, a lot more to go.

Name: Carmen Gonzales
Position you'd like: Seeker
A sample of your Quidditch role playing (at least 100 words):
Kicking off from the ground, Carmen barely heard the whistle signalling the start of the game blow as she flew upwards. Up above the crowd, above the chasers trying to get the quaffle, above the beaters with heavy bats. This was Carmen's favourite thing about Quidditch, being left alone to look for the small golden ball in peace.

Carmen has always been a good enough flayer and now with Jake's help in lesson was getting better everyday. The girl had thought about applying to the Nightshades Quidditch team but wasn't sure if they would accapet and outsider from Lugarmago. But today the blonde witch wasn't worried about anything.

Because today it was just her and her broom, and the snitch. And she knew she was going to catch it.

Zayne cracked his knuckles as he mounted his broom and flew up into his starting position. Within a few minutes the game going like crazy. He dodged someone chasing a snitch and almost got hit by a bludger. Swinging his bat the bludger flung back at who hit towards him. He smiled when it knocked off balance and they went spiraling downward.

Flying across the field he spotted another player about ready to get one to the back and zooming over her swung it away; the attack only a foot away from his teammate. After hollering welcome to the other player he flew into the fray once again.

Name: Joe Astrid
Position you'd like: Beater
A sample of your Quidditch role playing (at least 100 words): That bloody girl Joe thought as he regripped his broom. It was her fault he had gotten into the sport, her fault his heart was beating out of his chest at the prospect of having people watch him play. Adrenaline coursed through his body as he tried to clear his head, keeping a firm grip on his beater's bat. The 'working out' think actually hadn't been a total waste of time.

The bludgers were released and without another thought, Joe flew, straight towards one of the death-balls as he gave it a firm hit towards a chaser, a satisfying jolt of something all too similar to electricity flying down his arm at the impact. Joe wasn't the type to cause deliberate harm, but it was different on a Quidditch Pitch. But then again, so was he.

He kept a watchful eye out for the two bludgers and making sure to stay within range of the opponent's seeker, ready to strike.
